    Respectfully, That Is A Tiger

Well… Laurel survived the road trip. Barely. After spending approximately 900 years in a car, we are back, and we have a lot to talk about. There was football, a trip to the mall, Pride Weekend, The Lost Boys musical, grocery store rage, and a surprisingly wholesome corner of TikTok. And then, because this is Doom & Daisies and we apparently can't just talk about nice things, Laurel found a story about a tiger attack, and Valerie brought some absolutely awful news from Six Flags. Also, Laurel has officially watched part of The Lost Boys musical. We repeat: Laurel watched the musical. She still has feelings about it, but we're calling this progress. In This Episode 🚗 Our extremely long car ride and why Birmingham to Tupelo may actually be Hell 🏈 Georgia vs. Alabama, football rivalries, and Valerie's ongoing campaign to have Alabama removed from the SEC 🐂 Laurel's questionable decision to root for Texas because Glen Powell 🛍️ A bestie day at the mall with Big Kid and her best friend 🧛‍♂️ Laurel finally watching part of The Lost Boys musical and admitting that maybe it isn't as terrible as she thought 🌈 Pride Weekend and why Georgia celebrates Pride in October 🛒 Grocery store prices, feeding a family on a budget, and the genuinely wonderful things Chef Mo is doing with $3–$10 meals 🐅 A tragic tiger attack in England and why the tiger isn't the villain 🎢 The heartbreaking Six Flags accident and the importance of amusement park safety 🐶🐱 The upcoming Lost Boys house party, because obviously the pets need to be included in the lore The Doom of It All The tiger story was a hard one. There is absolutely nothing funny about someone losing their life, and our hearts go out to his family and everyone who witnessed what happened. But it also brought up a conversation we have had before: wild animals are still wild animals. We can love them. We can think they're beautiful. We can want to hug them. We can watch them at the zoo and feel like they're our giant babies. But a tiger doesn't know that. It doesn't know you're just trying to take a selfie. It doesn't know you're fascinated by it. It doesn't know you're not trying to hurt it. It's a tiger. And sometimes the safest place to be around a wild animal is on the other side of the very large barrier that was put there specifically to keep you from getting eaten. The Six Flags accident was another really awful reminder that even things designed for fun can go horribly wrong. We don't know all of the details yet, and we're not going to pretend we do. We just hope that everyone involved, especially the family, the other riders, witnesses, and employees...gets the support they need after something that traumatic. Basically, this week's Doom is brought to you by "Please Don't Climb Into the Enclosure" and "Maybe Stay Seated Until the Ride Stops." Tell Us! We need to know: Are you a roller coaster person? Because Laurel used to LOVE them and now has a child, which apparently means she has developed the completely rational belief that every roller coaster is going to kill her. Also… Do you like soft pretzels? Because Laurel is a pretzel hoe, and Valerie apparently doesn't like pretzels, which has caused a small but significant rift in this friendship. And if you have seen The Lost Boys musical, we need to know what you think! Are you Team Musical? Team Movie? Somewhere in the middle? Or are you Laurel and need approximately twenty minutes and a dramatic internal debate before you can form an opinion? The Lost Plot

