Get Out of Your Own Way: Faith, Habits & Taking Accountability

Get Out of Your Own Way: Faith, Habits & Taking Accountability Sometimes the biggest thing standing between you and the life God is calling you to live… is you. In this episode of Living Radiance, LaCole “Purlz” Purley gets vulnerable about recognizing when fear, past trauma, overthinking, and negative thought patterns began affecting her current relationship—and what happened when she stopped looking outward and started asking, “Am I contributing to the problem?” Through 1 Corinthians 10:13 and Matthew 6:25–34, we explore what it means to seek God first, stop allowing anxiety about tomorrow to steal today’s joy, and trust that God provides a way through the temptations and struggles we face. This conversation goes beyond relationships. We dive into how the small decisions we make every day shape our spiritual, financial, mental/emotional, physical, and social health. Drawing inspiration from The Slight Edge by Jeff Olson, LaCole discusses simple disciplines that can compound into major transformation—including gratitude, journaling, meditation, acts of kindness, exercise, reading, and creating habits that support the person God is calling you to become. We also discuss: Recognizing when you may be self-sabotaging something goodHealing from past relationship trauma without punishing your current partnerChoosing faith over fear and anxietyDependency vs. independence vs. interdependenceTaking responsibility for your own growthBuilding habits instead of chasing temporary motivationThe power of fasting, prayer, Scripture, and spiritual disciplineWhy small daily changes can transform your health and futureLearning to enjoy the journey instead of obsessing over your timelineTaking better care of yourself so you can better serve othersYou don’t have to change your entire life overnight. This Is Your Year: Renew Your Mind, Break Old Habits & Walk in Freedom With Christ

A new year means another opportunity—but what are you going to do with the time God has given you? In this first Living Radiance session of 2026, LaCole “Purlz” Purley challenges us to stop simply wishing for change and start intentionally becoming the people God has called us to be. Through Scripture, personal reflection, prayer, and powerful conversations with the Living Radiance community, this episode explores what it means to renew your mind, strengthen your spirit, create better habits, forgive those who have hurt you, and walk boldly in the freedom Christ has already given you. We dive into Psalm 34:19, Luke 6:27–45, Romans 12:1–2, Matthew 5:16, 1 Corinthians 6:19–20, Galatians 5, and more as we discuss how to persevere through affliction, love and pray for our enemies, resist the desires of the flesh, and let our light shine—even when people misunderstand, gossip about, or wrong us. LaCole also gets personal about confronting anger after discovering negative things were being said about her, choosing prayer over retaliation, and recognizing that the greatest response to darkness is continuing to live in the light. This episode also challenges you to examine all Five Pillars of Health: 🙏 Spiritual — Are you drawing closer to God and allowing His Word to guide your decisions? 💰 Financial — Are you working toward freedom instead of remaining enslaved by unhealthy financial habits? 🧠 Mental/Emotional — Are you renewing your mind instead of allowing your emotions to control your actions? 💪 Physical — Are you honoring your body as a temple of the Holy Spirit? ❤️ Social/Relational — Are the people around you pouring into your cup—or draining it? You’ll also be challenged to write down your goals for 2026, develop an action plan, find accountability partners, practice fasting and discipline, replace temporary “diets” with lasting habits, and live every day with greater urgency and purpose. 2025 is behind you. 2026 is here. Stop procrastinating. Stop allowing fear, pride, resentment, your flesh, or the opinions of others to keep you from becoming who God created you to be. Your life has purpose. Your gifts have purpose. Your time has purpose. Stand firm. Renew your mind. Let your light shine. And make this your year to live your radiance—all for the glory of God. You can always improve yourself and your situation. Stop Living in Your Feelings: Let God Renew Your Mind

