Healing and Still Petty - When Protecting Your Feelings Gets a Little… Petty

Episode 16: Healing and Still Petty When Protecting Your Feelings Gets a Little… Petty What happens when you’re healing, growing, becoming more self-aware… and still occasionally have the thought? In this episode of Healing Out Loud, I’m talking about those moments when protecting our feelings starts looking a little like pettiness—ignoring the call, getting quiet, keeping an unspoken tally, or saying “I’m fine” when we are definitely not fine. Because healing doesn’t require emotional perfection. Sometimes the real growth is recognizing what’s underneath our reactions and deciding what we want to do next. We’ll talk about the difference between boundaries and punishment, the feelings underneath protective behaviors, and learning to notice our reactions without shaming ourselves for having them. This Week’s Reflection What am I trying to protect right now—and is the way I’m protecting myself actually taking care of me? Petty can be in the group chat. She just can’t be running the damn thing. Thank you for being part of the Healing Out Loud journey. Join the Healing in Motion community on Facebook for continued conversations, encouragement, and support as we continue healing together—one honest conversation at a time. Because we are not healing alone. We are not healing silently. And we’re certainly not healing perfectly. We’re simply healing out loud. Speak it. Heal it. Live it… Out Loud.

Who Are You When Nobody Needs Anything From You? Rediscovering yourself beyond the roles you carry

Episode 15: Who Are You When Nobody Needs Anything From You? Rediscovering Yourself Beyond the Roles You Carry Who are you when nobody needs anything from you? Not the employee. The mother. The partner. The friend. The caregiver. The strong one. The person everybody knows they can depend on. Just you. In this episode of Healing Out Loud, I sit with a question that turned out to be much harder to answer than I expected. After years of working, loving, supporting, surviving, and showing up for other people, I realized I wasn’t completely sure what it meant to actively participate in my own life. We’re talking about self-discovery beyond our wounds—learning what we enjoy now, what we’ve outgrown, what we're curious about, and who we might be becoming. Because maybe you haven't lost yourself. Maybe there are simply parts of you that haven't had enough room to introduce themselves yet. In this episode, we explore: The difference between being alive and participating in your own lifeRediscovering yourself beyond the roles you carryWhy “I don't know what I want” can be an invitation rather than a failureGiving yourself permission to explore, play, create, travel, rest, and try something newChoosing your life while still loving and supporting the people in it Reflection: Who am I when nobody needs anything from me—and what is one thing I'd like to discover about myself now? Stop Trying to Outrun Your Healing — Why Running Away Doesn’t Heal What We’re Carrying

Stop Trying to Outrun Your Healing Why Running Away Doesn’t Heal What We’re Carrying Sometimes we run away from healing because what we’re carrying feels too heavy. Other times, once we finally recognize what needs our attention, we try to rush through the process—fixing, changing, confronting, and trying to become “healed” as quickly as possible. But healing isn’t a race. In this episode of Healing Out Loud, we’re talking about the difference between taking a much-needed break and avoiding what is still waiting for us when we return. We also explore what happens when we compare our healing to someone else’s and begin wondering why we’re not further along. Because the truth is: Their healing was never supposed to become the measuring stick for yours. Maybe healing isn’t about running away—or racing toward some perfect healed version of ourselves. Maybe it’s about staying with ourselves long enough to heal at the pace healing requires. In This Episode Rest vs. avoidanceThe ways we “run” without going anywhereWhy awareness can make us want to fix everything at onceComparing our healing journey to othersChoosing one soul-rooted action from where we are Reflection What have you been trying to outrun? Are you running away from something that needs your attention—or trying to rush through your healing because you think you should be further along? If you need a moment to pause and reconnect after this conversation, listen to Rooted in Healing Practice: Returning to Yourself. Speak it. Heal it. Live it… Out Loud.

Choosing Differently: One Choice at a Time.

