In The Rising Tide

Alex Leff

This is a remarkable — and overwhelming — time to be alive. Everywhere you look, people are facing crises: climate change, social upheaval, mental health challenges, and more. It can feel impossible for one person to make a difference, and that sense of isolation is something many of us share. In this miniseries from the Post Carbon Institute, in collaboration with the Omega Resilience Awards, we meet five individuals from Morocco, the Philippines, India, Chile, and Uganda. Each has responded to the challenges in their communities in deeply creative and unique ways — from empowering local farmers and building resilient food systems, to using storytelling and narrative therapy to heal individuals and strengthen community bonds. These stories reveal different faces of the polycrisis, but together they show a universal truth: meaningful action is possible, even in the face of overwhelming problems. The series is an invitation to witness their courage, be inspired by their ingenuity, and consider the ways we might bring our own skills and gifts to our communities.
