Yet across Victoria, BC and beyond, youth are turning concern into action, from creating space for expression through performative and visual arts to nourishing community by providing access to locally-grown food. These changemakers remind us of the many ways climate shapes our past, present, and future.     Meet Carlos Sevilla, a PhD candidate in Applied Mathematics at the University of Victoria. Carlos takes complex scientific ideas and turns them into almost poetic explanations of why and how clouds form, and what that means for understanding bigger climate patterns.     Join us as we sit down with Moronke Harris (aka The Imaginative Scientist!): ocean explorer, science communicator, and expert on deep-sea hydrothermal vents. Moronke shares her path in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics), from how she found her footing as an early-career marine scientist, to how she ended up on an expedition to Antarctica, where she'll spend 24 days doing ocean research and seeing the effects of climate change in some of our most vulnerable ecosystems.

    Building Community is a Climate Solution

    Today we head over to chat with Paige Hunter, 2023 Top 25 Environmentalists Under 25 award winner and Youth Environmental Changemakers Summit delegate with The Starfish Canada. Paige is now building community as Co-Lead at Sword Fern Collective, a Vancouver-based group bridging arts, culture, and climate action. She shares her journey as a youth climate advocate, from attending a UN Climate Change Conference as a Youth Delegate, to using poetry and choir to show that everyday people already care about the changing climate.

    What's growing on (at an urban farm)?

    Today we get to hang out with Liam Simcic and Alistair Howes from FED Urban Agriculture, a Victoria-based charity linking community with local food. From rooftop gardens to pollinator habitats, and even biking produce to restaurants, FED wants folks to have access to affordable, ethically grown goods. Join us at the farm for a chat on what mindful growing looks like and how we can form a deeper connection with the food that fills our plates.

    To kick off the season, we meet Sabrina Guzman Skotnitsky, a climate justice advocate, artist, and researcher. From joining the movement at 15 to leading Creating Climate Resilience art workshops using collage and other mediums to explore emotion, Sabrina shares how creativity fuels resilience. Together, we talk messy hope, climate justice, and what it means to imagine a better future.
