What does it really mean to follow Jesus? In this opening message from our new series, "The Ways of Jesus", we look at Luke 5 and the story of Simon Peter and the fishermen after a long, exhausting night with empty nets. Jesus meets them in the middle of their ordinary routine and says, “Put out into deep water, and let down your nets for a catch.” Their response is simple: “Because you say so, I will let down the nets.” Through this story, we’re invited to consider what Jesus might be saying to us today. Are we willing to push out from the shore, go deeper, and trust Him even when we are tired, discouraged, or unsure of what comes next? The Ways of Jesus explores how we can shape our lives around the ways Jesus lived and taught. Through practices such as Scripture, prayer, solitude, rest, generosity, community, witness, and service, we create space to encounter Jesus and allow the Holy Spirit to transform us to become more like Him. Following Jesus isn’t about simply ticking boxes or completing religious activities. It’s about surrendering our time, energy, attention, and lives to Him - learning His ways, becoming more like Him, and joining Him in loving God and loving others. As we begin this journey together as a church, we’re reminded that we don’t have to do it alone. There is an invitation to go deeper, to make space for Jesus, and to discover what it looks like to faithfully follow Him in the everyday. “Master, because you say so, I will let down the nets.” Luke 5:5 What might it look like for you to let down your nets again, push into deeper water, and follow where Jesus is calling you?
