My Goal Was to Get Out of My Own Business | Josh Sterling

What do you do when you've done everything right and the floor still drops out? Josh Sterling grew up in Lake Tahoe. He'd been flying since he was 17 and didn't know how to do anything else. In this episode, he shared that he wrote himself a check on a 0% credit card and bought a rental house. That one house grew into Epic Property Management. Today he hasn't been in his office in over a month. What we covered: 🡒 Why Josh never thought of himself as a visionary 🡒 The pay cut that pushed an airline pilot into real estate 🡒 Getting out of the day to day when the business is your baby 🡒 Four boats, more complexity, and the goal that's never quite the goal Josh, thank you for coming on the podcast to share your story with us. I've Never Met a Pessimistic Entrepreneur | Dan Glisky

What happens when the people who love you most warn you, and you don't listen? Dan Glisky and I have sat in the same forum for nearly 30 years. He went from Digital Equipment Corporation to a basement tech company with his brother that grew to $38 million. Today he runs Woodberry Wine and Kindred Vines Import Co. right here in Michigan. Dan went into what he calls savior mode, and it cost him about $1.5 million. Then came his divorce in 2018. He had to rebuild his finances, his companies, and his relationship with his kids, right down to remembering every birthday. So he made a decision. He was going to listen.. What we covered: 🡒 Going nine months without a paycheck and still having his best year 🡒 Saying no to buying a wine company, then yes six months later 🡒 The parents who married at 17 and 19 and chose not to pass their pain down 🡒 Why Dan asked his kids to come home and make Detroit great 🡒 His 2036 vision, built one intentional day at a time Dan, thank you for sitting down with me and sharing your story. Ten Years of Believing He Wasn't Smart Enough | Steve Acho

Steve Acho is a pop-rock songwriter with over 60 million streams on Spotify! Now he calls himself a Human Performance Architect, and once you hear his story, the title makes sense. There's a piece of that story most people never get to. At seven years old, one confusing piano lesson convinced Steve he wasn't smart enough for music. That belief followed him around for ten years. What we covered: 🡒 The steal man vs. straw man technique for actually being heard 🡒 Why knowing something is the same as not knowing it 🡒 Asking AI, and yourself, the right question instead of the fast one 🡒 What separates visionaries who finish from visionaries who only start 🡒 Why Seth Godin throws out the scale on his own work The people who change the fastest aren't the ones with the most willpower. They're the ones who found a way to see themselves getting better. Thank you, Steve, for taking the time to sit down and share your story with me! Glad to have you in this episode! *Chapters* 00:00 Intro 02:00 Steve's many commas: Japan, comedy, and 60 million streams 04:00 Unity over division: the line he stole from Mother Teresa 10:00 Wisdom is deathbed clarity, long before the deathbed 12:30 Steal man vs. straw man: the fastest way to be heard 18:00 School never taught us how to learn, only what to know 27:50 Ten years of "I'm not smart enough," undone in fifteen minutes 32:00 A smarter question than NASA asked about pens in space 37:30 Throw out the scale: Seth Godin's radical focus 41:00 What makes a visionary, and why you can only hold forty  *Connect with Steve* https://www.linkedin.com/in/steveacho/ https://www.linkedin.com/company/steveacho-music/  https://www.instagram.com/steveacho/?hl=enhttps://www.facebook.com/Steveachomusic/ ~~~ *Connect with Coach Bob* https://www.linkedin.com/in/bob-shenefelt https://www.instagram.com/imatterrevolution https://www.facebook.com/iMatterRevolutionhttps://x.com/iMatterCoachBob 📌 Subscribe for weekly conversations with visionaries, founders, and thought leaders! -- Catch new episodes of Vivá La Visionary!™ Podcast every Friday! He Turned a Game of Catch Into Organ Donation Law | David Galbenski

