Treasure Maddox: Cowboy Hats, Auberge & The New Texas

Send us Fan Mail What happens when Texas heritage meets global luxury? For Treasure Maddox Hannah, the answer begins with a cowboy hat. A cowboy hat can carry the weight of Texas history while pointing toward its future. Treasure grew up in the Fort Worth Stockyards, watching her parents, Keith and Susan Maddox, build American Hat Company and The Best Hat Store into enduring parts of Texas’s Western culture and global hat industry. Her father, the late rodeo legend Keith Maddox, also created Positive Times +X, a philosophy built around optimism, possibility and forward momentum. That idea became part of the family legacy and a way of looking at what comes next. In this episode of FRONT OF BOOK TEXAS, host Kristie Ramirez sits down with Treasure for a conversation about Texas legacy, Western fashion, cowboy hat culture, global luxury and the evolution of Texas itself. Treasure takes us inside the craft and etiquette of choosing, shaping and wearing a cowboy hat, including the differences between straw and felt and why the right hat is about far more than what you put on your head. Then her story takes us beyond the Stockyards. From rodeo and Western heritage to New York fashion and her experience with Jimmy Choo and Mackage, Treasure developed a global perspective on fashion, luxury and brand storytelling. Today, she brings that perspective home as Area Director of Marketing for Auberge Collection, helping shape the brand strategy behind Bowie House in Fort Worth and the highly anticipated The Knox in Dallas, opening in fall 2026. Together, Kristie and Treasure explore why Texas hotels are becoming more than places to stay. They are becoming cultural destinations for locals and travelers alike, reflecting the character, history and ambition of the cities around them. We also talk about Treasure’s Vogue-featured wedding and three very intentional rules she chose for the celebration: no flowers, no monogram and no cake. It is a perfect reflection of her approach to tradition: know what matters, understand where it came from, and then make it your own. At its heart, this is a conversation about legacy without living in the past. It is about knowing who you are, understanding the value of where you come from, and having the confidence to evolve tradition rather than simply preserve it. From the Fort Worth Stockyards to New York fashion, from American Hat Company to Jimmy Choo, and from Western heritage to global luxury hospitality, Treasure Maddox Hannah represents a Texas that is deeply rooted, constantly evolving and increasingly connected to the world. Texas is no longer simply a place people visit. It is a place the world is watching. 🎙️ Listen to FRONT OF BOOK TEXAS with Treasure Maddox Hannah. Send us Fan Mail He turned a midnight idea into a business trusted by designers, architects, and collectors in 40+ countries, growing what his dad started 50 years before. Today his studio sources sustainable, luxury hides in France, has them tanned in Italy, then hand assembles every piece in Austin into custom rugs and wall art for some of the most discerning names in interior design. We go behind the scenes of what it actually takes to scale highly customized luxury design without losing the craftsmanship, creativity, and soul of the medium. In this conversation, Kyle unpacks: • How lessons from his early career shaped his work ethic, leadership, and approach to business  • The origin of Kyle Bunting’s signature hide rugs and wall coverings  • Why designer collaboration is at the heart of the brand  • How the studio manages everything from rush projects to commissions that take years  • What Kyle means by “need time pricing” and how it changes the conversation around custom work  • How pricing works in custom rugs, including square footage, materials, complexity, and craftsmanship  • The evolution from high-end residential interiors into hospitality, retail, and workplace installations  • How sustainable French hides are sourced, tanned in northern Italy, and transformed into finished pieces in Austin  • Why using hides as a byproduct can be part of a more thoughtful approach to sustainable luxury design  • The story behind a quilt-inspired collection created with Kyle’s mother, Peggy Bunting, and what makes family collaborations work  • Austin studio culture, the importance of showing clients the process, and what happens inside the workshop  • Kyle’s candid perspective on AI and how it could help creative businesses manage massive asset libraries and reduce administrative work This is a conversation about much more than rugs. It’s about craftsmanship, entrepreneurship, sustainable design, creative collaboration, family, leadership, and the challenge of scaling a highly personal, made-to-order business while protecting the quality that made it successful in the first place. Texas Food Culture: Michelin, Food Trucks, Hidden Gems & The Future of Texas Dining | Courtney E. Smith

Send us Fan Mail Are restaurant influencers changing where Texans eat? Host Kristie Ramirez explores the future of Texas food media, restaurant culture, and the forces shaping dining across the Lone Star State. Influencers can fill a dining room overnight, but can they earn lasting trust? In this episode, Kristie Ramirez and food journalist Courtney E. Smith unpack the changing relationship between restaurant influencers, traditional food journalism, and the business of dining in Texas. They explore why restaurants increasingly value measurable results from social media while editorial coverage continues to shape long term reputation, industry recognition, and consumer confidence. The conversation travels beyond headlines and into the restaurants that define Texas. Courtney shares the story of Jerry’s Cafe in Onalaska near Lake Livingston, where honey yeast rolls, purple hull peas, and legendary chicken fried steak have made the restaurant a destination worth the drive. It is a reminder that some of the state’s most memorable meals are still found far from the major cities. Kristie and Courtney also examine the biggest food trends shaping Texas today, including the growing appreciation for Indigenous cuisine, changing dining habits driven by rising food costs, and the shift toward smaller shared plates. They discuss how restaurants are balancing tradition, sustainability, and changing consumer expectations while preserving the stories behind the food. The episode also explores what diners should pay attention to beyond the menu. Who owns the restaurant? How are employees treated? Are businesses investing in their communities? The conversation highlights why supporting independent restaurants and understanding where your dollars go has become part of the modern dining experience. Plus, learn why food truck regulations still vary across Texas, how statewide licensing has changed opportunities for entrepreneurs, and why food trucks remain one of the most important entry points into the restaurant industry.