Y'all. We have talked about absolutely everything and somehow nothing at all this week. Laurel is back from a beautiful wedding, Valerie is back from New York City, and somehow we're right back to arguing about The Lost Boys. Shocking, I know. We're talking wedding shenanigans, the struggle of finding shoes when you have size 11 feet, and why the South apparently decided that green beans cooked in sweet tea is a perfectly reasonable idea. (Laurel swears they're incredible. Valerie is still processing this information.) Valerie also saw The Lost Boys musical on Broadway, and her daughter has officially joined the fan club. Meanwhile, Laurel, who considers the original movie sacred, has FINALLY agreed to give the musical a chance. On Broadway. In person. On her terms. Baby steps, people. Naturally, this leads us down into the abyss about the movies that raised us, the tragedy of people not knowing who the Brat Pack is, and why we're apparently old enough to be personally offended by the younger generation's lack of appreciation for '80s cinema. We also get into some current headlines, emo nostalgia, the possibility of a New York City podcast trip, and Gromy's ongoing campaign to convince everyone that his mother never holds him. He would also like you to know that hockey is very important and Laurel needs to shut up. Honestly, we don't know how we got here, either. 🖤 In This Episode Laurel tells us about the wedding, insane Southern food combinations, and her last-minute search for shoes. Valerie shares her Broadway experience, and we revisit the ongoing debate over The Lost Boys musical. We mourn the apparent disappearance of '80s movie knowledge We talk about some current headlines, including the reported death of Ken Urker and the controversy surrounding Christa Pike's execution. Laurel gets nostalgic about Brand New, the emo days, and the complicated conversations surrounding artists and accountability. We discuss our love for New York City and the very reasonable possibility of taking a podcast trip to Broadway. Gromy interrupts the proceedings to demand attention, discuss hockey, and threaten Laurel. As one does. 🌼 A Little Life Update We've had a LOT going on lately, and we're not going to pretend otherwise. Between work, family, traveling, and everything that's happened since the Walhalla fire, life has been a little overwhelming. We know last week's show notes were basically two sentences, and this week we're giving you a whole lot of us just sitting around talking about whatever comes to mind. Sometimes that's what we've got in us, and we're okay with that. We love this podcast, we love making content for y'all, and we never want to put something out just for the sake of putting something out. We're getting back into our usual groove, and yes, spooky season content is coming. We promise we're not forgetting what month it is! Thank you for being patient with us while we navigate life outside the podcast, too. We appreciate y'all more than you know. 🖤 🌼 Tell Us! We have a few questions for y'all this week! What's a movie you absolutely refuse to let Hollywood remake? Have you seen The Lost Boys musical? We need to know what you think! What's a song from your teenage years you never thought you'd hear live again? And does your pet also act like they pay the bills, or is Gromy just particularly dramatic? Come talk to us! We love hearing from y'all, even when you're here to tell us we're wrong. (We reserve the right to disagree.) We'll see y'all next week for more nonsense, and hopefully a little more spooky season! As Always… Thanks for hanging out with us at Doom & Daisies, where we talk true crime, oddities, pop culture, and whatever else manages to derail the conversation. 🌐 Website: www.doomanddaisiespod.com 📘 Facebook: Doom & Daisies Podcast 📸 Instagram: @doomanddaisiespod 🎵 TikTok: @doomanddaisiespod ▶️ YouTube: Full video episodes premiere every Saturday at 12:00 PM- Just search Doom & Daisies Podcast Like, follow, subscribe, and tell your friends about us. Patient Zero?

Well… it's been a WEEK. This episode is a little bit of a mess because that's just where we are right now. We talk concerts, sunburns, music, making memories with the people we love, and trying to find little bright spots when life feels heavy. We also talk about the fire that destroyed a huge part of Main Street in Walhalla, the loss of Laurel's studio and everything inside it, and the absolutely overwhelming amount of kindness that has come from our little community. And then…we CRASH out over Taylor Swift...you know...as one does.  Also, a little housekeeping: We're going to be changing up the way we title our episodes! We want our titles to feel a little more us...fun, weird, chaotic, and something that makes you curious enough to hit play. So if you notice the titles looking a little different from here on out, that's why. Same Doom & Daisies chaos, just with a new little twist.  In This Episode -Valerie survives a three-day music festival for Middle Kid, including heat, crowds, rain, and getting Middle Kid to the barricade for Gorillaz. -We talk about doing things we don't necessarily want to do because we love the people we're doing them for. -Laurel officially declares that she is a seated concert girlie now. -We check in on the aftermath of the Walhalla fire and the loss of Laurel's studio, office, belongings, and sentimental things. -We process some heavy news surrounding the Nolan Wells case. -We find a very important bright spot: pumpkin s'more cookies. -THEN...Taylor Swift announced a mysterious new single called "Patient Zero." ---Naturally, we spiral--- Vault tracks? A new era? Debut? Reputation? Showgirl? Something completely unexpected? We have theories. We have questions. We have absolutely no idea what Blondie is doing. A Little Real Talk This week wasn't exactly an easy one. Sometimes you don't need to have everything figured out. Sometimes you just need to sit with your people, talk about what's happening, laugh about something completely ridiculous, and let yourself have a little bit of a crash out. And sometimes that crash out happens to involve Taylor Swift. ...that's allowed, too. Thank you for letting us process the hard stuff, celebrate the little things, and be our completely unhinged selves with you. The Garden of The Gods, The Blue Cheese Cave, & The Crows

