JOOSE is one of the most energetic and enthralling entertainers in NC (and beyond). Today he comes into the studio to talk about ONYX, his 5 year old son who just passed from brain cancer, and how he is celebrating him with his music community in Durham / the Triangle area by bringing 7 Durham venues and 30+ artists together Friday 10.30 for a FREE city wide festival. Its an incredible undertaking for some incredible humans. We'll see you out there. In this episode we dig deep into the incredible musical written by Carly Campbell and performed / edited / curated / costumed and more by so many folks in the overarching Durham Queer Community. This production has been in the works for over a decade and sold out its week long run at the Fruit in just a few days. We need more art that focuses on mental health and tells the story of how the system will always fail us and that we keep each other safe.

Ugh - our very own perfect pisces queen Stormie Daie joins us remote (b/c she was organizing at the public library in reaction to a "federal action and executive orders that reject “illegal” diversity, equity and inclusion actions in the workplace." This included unshelving books / removing the name change clinic and so much more. Stormie is an activist, a brilliant performer, an ecologist and a bleeding heart for queer youth. She works tirelessly to bring drag and queer youth into the spotlight. She talks growing up queer and Black in the south, finding community in unlikely places and how much she loves this city. Vera has helped PRISM launch its amazing interface that assists venues with booking / holds / confirms / templates / offers / settlements (its quite amazing), works with Venue Pilot which is a ticketing platform specifically designed as a ticketing and scheduling tool for smaller venues and is run by gold star humans, and currently books at Rubies - our local small cap venue in Downtown Durham. She’s a badass, talks being queer in the industry, and how important working together in the local music community is. What a freaking pleasure.

Gem started THE CONJURE, a dance party centered around queer BIPOC femmes (+) w/ FEMITHEFEMME almost 10 years ago and it is a thriving space. She talks those beginnings, Comfrey Films, the importance of space creators and takers, paying artists, why you shouldn't request a song from a DJ that isn't asking for it and her a few of her fave songs rn.
