saying no: forced politeness, therapy language, berlin guilt...

in this episode we talk about saying no, which turns out to be connected to… literally everything. a quick sneak peek: hierarchy in indonesia, 'lets see tomorrow', 'inshallah', the fear of being seen as arrogant, elders deciding for u, family as an institution of care, the politeness of the colonised, saying no without guilt, growing up poor and internalised shame, 'all feelings are valid', disappointing people, therapy language, 'not doing enough', trusting ur gut, chicken, and more! ALSO, we introduce a new trauma quota: 1 trauma per episode per person AND we gave small talk a try upon request (this part is not available on youtube, only on podcast apps:) 📻 woke-ish talk we’re Dira & Zilu 🫰🏽 we both have a distant past as media producers back when we were younger: Dira as MTV host and radio announcer in Indonesia, and Zilu as a youth cultural journalist in Nicaragua. life took us in many directions before crossing paths in Berlin (divine timing✨, as we say) and we’ve now decided to go back to cultural production, now on our own terms, with this radio show in which we talk about hot and silly stuff, with heart and in style* 📺 fagomedia we’re a gang of queer and/or racialised producers reimagining radio, television & printed media. we operate from berlin and are plotting ways to build creative and economic autonomy so that we can reclaim a self-determined representation in media and history

have u eaten? our relationship with food, cooking far from home & eurocentric table 'manners'

this episode was supposed to be about intersectional drama but things got a bit heavy, so we went back to our default topic: food. we talk about eurocentric etiquette and 'manners' and the culture around food that we have back home. we also talk about eating with our hands, cooking while being far from home, the rice-and-beans spectrum (you’ll see), and why “have you eaten?” is how we say i love you. plus, our favourite german food (yes, u read that right:) as always, no conclusions, just two hungry babes talking. go eat something! outfits by our friend Cosmo Bauer https://www.instagram.com/cosmobauer ♡ we’re starting from scratch after meta’s unjustified suspension of our accounts!please follow us at: https://www.instagram.com/fagomedia https://www.instagram.com/cnfsng.tms https://www.instagram.com/dirandrakala https://www.instagram.com/zillllllu 📻 woke-ish talkwe’re Dira & Zilu 🫰🏽 we both have a distant past as media producers back when we were younger: Dira as MTV host and radio announcer in Indonesia, and Zilu as a youth cultural journalist in Nicaragua. life took us in many directions before crossing paths in Berlin (divine timing✨, as we say) and we’ve now decided to go back to cultural production, now on our own terms, with this radio show in which we talk about hot and silly stuff, with heart and in style* 📺 fagomediawe’re a gang of queer and/or racialised producers reimagining radio, television & printed media. we operate from berlin and are plotting ways to build creative and economic autonomy so that we can reclaim a self-determined representation in media and history

terminology check 2: global majority, seabling, swana, f-words, babe

terminology check, part two! language keeps moving, and in this episode we try to catch up with it (a little bit). we sit with a few new-ish terms: global majority, SEAblings, SWANA, and yes, the f word (chill, it’s about us;). we talk about where they came from, how they land on us, and how words shape the way we see saw and see ourselves. we also get into reclaiming slurs, a little indonesian queer grammar lesson from Dira, and why EVERYONE is a ‘babe’ for us. as always, no conclusions, just a reminder to play with words and not take them too seriously :) we’re currently fighting meta’s unjustified suspension of our accounts! please follow us at https://www.instagram.com/fagomedianet https://www.instagram.com/cnfsng.tms https://www.instagram.com/dirandrakala https://www.instagram.com/zillllllu 📻 woke-ish talk we're Dira & Zilu 🫰🏽 we both have a distant past as media producers back when we were younger: Dira as MTV host and radio announcer in Indonesia, and Zilu as a youth cultural journalist in Nicaragua. life took us in many directions before crossing paths in Berlin (divine timing✨, as we say) and we've now decided to go back to cultural production, now in our own terms, with this radio show in which talk about hot and silly stuff, with heart and in style* 📺 fagomedia we’re a gang of queer and/or racialised producers reimagining radio, television & printed media. we operate from berlin and are plotting ways to build creative and economic autonomy so that we can reclaim a self-determined representation in media and history