Episode 12: Choosing Differently The Pattern Series – Part Four Episode Description After we recognize the pattern, understand where it came from, and learn the power of the pause, one question remains: Now what? In this episode, we’re talking about what it really means to choose differently—not by changing your entire life overnight, but by interrupting old patterns one choice at a time. We’ll also explore something that isn’t talked about enough in healing: the highs and the lows. The excitement of breakthrough… and the discouragement that sometimes follows when the old pattern shows up again. If you’ve ever wondered whether you’re failing because you’re still struggling, this conversation is for you. In This Episode * Why awareness can feel both empowering and overwhelming * The difference between urgency and alignment * How to stop treating every realization like an emergency * Why healing includes both highs and lows * How one small choice can begin to interrupt an old pattern Signature Reflection You don’t break a pattern all at once. You interrupt it one choice at a time. Gentle Practice This week, when you notice an old pattern rising, pause and ask yourself: * Is this mine to carry? * Is this coming from peace or panic? * What is one different choice I can make right now? Journal Prompt Where in your life are you being invited to choose one aligned action instead of ten anxious ones? —————- Thank you for being part of the Healing Out Loud journey. The Power of the Pause: Where Healing Catches Up to Awareness

Episode 11: The Power of the Pause: Where Healing Catches Up to Awareness In this episode of Healing Out Loud, I’m continuing The Pattern Series with a conversation about the pause — that quiet, uncomfortable, powerful space between the trigger and the response, the old pattern and the new choice. After a rough and overwhelming week, I found myself living the very lesson this episode is about. I had to slow down. I had to listen to my body. I had to stop pushing myself just because I felt behind. This episode is a reminder that pausing is not quitting. It is not weakness. It is not avoidance. Sometimes the pause is the place where we finally get enough space to hear ourselves clearly. I’m sharing how the pause can help us move from reacting out of fear to choosing from a place of peace, awareness, and self-trust. Healing does not always happen in the big breakthrough. Sometimes it happens in the breath before the next choice. In this episode, I reflect on: * Why old patterns often rush us into reacting * How awareness needs space before it can become change * Why the pause can feel uncomfortable but still be sacred * The difference between reacting from fear and choosing from peace * How healing can begin with one small intentional pause Signature Reflection: The pause is where healing catches up to awareness. Journal Prompt: Where in my life could one intentional pause create room for a different choice? Gentle Practice for the Week: This week, don’t try to fix everything. Just notice one pause. One deep breath before you answer. One quiet moment before you react. One chance to ask yourself: What would love choose here instead of fear? Because we are not healing alone. We are not healing silently. And we are certainly not healing perfectly. We’re simply Healing Out Loud.

    When Survival Becomes Identity

Episode 10: When Survival Becomes Identity   This episode introduces a new Healing Out Loud philosophy: Survival Whispers—the quiet messages we've carried for years without realizing they were once trying to protect us. There are moments in life when we look at ourselves and think, "That's just who I am." But what if some of the traits we've accepted as our personality are actually survival strategies we learned along the way? In this episode of Healing Out Loud, I explore how childhoodexperiences, painful relationships, and life's challenges can quietly shape the way we see ourselves, the way we love, and the way we move through the world. Together, we'll unpack the difference between who we truly are and who we became in order to survive. We'll explore the idea of Survival Whispers—the quiet messages that once protected us—and how healing gently invites us to listen for a new voice. This isn't about blaming our past or judging ourselves for the ways we've coped. It's about meeting ourselves with compassion, understanding our patterns, and realizingthat awareness gives us the opportunity to choose differently.   In this episode, we'll explore: • How survival strategies can become part of our identity • The difference between survival and healing • Why curiosity is more powerful than self-judgment • What it means to honor your survival without remaining in survival mode • How healing begins when awareness creates space for new choices   Reflection As you move through this week, ask yourself: What part of myself have I spent years trying to fix... that may have simply been trying to protect me? Notice what comes up with curiosity instead of judgment. Remember... "Healing begins the moment curiosity becomes louderthan judgment."   Thank you for being part of the Healing Out Loud journey.
