Romans 7:14–25 — The Answer Is Jesus Christ

Romans 7:14–25 — The Answer Is Jesus Christ Phrase By Phrase with Pastor Rick Episode 22 Have you ever known what was right, wanted to do what was right, yet still found yourself struggling against sin's pull? In this episode of Phrase By Phrase with Pastor Rick, Pastor Rick continues our journey through the Book of Romans as we dive into Romans 7:14–25, one of the most well-known and often debated passages in Paul’s letter. Pastor Rick takes us phrase by phrase through Paul’s words to help us understand the purpose of God’s law. The law is not evil—it is holy and good. It reveals the character of God while also revealing something about us: we cannot make ourselves righteous through our own efforts. The law can expose the problem, but it cannot cure it. Like an X-ray revealing a broken bone, God’s law shows us our sinful condition and our desperate need for a Savior. That brings us to the powerful cry: “Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from the body of this death?” And then comes the answer: “I thank God through Jesus Christ, our Lord!” Religion cannot rescue us. Good works cannot rescue us. Trying harder cannot rescue us. Jesus Christ is our rescue. And for those in Christ, we no longer have to depend on our own strength. Through the Holy Spirit, we can learn to walk in the freedom, victory, and new identity God has given us. Join Pastor Rick as we continue going Phrase By Phrase through Romans and prepare to enter the incredible truths of Romans Chapter 8. The law reveals our need. Faith points us to the answer. And the answer is Jesus Christ. #PhraseByPhrase #PastorRick #Romans7 #BookOfRomans #JesusChrist #JustificationByFaith #FaithInJesus #HolySpirit #ChristianLiving #BibleStudy #WordOfGod #WalkInTheSpirit #FreedomInChrist #RelevanceForToday

Special Sermon Episode / Jesus in the Storm

Special Sermon Episode / Jesus in the Storm Episode 21 What happens when you’re following Jesus, doing what He told you to do, and still find yourself right in the middle of a storm? In this powerful message, Pastor Rick Kavanaugh takes us to the Sea of Galilee and the incredible account of Jesus walking on the water. The disciples weren’t in the storm because they had disobeyed Jesus—they were there because Jesus had sent them across the sea. Through this message, Pastor Rick reminds us that following Christ does not guarantee smooth sailing. Sometimes God allows storms into our lives to redirect our focus, strengthen our faith, and teach us to depend completely on Him. But here is the encouragement: Jesus sees us in the storm. He sees the struggle. He sees the tears. He knows the fear. He knows when we’re exhausted from rowing against the wind. And He comes to us. When Jesus walked across the water toward His disciples, He demonstrated that the very thing threatening them was already under His feet. The storm was not beyond His authority, and it could not prevent Him from reaching those He loved. Sometimes the greatest miracle isn’t Jesus removing the storm—it’s discovering His presence with us in the middle of it. If you’re facing a physical, emotional, relational, spiritual, financial, or personal storm today, this message will encourage you to keep your eyes on Jesus instead of the waves and remember His words: “Take courage. It is I. Don’t be afraid.” You were never meant to walk through the storms of life alone. Jesus is with you, and God has also given us the Body of Christ so that we can pray for, encourage, and strengthen one another. The storm may still be raging, but the King is in the boat. #PastorRickKavanaugh #JesusInTheStorm #FaithInTheStorm #KeepYourEyesOnJesus #TrustGod #JesusChrist #ChristianEncouragement #FaithOverFear #BodyOfChrist #RelevanceForToday

The Law That Kills: Unmasking Sin | Romans 7:7-13

The Law That Kills: Unmasking Sin in Romans 7:7-13 Episode 20 In this episode, we dive deep into one of the most honest and sobering passages in the Apostle Paul’s letter to the Romans. Paul asks a crucial question: “Is the law sin?” and then walks us through a powerful personal testimony about how God’s holy law doesn’t create sin — it exposes it. Through vivid illustrations like “I would not have known what sin was had it not been for the law,” Paul reveals how the commandment that promised life actually brought death. We explore the deceptive power of sin, the internal war between desire and obedience, and why the law, though good and spiritual, ultimately cannot save us. This passage is essential for understanding the gospel: the law is perfect, but we are not. Join us as we unpack the tension between the goodness of God’s commands and the reality of human sinfulness — and why this leads us straight to our need for grace in Christ. Perfect for anyone wrestling with guilt, legalism, spiritual growth, or simply wanting to understand the relationship between law and grace.

Dead to Sin, Alive to God: Freedom Under Grace | Romans 6:15–7:6

Dead to Sin, Alive to God: Freedom Under Grace | Romans 6:15–7:6 Episode 19 In this powerful episode, we continue our study through the book of Romans by unpacking Romans 6:15 through 7:6. Paul tackles two vital questions every believer faces: If we’re under grace and not under law, does that mean we can keep sinning? What does it actually mean to be “dead to the law” so we can live for God? Through the powerful illustrations of slavery and marriage, the Apostle Paul shows us how our old identity in Adam has been broken by the cross. We are now united with Christ in His death and resurrection — set free from sin’s mastery and empowered to walk in newness of life by the Holy Spirit. This passage is a game-changer for understanding grace, sanctification, and our new identity in Christ. Whether you’re wrestling with sin, legalism, or simply longing to walk more freely with God, this episode will encourage and challenge you.

Don’t Let Sin Reign: Living Free in Your Mortal Body | Romans 6:12-14

Don’t Let Sin Reign: Living Free in Your Mortal Body | Romans 6:12-14 Episode 18 In this powerful episode, we dive into the heart of Romans 6:12-14, where the Apostle Paul moves from theology to everyday obedience. After explaining our union with Christ—crucified, buried, and raised with Him—Paul gives us clear, practical commands: stop letting sin reign in your mortal body and start presenting your whole self to God as alive from the dead. You’ll discover what it really means for sin to “reign,” how it gains power through small surrenders and misplaced desires, and the four patterns that show when a believer has allowed the old master back on the throne. We explore the battle in our everyday members—eyes, tongue, hands, mind, and habits—and how to replace old patterns with daily, faith-filled surrender. Most importantly, we stand on the triumphant promise of verse 14: “Sin shall not be master over you, for you are not under law but under grace.” This isn’t about trying harder in your own strength or despairing over weakness. It’s about reckoning who you really are in Christ and yielding to the transforming power of grace. Whether you’re fighting habitual sin, battling discouragement, or simply longing to walk in greater freedom, this episode will encourage and equip you to live as a resurrected saint in a mortal body—free, fruitful, and fully God’s.