we got suspended: meta's modus operandi, our divine timing & next steps

our instagram accounts got suspended by meta with no reason given nor a real opportunity to appeal. in this episode we tell u how that went for us and what we’re doing to try to get them back. instead of forcing a comeback at all costs, we decided to take it slow and take the opportunity to work on printed media project we’ve been cooking in the background. it’s also summer! so we’ll keep it analog for now, enjoy the sun and go with the flow, but this is for sure not the last time u’ll hear from us! we’ll be back stronger sometime at the end of the summer. stay tuned!- hosted by dira & fran- edit by fran- equipment & productionimaginary box https://www.instagram.com/imgnrybx 📻 about woke-ish talk- hiii we're Dira & Fran 🫰🏽 we both have a distant past as media producers back when we were younger: Dira as MTV host and radio announcer in Indonesia, and Fran as a youth cultural journalist in Nicaragua. life took us in many directions before crossing paths in Berlin (divine timing✨, as we say) and we've now decided to go back to cultural production, now in our own terms, with this radio show in which talk about hot and silly stuff, with heart and in style* - follow along!📺 about imaginary box- as of now, imaginary box is a production platform that facilitates the exchange of information, media-making resources, equipment and technical skills among trans and/or racialised cultural producers, supporting our efforts to build creative and economic autonomy so that we can reclaim self-determined representation in media and history#berlin #queer #trans #politics #media

blowing up online: hot takes culture, internet battles & laughing through it

this is the first episode we recorded after blowing up! in it we unpack how that went from our side and lay out some of our thoughts around the space we are co-creating together with u all :) we also get into what it feels like to create for ourselves now that some people are watching and reflect on humor, why we laugh at heavy things, where that comes from and the transformative power we see in it. anddd we also read some of ur comments. the cute AND the unhinged ones ^^ fran's note: we had technical issues with the audio on this episode! we hope u enjoy it regardless :3 - hosted by dira https://www.instagram.com/dirandrakala fran https://www.instagram.com/ilzilu - edit froilán urzagasti https://www.instagram.com/jaguai95/ - equipment & production imaginary box https://www.instagram.com/imgnrybx 📻 about woke-ish talk- hiii we're Dira & Fran 🫰🏽 we both have a distant past as media producers back when we were younger: Dira as MTV host and radio announcer in Indonesia, and Fran as a youth cultural journalist in Nicaragua. life took us in many directions before crossing paths in Berlin (divine timing✨, as we say) and we've now decided to go back to cultural production, now in our own terms, with this radio show in which talk about hot and silly stuff, with heart and in style* - follow along! 📺 about imaginary box- as of now, imaginary box is a production platform that facilitates the exchange of information, media-making resources, equipment and technical skills among trans and/or racialised cultural producers, supporting our efforts to build creative and economic autonomy so that we can reclaim self-determined representation in media and history#berlin #queer #trans #politics #media

berlin timelines: risa/döner prices, tegel nostalgia & cacao ceremonies(?)

this episode was recorded before blowing up, so some of our recent reflexions about our approach and platform weren’t there yet. that being said, come laugh with us as we try to talk about not-so-heavy-topics (spoiler alert: we failed!) - we recalled our sweet and sour first time memories in Berlin: ordering our first döner (auf deutsch!), Fran’s first ever ‘cacao ceremony’ and Dira’s kink discovery after their okcupid first date! andddd yes, we unwillingly ended up talking about unpleasant but hilarious experiences with some political depth of course! it definitely helped us to feel lighter despite the heaviness of living in berlin, so enjoy (: - hosted by dira @dirandrakala & fran @ilzilu - equipment & production @imgnrybx | 📻 about woke-ish talk - hiii we're Dira & Fran 🫰🏽 we both have a distant past as media producers back when we were younger: Dira as MTV host and radio announcer in Indonesia, and Fran as a youth cultural journalist in Nicaragua. life took us in many directions before crossing paths in Berlin (divine timing✨, as we say) and we've now decided to go back to cultural production, now in our own terms, with this radio show in which talk about hot and silly stuff, with heart and in style* - follow along! | 📺 about imaginary box - as of now, imaginary box is a production platform that facilitates the exchange of information, media-making resources, equipment and technical skills among trans and/or racialised cultural producers, supporting our efforts to build creative and economic autonomy so that we can reclaim self-determined representation in media and history#berin #queer #trans #politics #gender

Dira found transitioning is like being in a state of lost and found. Fran never felt they transition at all. we also acknowledge that sitting next to trans joy, there’s trans grief because in order for us to be here, we needed to loose parts of ourselves, as well as relationships and loves. we are glad you are here with us, thank you for listening to and witnessing our stories💽 some fancy texts about ourselvesDirandra Sandyakala (all pronouns/dia) is an Indonesian educator and performance artist based in Berlin.
