Dear Theophilus: From Persecutor to Brother

Acts 9.1-31 18 October 2026   What happens when Jesus transforms someone we never thought could change? In Acts 9.1–31, Saul goes from persecuting the followers of Jesus to proclaiming him as the risen Messiah. But his transformation also challenges the church: will we welcome the people Jesus is changing, even when we have every reason to fear or distrust them? Join us as we discover the power of the gospel to turn a persecutor into a brother and to build his church through transformed, Spirit-empowered disciples.

Dear Theophilus: Wherever the Spirit Sends Us

Acts 8.26-40 11 October 2026 In Acts 8.26–40, Philip is sent by the Holy Spirit to a desert road where he encounters an Ethiopian eunuch who has traveled to Jerusalem to worship and is reading Isaiah 53. What follows is a beautiful picture of the gospel crossing boundaries, fulfilling the promises of Scripture, and bringing someone who had always been on the outside fully into God's people through Jesus. The gospel is moving from Jerusalem to Judea, Samaria, and now toward the ends of the earth. And wherever the Spirit sends God's people, the gospel goes with them.

Dear Theophilus: Wherever God Says Go, He Goes Before Us

Acts 8.4-25 4 October 2026 In Acts 8.4–25, Philip takes the gospel into Samaria and discovers that God is already at work there. What began with persecution and scattering becomes a movement of salvation, healing, the Holy Spirit, and great joy. Following Jesus sometimes means stepping beyond our comfort zone. But wherever God says go, He goes before us. Join us as we explore what happens when we stop holding on to our comfort, follow where the Spirit leads, and discover that God is already at work on the other side of our obedience.

Dear Theophilus: What Are We Becoming?

Acts 7.1-8.3 27 September 2026 In Acts 7, Luke gives us a remarkable picture of Stephen—not simply as a faithful believer, but as a disciple who has become like Jesus. In his teaching, his courage, his response to opposition, and even his death, Stephen reflects the character of Jesus. But Stephen’s story also raises a challenging question for us: What are we becoming? Discipleship is more than believing the right things or possessing the right religious signs. It is allowing the Holy Spirit to form us into people who look increasingly like Jesus. As we walk through Stephen’s story, we’ll see what happens when a disciple is shaped by Jesus—and what can happen when religious identity becomes more important than becoming like him.

Dear Theophilus: Don’t Let the Blessing Become the Barrier.

Acts 6.1-15 20 September 2026 In Acts 6, the early church discovers that even a Spirit-filled community can face conflict, inconvenience, and difficult problems. The question is not simply, “Am I right?” but “Who am I becoming?” Don't let God's blessings become barriers to following Jesus and carrying his kingdom forward.

Dear Theophilus: The Power of Being Powerless

Acts 5.17-42 13 September 2026 What happens when the church has no political power, no cultural influence, and no ability to control the world around it? Acts 5 gives us an answer. The Apostles were arrested, imprisoned, threatened, and beaten. Yet they refused to stop proclaiming Jesus. They discovered that the power of God's Kingdom does not depend on armies, governments, influence, or force. Sometimes the greatest strength of the church is found when we are willing to trust God, obey Jesus, and remain faithful—even when it costs us something. Join us as we explore Acts 5.17-42 and discover The Power of Being Powerless.

Dear Theophilus: The Presence and the Power

6 September 2026 Acts 4.32–5.16 What happens when the presence of God becomes real among His people? Acts 5 gives us the sobering story of Ananias and Sapphira and reminds us that the presence and power of the Holy Spirit are not something to take lightly. God doesn’t simply want to empower us—He wants to transform us. As we seek more of God’s presence and power, we must also desire the character of Jesus to take deeper root in our lives. The early church was a community where people encountered the living God, experienced His power, and were being changed.

Dear Theophilus: We Can’t Help but Speak

Acts 4:5-31 30 August 2026Peter and John were ordinary men, but they had been with Jesus. Now, standing before the same religious powers that rejected their Lord, they find themselves empowered by the Holy Spirit to speak with remarkable boldness. Their confidence wasn’t rooted in education, influence, or clever arguments, but in what they had seen and heard in their time with Jesus. Acts 4 invites us to become the same kind of people, so deeply shaped by Jesus and empowered by His Spirit that we can’t help but speak.