Before we get into this week's episode, we need to give you a little bit of context to some horror that we experienced this week. This episode was recorded shortly before a devastating fire affected Laurel's hometown of Walhalla, South Carolina. We had just spent the afternoon talking about the place she loves so much: the history, the people, the stories, the folklore, and her family that has been tied to this little corner of the mountains for generations. We had absolutely no idea what was coming. So, before the episode starts, Laurel recorded a short introduction to explain what happened and why this episode feels a little different now. And then, we went right back to being us. This week starts with Laurel having a bone to pick with herself, because somehow she still hasn't seen Practical Magic 2. We talk about music festivals, family, new TV shows… But eventually, we make our way home. Laurel takes us on a little trip through Walhalla, South Carolina, and talks about why this tiny mountain town means so much to her. We get into her family's connection to the area, the German settlers who helped establish Walhalla, Cherokee history, local legends, and some of the folklore that has been passed down around here. There's Issaqueena Falls. There's Stumphouse Tunnel. There are dead railroad workers, an unfinished hole through a mountain, blue cheese, and a whole lot of Appalachian storytelling. And underneath all of it is something a little more personal: what it means to grow up somewhere and eventually realize that the place you've always thought of as home is actually part of your story. In This Episode: -A little life catch-up and our usual inability to stay on one subject -Laurel's ongoing Practical Magic 2 crisis -Music festivals, family time, and the things keeping us busy -Laurel's Appalachian roots and why the mountains are such a huge part of who she is -The history of Walhalla, South Carolina -Laurel's family connection to the early German settlement -The legend of Issaqueena and the folklore surrounding the area -Stumphouse Mountain and the unfinished railroad tunnel -The very unexpected history of Clemson blue cheese -Why old stories and local legends are worth holding onto -Family names, cemeteries, old roads, and the feeling of coming home ...and finally…Laurel's murder of crows and their very specific food requests One of the things we love about folklore is that it doesn't have to be completely true to matter. Some stories are documented. Some are legends. Some have been told so many times that nobody really knows where the original story ended and the embellishments began. But somebody remembered them. Somebody told them to their kids. Then their kids told somebody else. And eventually, they became part of the place itself. For Laurel, this episode is about more than just Walhalla's history. It's about the mountains she grew up around, the people whose names she's heard her whole life, the property where her family built their lives, and all those little pieces that you don't necessarily appreciate when you're young because they're just…home. Then one day you realize that the old church you've driven past a thousand times is part of your family's history. The cemetery isn't just a cemetery. The mountain isn't just a mountain. And the roads you've driven so many times that you don't even think about them anymore are carrying generations of stories. That's the kind of stuff we wanted to talk about this week. Tell Us! We want to hear your hometown stories. Do you have a weird local legend? A family story that may or may not be true? A place that everyone who grew up there knows about, but nobody outside your town has ever heard of? And if you're from Walhalla, Mountain Rest, the Upstate, or anywhere around here and you have a story we missed, please tell Laurel because she will absolutely want to know. Because there's always another story. As Always… Come hang out with us beyond the podcast! Website: www.doomanddaisiespod.com Facebook: Doom & Daisies Podcast Instagram: doomanddaisiespod TikTok: doomanddaisiespod YouTube: Doom & Daisies Podcast Our full video episodes premiere every Saturday at 12:00 PM on YouTube! Thank you for listening, laughing with us, and for getting weird with us. And if you're listening to this one from somewhere far away, we hope you'll hang out with us for a little while and let Laurel show you why this little corner of the mountains means so damn much to her.

The Jury, The Cosplay, & The Remembrance

After a week and a half away, we're back…and apparently we had to cram approximately an entire year's worth of life into two weeks. Valerie survived five straight days of Dragon Con in Atlanta with the kids, approximately 75,000 nerds, a broken cosplay shoe, and enough photos to fill an entire hard drive. Laurel, meanwhile, did what Laurel does best: went to work, decorated for Halloween, watched approximately every single second of the Lindsay Clancy trial, and continued with her very serious Heated Rivalry problem. So, naturally, we had A LOT to talk about. In This Episode Valerie's first Dragon Con with the kids, including cosplay, photo shoots, D&D, ribbon trading, and the magical existence of cosplay medics The joys of being an introvert surrounded by 75,000 people Laurel attempting to understand what exactly happens at a five-day nerd convention Why conventions apparently have a little bit of everything: including things Laurel actually knows about The latest developments following the Lindsay Clancy mistrial, the jury's 11–1 split, and what could happen next Double jeopardy, manifest necessity, and Kevin Reddington's next legal fight The emotional weirdness of following a trial for weeks and suddenly having…nothing to watch Laurel and her continuous love and appreciation for Michael C. Hall, Dexter, Six Feet Under, Broadway, and Hedwig and the Angry Inch The never ending Heated Rivalry obsession Valerie's writing, imposter syndrome, and the fear that someone is going to accuse her of using AI A little reminder that sometimes you just have to keep making the things you love A Little More Serious This episode also falls on September 11, so we take a moment to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, the families who were forever changed, and the sense of unity so many people remember from that time. Whatever your beliefs, politics, or personal feelings are, some moments deserve a pause. Take a breath. Hug your people. Be grateful for the people you love. And remember the lives that were lost. Tell Us Are you a convention person? Could you survive five days at Dragon Con, or would you simply perish on the sidewalk? Have you ever needed a cosplay medic? Are you following the Lindsay Clancy case, and what do you think happens next? And, most importantly… Have you watched Heated Rivalry yet? Because Laurel has. Repeatedly. At this point, you all may need to intervene. Thank you all so much for giving us a little grace while we took a week away. Sometimes life gets chaotic, and we would rather take a breath than sit down and record something we're not proud of. We're back, we're caffeinated, we're apparently still arguing about everything. We have really missed you guys.  Take care of yourselves, take care of each other, and we'll see you next week As Always… Come hang out with us between episodes, see behind the scenes content, join the conversations, and keep up with everything we've got planned. The Rebuttal, The Truce, & The Weird Vibe

