The Hidden Cost of Being the Strong One

People have always called you “the strong one.” The one who keeps it together. The one everyone depends on. The one who rarely asks for help. But what if that strength came at a cost? In this episode, I explore how many of us develop the identity of being “the strong one” long before we realize it. What begins as a way to survive can quietly become a pattern of over-functioning, people-pleasing, carrying everyone else’s burdens, and believing we have to do it all alone. I also share pieces of my own story and how childhood experiences shaped the belief that depending on others wasn’t safe. It took years of healing to realize that true strength isn’t about carrying everything by yourself. It’s about knowing when to set boundaries, receive support, and let yourself be cared for too. If you’ve ever struggled to ask for help, felt guilty for resting, or found yourself constantly putting everyone else’s needs ahead of your own, this conversation is for you. In this episode, you’ll discover: • Why being “the strong one” often begins as a childhood survival strategy. • How early beliefs shape the way we show up in relationships. • Why receiving can feel harder than giving. • How to recognize when strength has become an identity instead of a choice. • A healthier definition of strength that allows you to care for yourself without guilt. Healing doesn’t ask you to become less capable. It invites you to stop carrying what was never yours to hold. Book a session with me or for more info: www.trishahayden.com

The body keeps score: What your symptoms might bring trying to tell you.

Have you ever wondered if your body is trying to get your attention? In this episode, I explore the powerful connection between your physical symptoms, emotional well-being, and nervous system. We often view pain, fatigue, tension, anxiety, and other symptoms as problems to fix, but what if they are actually messages inviting us to slow down, listen, and reconnect with ourselves? I share insights from somatic healing, nervous system regulation, and my own experience with sudden shoulder pain that resolved after rest, reflection, and self-care. You’ll learn how emotional suppression, chronic stress, people-pleasing, and living disconnected from your needs can show up in the body, and how to begin listening with curiosity rather than judgment. If you’ve ever felt like your body is speaking a language you don’t understand, this episode is for you. In this episode, you’ll learn: • How the nervous system influences physical symptoms • Common ways emotions can manifest in the body • Why symptoms are not always the enemy • The importance of rest, awareness, and self-compassion • Simple ways to begin reconnecting with your body’s wisdom Your body is not working against you. It may be asking you to pay attention.