David Galbenski built a legal staffing company out of his parents' basement with $2,000. Then life turned. He went into end-stage liver disease from a rare autoimmune condition, and the only reason he's here today is his brother-in-law Mark, who gave him part of his own liver. Dave didn't just say thank you and move on. He and his wife built the Living Liver Foundation to support transplant families and living donors, and used baseball, having a catch, as the picture for what a donor gives a recipient. From there, they passed three separate bills in Michigan protecting living donors from losing income, insurance, or their jobs. What we covered: 🡒 Building Lumen Legal from a basement to a 27-year exit 🡒 Leading the Entrepreneurs' Organization as Global Chair 🡒 The liver transplant that changed how he sees every day 🡒 Have a catch: baseball as a metaphor for organ donation 🡒 Passing three bills in Michigan to protect living donors Thank you, Dave, for sitting down with me and telling me this much of your story. Twenty-six years of friendship, and you still had things to teach me. Mike Morse built the largest personal injury law firm in Michigan. Over a billion dollars recovered for clients. A bestselling book called Fireproof. A coaching program that now serves 180 law firms across the country. In this episode, Mike shared to me how he learned what a leadership team could actually do for him. What we covered: 🡒 How the book Fireproof got its name in a friend's basement 🡒 The night his building burned down 🡒 What changed once he finally learned to delegate 🡒 Why he gives away backpacks and won't brand a single one 🡒 What almost two decades with the same coach taught him about accountability Thank you, Mike, for sharing your story and time out of a day full of connections to sit down with me. One Question That Changes Everything: Whose Dream Am I Living? | Rob Dube

Rob Dube sold candy out of his high school locker before he ever sold anything else. That locker turned into imageOne, a company he ran for over 25 years, and imageOne turned into a life spent teaching other driven people how to slow down. Rob shares the story of the last twenty minutes with his mother, and the question one of his own students asked that he hasn't stopped thinking about since. What we covered: 🡒 Letting go of the identity we build around our businesses 🡒 Why "whose dream am I living?" changed the course of someone's whole life 🡒 What it looked like to finally grieve his mother, and his kids leaving home 🡒 The Do Nothing Retreat, and why five days of silence terrifies most driven people Rob's been one of my closest friends and former client 25 years ago, and this conversation reminded me why. We don't always need more answers. Sometimes we just need to slow down enough to hear the ones we already have. Thank you, Rob, for showing up and sitting with me in this podcast. It means more than you know. *Chapters* 00:00 Intro 01:04 Old friends, old lessons: 25 years of history 09:57 Letting go of control and scarcity 16:06 Identity, business, and letting go 20:40 Stillness and grief 27:40 Adversity as an honor 30:17 From integrator to visionary: the birth of Do Nothing 39:44 Space, piddling, and synchronicity 45:12 Say it before they're gone 49:38 Holding his mother as she passed  *Connect with Rob* https://www.linkedin.com/in/robdube/ https://www.linkedin.com/company/the10disciplines/  https://www.instagram.com/robddube/ robddubehttps://www.instagram.com/the10disciplines/ the10disciplineshttps://www.facebook.com/the10disciplines/  ~~~ *Connect with Coach Bob*https://www.linkedin.com/in/bob-shenefelt https://www.instagram.com/imatterrevolution https://www.facebook.com/iMatterRevolutionhttps://x.com/iMatterCoachBob 📌 Subscribe for weekly conversations with visionaries, founders, and thought leaders! *Prefer to listen?* Spotify → https://open.spotify.com/show/4iCo6LWV5VJO15Tz9PTIVo Apple → https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/id1896824840 Want to connect with entrepreneurial Visionaries who share your passion for making a real impact? 🌐 https://www.imatter.com

Winning Isn’t About Beating Anyone | Matt Elliott

Matt Elliott has spent thirty-five years in banking; fourteen at Bank of America, where he ended up running the whole state of Michigan. One morning he woke up sure he was having a heart attack… it ended up being the moment he realized he was completely out of capacity. Not only to run his business, but to run himself. He stepped back and wrote his book Overloaded, and built a framework around the one thing he wishes someone had taught him decades earlier: you can do anything, but you can't do everything. In this episode of The Vivá La Visionary Podcast we covered: 🡒 The Power of And, plus why the best leaders refuse to choose between growth or people, speed or quality 🡒 What Google discovered about psychological safety 🡒 Writing his own eulogy before his dad's funeral 🡒 Moving from selling to compelling, from deal guy to connector 🡒 Why he calls himself a recovering deal guy Thank you, Matt, for driving in and giving me your morning.
