Common Ground: Jack Cressend, Knights Knation

Just because we compete doesn't mean we don't respect each other. In episode two of the Common Ground series, Brian Dempsey of Power Baseball sits down with Jack Cressend of Knights Nation to show players and families that travel baseball programs can compete hard and still collaborate. Jack pitched in the big leagues. He has spent about 15 years in Major League Baseball and is the National Pitching Cross Checker for the Dodgers. He also has two sons who are both pitchers. That gives him a view of the game as a player, a scout, and a parent. In this conversation: • Competitors who respect and collaborate with each other • Honesty and transparency in travel baseball, including the tough conversations • Opportunity vs. responsibility • Showcase overload and performance anxiety • Playing baseball vs. doing baseball • Social media clips vs. real results on the field • Agents and advisors, and when they matter • Getting ready in the bullpen • Being a competitor, and why technology can't measure it We'd love your feedback, good, bad or different. Common Ground: Jim Osting, Ostingers Baseball

Common Ground Series What happens when two competing travel baseball organizations realize they have more in common than what separates them? On this episode of Common Ground, a series within the More For Most Podcast, we're joined by Jim Osting, former Major League Baseball player and founder of Ostingers Baseball, one of Florida's most respected travel baseball organizations. With over a decade of friendship and five years of intentional collaboration between Power Baseball and Ostingers, we pull back the curtain on a relationship that challenges the perception that competing organizations can't work together. Despite operating under different business models, both organizations share a commitment to quality over quantity, honesty, transparency, and creating meaningful opportunities for their players. With college placement rates of 93% for Ostingers and 80% for Power Baseball, we discuss the philosophies and relationships behind those results. We explore the advantages and challenges of different organizational models, the realities of college recruiting, managing family expectations, and why trusting experienced guidance can make the recruiting journey less stressful and more rewarding. We also discuss something families rarely see: competing organizations collaborating behind the scenes, sharing college coaching relationships, scheduling games to reduce travel expenses, and even recommending players to one another when it's in their best interest. Different organizations. Different approaches. Shared values. Interested in providing feedback to either org on this episode? info@powerbsb.comjim@ostingbaseball.com

Your Expectations Might Be Killing Your Opportunities

How badly do you really want to play college baseball? Every year, talented high school players limit their recruiting opportunities before the process even begins. Whether it's refusing to leave their home state, focusing exclusively on Division I programs, or overlooking schools they've never heard of, too many players are eliminating opportunities that could allow them to continue playing the game they love. In this episode of the More For Most Podcast, Brian Dempsey challenges some of the most common misconceptions surrounding college baseball recruiting and explains why players and families need to rethink their approach. With the transfer portal dramatically changing the recruiting landscape, being good enough to play at a certain level doesn't necessarily mean you're recruitable at that level coming out of high school. From understanding the difference between expectations and standards to recognizing that your dream opportunity might exist at a school you've never heard of, this episode offers a perspective shift for players and parents navigating today's recruiting environment. The bottom line: If playing college baseball is truly your goal, stop focusing on where you think you should play and start understanding where your opportunities actually exist. Less limitations. More opportunities. More For Most.

More For Most: Defining the Initiative

If you look at the landscape of youth sports today, the conversation is heavily dominated by the top 1%—the Division I commits and draft prospects. While those milestone achievements are incredible and deserve to be celebrated, the nature of social media often creates a distorted reality. The cold, hard fact is that the overwhelming majority of amateur athletes will not play at that specific level. In this episode, we explain how that hyper-focus can unintentionally leave the other 99% of families feeling as if their journey is a compromise. When in reality, playing college sports at any level is a profound honor that builds the lifelong relationships, resilience, and teamwork necessary to advance young athletes as people and working professionals. Using the iconic, full-menu framework of Atlanta’s Marietta Diner, Brian defines the core philosophy behind the More For Most initiative that Power Baseball was built on. He breaks down how Power Baseball intentionally acts as a high-level recruiting consultancy designed to provide equal advocacy, transparency, and resources for the entire roster—ensuring that the late bloomers, grinders, and pure baseball players find their perfect home at the DII, DIII, NAIA, or JUCO levels.