We got hate comments. We got invasive spiders. We got courtroom chaos. We got fandoms putting down their differences to collectively agree that something is terrible. And somehow, we still found time to talk about birthdays, kittens, Practical Magic, and a baby bike. Also, it's our lucky episode thirteen! So…yeah. This…this one is a lot. In This Episode: Our first hate comments: We officially welcomed ourselves to the internet by discovering our first batch of hateful TikTok comments, most of which were aimed at Laurel. Naturally, Valerie immediately requested names and addresses. Remembering Marsha P. Johnson: We celebrate Marsha P. Johnson on her birthday and talk about her role in the Stonewall era, her activism, STAR, her commitment to helping vulnerable LGBTQ+ people, and the complicated circumstances surrounding her death. More importantly, we talk about remembering her as a whole person, not just a historical icon. Sixteen & fifteen: Valerie's Middle Kid turns 16, Baby turns 15, and somehow this means Valerie is officially old. There are birthday presents, music festivals, and one very important AirTag discussion. A new stove and an army of spiders: Laurel's stove decided to betray her, and apparently her home has now become prime real estate for Joro spiders. There are approximately eleventy billion of them. Meet Ludvig: Laurel introduces us to the extremely respectful spider who lives in her shower and apparently understands boundaries better than most humans. Loki, Hades, and the spider situation: Laurel has questions. Valerie has theories. The gods are apparently working on it. Slowly. The great living room rearrangement: Laurel continues her lifelong quest to make her house feel exactly right while simultaneously refusing to buy a smaller kitchen table because she's cheap. Kitten chaos: There's a new tiny gray tabby in Laurel's house, and she is adorable, ridiculous, and not even three months old. Seasonal depression isn't just a winter thing: We talk about how much the weather affects our moods, why summer has officially betrayed Laurel, and why fall feels like a completely different personality. The dark is not invited: Laurel explains why darkness is one of her biggest fears and, naturally, we immediately wander into Appalachian folklore. The Lindsay Clancy trial: We catch up on the latest developments, including the defense resting, expert testimony, courtroom objections, credibility battles, and the dramatic moment that led to a request for a mistrial. We also talk about what may happen next as the case heads toward closing arguments and jury deliberation. "Responsible adults doing irresponsible things": We may have accidentally created our new workplace motto. The Great Fandom Truce of 2026: Invincible, Dragon Ball Z, My Little Pony, and apparently every other corner of fandom have temporarily joined forces against one common enemy: Lesbian Space Princess. Practical Magic 2: The countdown is on, and Laurel is already planning around midnight margaritas. The Witch's Brew controversy: Laurel has opinions about this year's version, and Valerie is apparently happy to accept the leftovers. A Little Reminder: Some days are just hard. Sometimes one person has a bad brain day, sometimes the other person carries the conversation, sometimes the internet cuts out seventeen times, and sometimes you spend an entire episode talking about spiders. And that's okay. We don't always have to show up perfectly. Sometimes showing up as we are: tired, distracted, overwhelmed, ridiculous, or just having a weird day…is enough. Thank you for showing up with us. And please, go have a sweet treat. Tell Us: What would your reaction be to finding 20+ giant spiders around your house? Would you let a tiny shower spider live peacefully in the corner? And most importantly… which fandom would you recruit for the Great Fandom Truce of 2026? As Always… Come hang out with us between episodes, see behind the scenes content, join the conversations, and keep up with everything we've got planned.
