Travel Create Repeat

Roxanne Patruznick

Artist and nomad Roxanne Patruznick interviews international artists, writers, musicians and more about travel and creativity. My intention with the podcast is to highlight other creative people who are also connected to travel in some way. I'll have conversations with fellow visual artists, writers, musicians, dancers, film makers, actors, chefs, meditators and anyone else creating something. Many of the people I talk with work across multiple creative mediums. I’m interested in how travel has shaped my creative friends, how travel inspired their work and if they have travel stories. I am also exploring a deep dive into what Travel is and what Creativity is. These are solo podcast shorts and my intention with these is to open up ways of looking at what Travel is and what Creativity is along with why it's important for us.

Travel is a Journey: What is Travel? - ep 1

What is Travel series: The many ways of looking at Travel Travel can mean so many things. It’s more than going from one place to another, and it’s greater than having an experience. It can be a physical movement from A to B, but it can also be a mental and emotional process. Travel can be contained in a moment through a memory or daydream. We can travel via our senses, through space and time. We travel in stories and art. We travel outward as well as inwards. And we don’t have to go very far to have a transformative experience. After living as a nomad since 2017, I am interested in exploring the multitudes of what travel is along with expanding our way of looking at it. When you think of travel, what are the first things that come to mind? Maybe you envision a vacation to Europe or the Tropics or some faraway place. Maybe a business trip or a retreat of some kind? There are so many reasons why we might be drawn to travel. A vacation, rest, retreat, business, school, escape, a spiritual journey, a bucket list, a long-time dream and so much more. I invite you to join me in this exploration of travel, taking a deeper look at more possibilities of what it can be and ways travel can be even more meaningful. How my podcasts are made If it’s a Solo podcast I’ll start with a script that I write myself, usually by hand and then typed into my computer. Then I record in my podcast video/audio editor. I use my computer camera and a separate mic. I edit in my podcast video/audio editor. The editor tools I use may enhance the sound if there were any recording issues: tuning up the volume or minimizing background noise. I edit sound using both the transcript as well as the wav file. There are many AI bells and whistles in my editing software which I don’t really use, as I’m wanting to create something human. Handmade is my esthetic. For the video editing, I lay public domain/royalty free images and video on top of parts of my recorded video. I also use some of my own images and videos. Each image and video clip is hand-placed by me. I am making all the creative decisions every step of the way. When I record a podcast interview with another person it’s pretty much the same as above. Instead of a script I start with a general outline with questions. When editing an interview, I’ll probably use fewer images for the sake of time and emphasize images of the guests’ artwork or anything else that I feel would enhance the interview. Alea Bone Interview: How I changed my life for art

Alea Bone Interview How I changed my life for art In this episode, Alea shares her path from Northern California to Yosemite to Portland to Los Angeles, and finally, to Joshua Tree. We talk about her process of working with found objects and how she discovered the beauty of bottlecaps and tin. Alea also discusses the impact of travel on how she makes her artwork, arriving at a big realization about how she wants to live her life and what it means to find her forever home. Artist Bio Alea Bone received her BFA in Illustration from the Pacific Northwest College of Art. Soon after graduating, she traded in her paintbrush for tin snips and a hammer. Her art is tactile and physical, cutting leather and pounding metal. She gleans inspiration from discarded items such as bottlecaps, beer cans and vintage tin. Over the last 15 years of working with recycled materials, she has discovered that objects have a way of finding her - rather than the other way around.  Growing up in Northern California and spending time in Yosemite, she gains inspiration from the beauty of nature. She recently relocated to the desert from Portland, Oregon in a car loaded with more bottlecaps than personal possessions. Her extensive collection has been donated by friends from all over the world throughout the years. These materials represent a collaboration of intention, generosity, and love, and add communal energy to her work.  To see more of Alea Bones work go to: aleabone on Instagram And BoneWerx on facebook If you enjoyed this podcast please consider subscribing to my email on my website: www.travelcreaterepeat.com There you can stay up to date on my travel blog, podcast episodes and see what’s in the art shop.
