The Watcher: The Stranger Who Knew Too Much About 657 Blvd | The BIL and SIL Show

In 2014, Derek and Maria Broaddus bought what was supposed to be their dream home at 657 Boulevard in Westfield, New Jersey.Three days later, before they had even moved in, a letter arrived. It was addressed to “The New Owner.”The person behind it called themselves The Watcher. What followed was a series of increasingly disturbing letters claiming that the house had been watched by the writer's family for generations. Even more unsettling, the letters contained details about the Broadduses, their home, and their three children. The family never spent a single night in the house. In this episode of The BIL & SIL Show, one host goes in completely blind while the other walks through the bizarre true story behind the Netflix series. We explore the letters, the investigation, the neighbors who became suspects, the DNA evidence, the theories surrounding the Broaddus family themselves, and the question nobody has ever been able to answer:Who was The Watcher? And here's where the real story gets even stranger. The house was eventually sold in 2019 for approximately $959,000, far below the roughly $1.35 million the Broadduses had paid for it five years earlier. The new owners reportedly have never received a Watcher letter. The identity of the person responsible has never been established, and no one has ever been charged. In this episode, we discuss:The true story behind 657 BoulevardDerek and Maria BroaddusThe first letter from The WatcherHow the letters escalatedWhat The Watcher appeared to know about the familyThe Westfield police investigationThe DNA found on one of the envelopesThe neighbors who became suspectsThe theory that the family sent the letters themselvesThe lawsuit against the home's previous ownersWhy the Broadduses never moved into the houseThe eventual sale of 657 BoulevardWhether The Watcher was ever identifiedThe biggest unanswered questions surrounding the case💬 Who do YOU think The Watcher was?Was it a neighbor? Someone connected to the house's history? Someone who had access to information about the family? Or was the truth completely different from what investigators imagined? If you enjoy true crime, unsolved mysteries, strange cases, and real conversations between two people trying to figure out what actually happened, subscribe to The BIL & SIL Show and join us for the next case.#TheWatcher #TheWatcherTrueStory #657Boulevard #TrueCrime #TrueCrimePodcast #TheBILandSILShow #UnsolvedMystery #TrueCrimeCommunity #Mystery #NetflixTrueCrime

The official state autopsy has been completed, but its findings have not been publicly released as the case moves toward grand-jury review. And the story has continued to develop. The investigation has generated intense online speculation, and three people have faced federal charges over alleged threats against individuals connected to the case. Most recently, Edward James Porter was indicted after allegedly threatening a witness and the witness's family. As of this episode, nobody has been charged with causing Nolan's death. This is an active investigation, and there is still a great deal we do not know. We distinguish throughout the episode between confirmed information, allegations, witness accounts, and online speculation.💬 What do you think happened on Horn Island?Which unanswered question do you think investigators most need to resolve? If you enjoy true crime discussions, developing cases, unsolved mysteries, and genuine conversations about the evidence, subscribe to The BIL & SIL Show and join us for the next case.#NolanWells #NolanXavierWells #JusticeForNolanWells #HornIsland #TrueCrime #TrueCrimePodcast #TheBILandSILShow #Mississippi #UnsolvedMystery #TrueCrimeCommunity

The Lindsay Clancy Trial | A Mother, Three Children & an Impossible Question | The BIL and SIL Show

On January 24, 2023, Lindsay Clancy, a labor and delivery nurse and mother of three, was home with her children in Duxbury, Massachusetts. Her husband, Patrick, left the house to pick up dinner and medication. When he returned, he found Lindsay severely injured outside their home after she had jumped from a second-story window.Inside the basement were their three children: 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 8-month-old Callan. All three had been strangled with exercise bands.Lindsay survived her suicide attempt but was left paralyzed. And unlike many of the cases we cover, there is no mystery surrounding who killed the children as the case stands.Lindsay Clancy has acknowledged that she did.The question at the center of her trial is something entirely different:Was Lindsay Clancy criminally responsible for what she did?In this episode of The BIL & SIL Show, one host goes in completely blind while the other walks through Lindsay's deteriorating mental health following the birth of her third child, her repeated attempts to seek psychiatric treatment, the medications she was prescribed, the events of January 24, and the radically different interpretations of those events presented to a Massachusetts jury.Lindsay's defense argues that she was suffering from postpartum psychosis and a severe mental disease that left her unable to appreciate or control the wrongfulness of her actions. Defense experts testified that she experienced a command hallucination telling her to kill her children and herself.Prosecutors agree that Lindsay struggled with mental illness, but argue that she was not psychotic and remained criminally responsible. They point to evidence they say demonstrates planning, including Lindsay determining how long her husband's errands would take before sending him out of the house. The case has become one of the most closely watched trials in the country and has ignited a much larger conversation about postpartum mental illness, psychiatric care, motherhood, and where severe mental illness intersects with criminal responsibility. And as we're publishing this episode, the story is still unfolding. On September 1, 2026, after more than 17 hours of deliberations, jurors told the judge they were unable to reach a unanimous verdict. The judge instructed them to continue deliberating. This case involves the deaths of three very young children and serious questions about mental illness. Our discussion is not about minimizing what happened to Cora, Dawson, and Callan. It's about examining the evidence and the difficult legal question the jury itself is now being asked to answer.💬 After hearing both sides, where do you land?Do you believe Lindsay understood the wrongfulness of what she was doing, or do you believe she was experiencing a psychotic break that made her incapable of being criminally responsible?#LindsayClancy #LindsayClancyTrial #PostpartumPsychosis #TrueCrime #TrueCrimePodcast #TheBILandSILShow #TrueCrimeCommunity #Massachusetts #MentalHealth