What if the greatest battle for your mental and emotional health isn’t happening around you—but within your mind, your habits, and the choices you make every day? In this episode of Living Radiance, LaCole “Purlz” Purley continues the conversation on discipline, focusing specifically on the mental and emotional pillar of health and how strengthening your relationship with God can transform the way you think, respond, and live. Beginning with Proverbs 17:22—“A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person’s strength”—LaCole challenges listeners to stop treating mental and emotional struggles like permanent limitations. An illness, weakness, or disability does not automatically mean impossibility. Growth requires discipline, intentionality, and a willingness to renew your mind. Through passages including Ephesians 4, Psalm 18, Matthew 6:33, Romans 14, and Titus 2, this episode explores what it means to: Let the Holy Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudesReplace bitterness, anger, fear, lust, and destructive habits with godly characterSeek God before making decisions instead of only asking Him to fix the consequences afterwardUnderstand the difference between biblical conviction and condemnationStop allowing comfort, pride, comparison, or emotions to keep you from growingStudy God’s Word instead of merely reading it casuallyBecome an example that helps strengthen the next generationServe God throughout every season of your lifeDevelop greater mental, emotional, and spiritual strengthLaCole also shares reflections from a recent keynote speaking experience, her own journey from atheism to a growing relationship with Christ, and the lessons she continues learning about surrendering personal desires in order to follow God’s direction. The message is simple but challenging: you can choose to remain comfortable in old patterns, or you can allow God to transform you into someone new. Conviction is not meant to destroy you. It can reveal where growth is needed. Seek God first. Study His Word. Discipline your mind. Strengthen your spirit. And choose daily to become who God is calling you to be. What if the greatest battle you're fighting isn't physical—but spiritual? You Say You Believe in God… But Do You Actually Know Him?

You say you believe in God—but have you actually taken the time to know Him for yourself? 👀 Too many people build their beliefs around what a pastor said, what their family taught them, what they saw in a short clip, or what the world says about God… without ever opening the Bible for themselves. In this episode of Living Radiance, on July 14,2026, we dive into Proverbs 14, the pursuit of wisdom, accountability, repentance, purpose, good works, and what it truly means to LIVE your faith—not just claim it. 📖 Stop letting the world tell you who God is. 🔥 Read His Word for yourself. 🙏🏽 Seek wisdom. 💡 Know what you believe—and why you believe it. The Bible is accessible. The wisdom is there. The question is: Are you willing to read it? Key Takeaways LaCole emphasized that lack of Bible reading leads to moral confusion, susceptibility to false prophets, and spiritual weaknessWealth was reframed beyond money to include health, wisdom, and good works.LaCole discussed a recurring theme from conversations she had during the week — people expressing confusion about faith, false prophets, and morality, yet none of them had personally read the Bible.Personal Bible reading is foundational to a genuine relationship with God.Relying solely on secondhand religious instruction, short media clips, or cultural assumptions about faith is insufficient. The Bible is free and widely accessible; lack of access is not a valid barrier.Black History, Education, and the Responsibility to ReadThe ability to read is a hard-won privilege that should not be taken for granted.Choosing not to read, especially the Bible, is a failure to honor both historical sacrifice and God's provision.Performative vs. Genuine FaithTrue godliness is measured by lifestyle, not church attendance or self-proclamation.Believers are called to love all people, pray for enemies, and do good works consistently — not selectively.Action Items Begin or continue a daily practice of reading one chapter of Psalms and one chapter of Proverbs corresponding to the calendar date.Personally read and study the Bible rather than relying solely on secondhand teaching or media clips.Reflect on whether personal faith is genuinely lived out or performative, and make adjustments accordingly. #LivingRadiance #ChristianPodcast #Faith #BibleStudy #Proverbs14 #ChristianTikTok #ChristianContent #KnowGod #BiblicalWisdom #Purpose #FaithOverFear You can always improve yourself and your situation. Forgiveness Isn’t for Them—It’s for You: The Inner Work That Sets You Free

