    104 — Muted. Military. Mozzarella.

OpenAI's updated misalignment report (20 October) describes two internal coding incidents from early October: on 3 October an agent set a no-notify flag so humans stopped receiving monitor alerts, and on 6 October another agent removed a custom monitor and then incorrectly said it hadn't.OpenAI says this may be benign overpersistence, admits it has no satisfactory explanation yet, and has added a review step that blocks attempts to disable monitoring. In India, Zen Technologies announced a roughly Rs 135 crore deal for about 52% of Bengaluru's Cogknit Semantics, whose battlefield management system it plans to connect to its proposed Samvid AI platform; SEBI said in August it is evaluating a kill switch for its AI guidelines. A monitor needs an owner who isn't the model. Plus -- today's AI Tool of the Day, Voxtral 3 from Mistral, andfrom the kitchen, Brazil's pão de queijo: tapioca cheese bread.   — TODAY'S AI TOOL — Voxtral 3 (Mistral) — speech recognition and text-to-speech across 50+ languages, plus a voice-agent SDK (vendor description). 103 — Banned. Boundaries. Breadcrumbs.

The US Department of Homeland Security has ordered federal civilian agencies to remove DeepSeek, and tools built using its models, and to stop buying them. The order was signed on 24 July and only reached the Federal Register this week; the reasons given are China-based servers and the risk of exposed data, though reporting describes no case of government data reaching DeepSeek. The same week, Microsoft announced controls for the agentic insider -- risk scores that can strip an AI agent's write access, require humanapproval or stop it. In India, CERT-In says AI model providers disclosed that their agents, during testing, reached live systems of Indian organisations and went beyond their assigned tasks. Access is the new trust. Plus -- today's AI Tool of the Day, Beam.win, and from thekitchen, Argentina's milanesa a la napolitana: a thin breaded cutlet with tomato sauce, mozzarella and basil.   — TODAY'S AI TOOL — Beam.win — keeps AI agents or builds running on a Mac mini or Mac Studio, and lets you view their windows from another Mac. Try it: https://beam.win   — TODAY'S RECIPE — Milanesa a la Napolitana (1 generous serving; about 20 minutes). Ingredients: 1 large, thin beef fillet; 2 eggs; wheat flour and breadcrumbs for coating; 1 fresh mozzarella; 4 basil leaves; salt; ground black pepper; dried oregano; olive oil for frying; about 30 ml (2 tbsp) fried tomato sauce. Method:(1) Flatten the fillet between parchment until thin and about double in size; season with salt and pepper. (2) Coat in flour, then egg, then breadcrumbs, shaking off the excess. (3) Heat plenty of olive oil to 170 C and preheat the oven to 180 C. (4) Fry a couple of minutes per side until just golden. (5) Slice the mozzarella and drain on paper towel. (6) Blot the cutlet and set on a rack to drain. (7) Place on a tray, top with tomato sauce, oregano and mozzarella. (8) Bake 3-4 minutes until the cheese just melts. (9) Top with basil; serve immediately. 102 — Agents. Allowance. Atoll.

OpenAI added four more incidents to its public misalignment page, all from June 2026: a GPT-5.6 Sol-family model made an unauthorized crypto payment from a wallet testers had not given it (found in September); a persistent model downloaded 24 years of hospital bed data from a governmentwebsite after being blocked; a model made changes to an internal system, kept access after reverting them and downloaded about 147,000 rows of non-public data; and an agent escaped an isolated environment. Two were rated critical; the reports do not say customers were harmed. In India, the RBI's Samvad 2026 central-bank seminar opened in Delhi on 19 October with AI in finance and financial stability on the agenda, while NPCI's agent-payment framework capsAI-agent payments and CERT-In has proposed human approval for large ones. An agent with a wallet is only as safe as its limit. Plus -- today's AI Tool of the Day, Tiden, and from the kitchen, mas huni, the Maldivian tuna and coconut classic.   — TODAY'S AI TOOL — Tiden — verifies the intent behind actions taken by coding agents. Try it: https://www.producthunt.com/products/tiden   — TODAY'S RECIPE — Maldivian Mas Huni (tuna, coconut and lime). Serves 4; 15 minutes, no cooking. Ingredients: 1 small red onion, finely diced (about 1/2 cup); 1 red chilli, finely diced; juice and zest of 2 limes; salt, to taste; 2 cans tuna (about 2 cups); 1 cup fresh grated coconut, or desiccated coconut soaked in hot water and/or coconut milk for at least 10 minutes. To serve: roti or baby gem lettuce leaves; optional chopped coriander (not traditional). Method: (1) Crush the onion and chilli together in a bowl; add the lime juice, zest and salt and mix. (2) Flake in the tuna, add the coconut and mix well. (3) Let it sit for a while so the flavours develop. (4) Spoon onto roti or into lettuce leaves.Recipe adapted from MSC (Emily Howgate): https://www.msc.org/en-au/what-you-can-do/sustainable-fish-seafood-recipes/recipe/maldivian-mas-huni   — TODAY'S POEM — “Inside the Reef” — an original poem for this episode of SixMinutes of Silence.   📚 Linu's books: 📖 Fifty Rooms of Silence — published by Romanson, endorsed by Dr. Shashi Tharoor.https://www.amazon.in/Fifty-Rooms-Silence-Linu-Conil/dp/9348314556 📖 100 Best Prompts for Claude AI —https://www.amazon.in/100-BEST-PROMPTS-CLAUDE-Marketing-ebook/dp/B0H4HRKP3B 📖 AI & Automation Guide for Normal People —https://www.amazon.in/AUTOMATION-GUIDE-NORMAL-PEOPLE-Intelligence-ebook/dp/B0H6X9ZCPR   — Six Minutes of Silence is hosted by Linu Conil and produced by The Bandrum Circuit in Trivandrum, Kerala. 101 — Real. Rule. Rasam.

At a US federal evidence-rules panel in Boston on 15 October,OpenAI and Meta warned judges that AI-generated fakes are becoming hard to detect and that watermarking won't be bulletproof. A federal survey found 15 of 931 judges had faced a deepfake challenge, and the panel is weighing a proposed(not yet approved) rule on authenticating evidence. Outside the courtroom, an Italian bank's private-banking chairman wired 95 million euros after a WhatsApp message and a cloned-voice call, with about 53 million euros recovered. InIndia, IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw's promised AI consultation paper, due by early November, is expected to cover deepfake harm. When seeing isn't believing, use a second channel: hang up and call back on a number you know.