Key Outcomes The session recorded on July 7, 2026 centered on forgiveness, inner work, and holistic self-care across five pillars: spiritual, financial, mental/emotional, physical, and social health. LaCole led scripture-based discussion on releasing grudges, living by the Holy Spirit's fruits, and aligning actions with biblical principles rather than feelings. Participants shared personal reflections on caregiving, physical health recovery, and church community. Decisions Made Forgiveness is self-directed: Releasing grudges benefits the forgiver, not the offender — it breaks cycles of anger, envy, and anxiety.Feelings vs. Facts: Emotions are temporary and cannot change reality; action, legality, and covenant do.Marriage vs. Partnership: Girlfriend/boyfriend relationships do not carry the same privileges or rights as a legally and spiritually covenanted marriage.Inner work is non-negotiable: Self-accountability, not blame or distraction, is the path to genuine growth. Key Themes Covered Mark 11:25 — Forgive before praying for yourself; grudges block receiving God's forgiveness.Matthew 5:44 — Commanded to love and pray for enemies, not just those who treat us well.Psalm 51:9–13 — Stop replaying past mistakes; seek a renewed, clean spirit.Galatians 5:16–26 — Sinful nature vs. Holy Spirit fruits: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.Philippians 4:6–7 — Pray about everything, not just desires; God's peace surpasses understanding. Five Pillars of Health — Maintenance Points Spiritual: Daily prayer, scripture reading, treating others as you wish to be treated.Financial: Consistent debt payoff; build savings before lifestyle upgrades.Mental/Emotional: Do inner work to address root causes; avoid using distractions as band-aids over deep wounds.Physical: Bodies are God's temple — neglecting them limits capacity to serve others.Social: Learn communication skills; understand the distinct commitments of marriage vs. dating. Open Questions / Ongoing Challenges How to respond to family members who weaponize past mistakes rather than acknowledging personal growth.Overcoming analysis paralysis — waiting to understand everything before acting prevents learning through experience.Praying for church leaders and younger ministers to be identified and groomed within local congregations. Action Items All participants: Build and maintain a prayer list that includes people who come to mind unprompted; check in on them. All participants: Daily self-assessment against the fruits of the Spirit as a personal health check. Why Men Cheat: The Truth About Mental Health, Respect & Relationships

Why do men cheat? Is it really just about sex... or is there something deeper? This conversation might challenge what you've always believed. In this episode of Living Radiance, John joins me for an honest discussion about men's mental health, communication, respect, relationships, and the emotional struggles many men never talk about. We also share real-life stories, discuss how society shapes boys into men, and explore what it takes to build healthier relationships. 💬 Do you think cheating is a choice, a symptom of deeper issues, or both? Drop your thoughts in the comments—and don't forget to share this episode with someone who needs to hear it. 🎧 Listen now! #LivingRadiance #MensMentalHealth #Relationships #Communication #Healing #Growth #Podcast #SelfReflection #FaithAndRelationships The conversation began with LaCole sharing an unexpected setback: her housing application was denied just hours before her scheduled move-in. While frustrating, the group believed the rejection may have been protection after uncovering several red flags about the property. They also shared practical apartment-hunting tips, including visiting properties during busy evening hours and never touring alone. The recorded discussion on June 30, 2026 then shifted to Men's Mental Health Awareness Month, where LaCole and special guest John explored the deeper issues behind cheating, broken relationships, and the emotional struggles many men face. Rather than excusing infidelity, they emphasized the importance of understanding its root causes so healthier relationships can be built. Together, they discussed how boys are often conditioned from childhood to view being a "player" as a badge of honor, while peer pressure, social media, and unhealthy cultural messages reinforce destructive relationship habits. They contrasted these influences with biblical principles that encourage love, integrity, and commitment. John shared his perspective on the most common unmet needs that can contribute to infidelity: sex, respect, love, and communication, identifying communication as the most preventable cause of relationship breakdown. The conversation stressed that cheating is always a choice, but unresolved emotional and relational needs should be addressed before they become larger problems. Real-life stories brought the discussion to life, including a young man who transformed his life for a relationship only to be unexpectedly abandoned, and another story about confession, forgiveness, and the difficult road toward rebuilding trust after infidelity. The episode also examined the mental health challenges many men experience. The group discussed how shame, societal expectations, and the pressure to appear strong often prevent men from seeking help. They emphasized the importance of trusted mentors, honest conversations, accountability, and faith-based communities where men can find genuine support and healing. Ultimately, this episode is a candid conversation about relationships, emotional health, accountability, and the importance of creating safe spaces where both men and women can better understand one another. Whether you're single, dating, or married, the discussion offers practical insights into healthier communication, stronger relationships, and personal growth. You can always improve yourself and your situation. Walk in faith and move in purpose with love. Connect with me: Quick Bio: https://lacolepurlzpurley.link My website: lacole-portfolio.netlify.app
