Bitcoin’s Recovery Needs Fresh Demand | Ahead of the Curve

Bitcoin has shed much of its speculative leverage, but a durable recovery still needs buyers. Today’s U.S. inflation release puts the macro backdrop in focus as weak trading activity and exchange-traded product outflows weigh on demand. We examine what cautious futures and options positioning means for liquidation risk, assess Strategy’s preferred-share funding model against a simpler alternative, and explain why government Bitcoin transfers to Coinbase Prime do not establish an immediate sale. The episode draws on K33 Research’s October 13 report, updated with October 14 inflation figures, with producer prices the next scheduled checkpoint. U.S. Bitcoin Transfers and AI Security Fears | Ahead of the Curve

The U.S. government moved more than 17,700 Bitcoin this week, including coins linked to the Bitfinex hack. Does this signal incoming selling pressure, or is it primarily a custody transfer? We examine the on-chain activity, the ongoing claims process, and where potential selling pressure could emerge. Meanwhile, OpenAI's latest mathematical breakthroughs have reignited concerns about the security of Bitcoin's cryptography. We discuss the warnings from Ethereum researchers, the pushback from cryptography experts, and why there is currently no evidence of an actual vulnerability. Plus, the U.S. Treasury withdraws proposed crypto mixing and self-hosted wallet rules, while Robinhood adds Bitcoin to its balance sheet and expands its crypto business. Ahead of the Curve is produced by K33 Research. Read more at https://k33.com/research

Few Buyers, Even Fewer Sellers | Ahead of the Curve

Bitcoin is up nearly fifty percent from its lows, but market participation remains unusually quiet. In this episode of Ahead of the Curve, we look at why K33 Research sees seller exhaustion as the most important Bitcoin-specific factor in the market today. We cover declining spot volumes, subdued derivatives positioning, the large concentration of Bitcoin around current cost bases, and why some holders may still sell as they return to breakeven. We also examine the case that Bitcoin already formed its cycle bottom in late June, and the main near-term counterweight from rising United States Treasury yields. SEC Custody Rules, Kalshi Scrutiny and Tether in Iran | Ahead of the Curve

The SEC is moving ahead with a new crypto custody framework even after the failure of the Clarity Act, while the CFTC is pushing to define the regulatory boundary around prediction markets. In this episode of Ahead of the Curve, Torbjørn Bull Jenssen covers the SEC’s latest custody proposal, the scrutiny around Kalshi’s trading volumes and incentive program, and the CFTC’s attempt to clarify how event contracts should be regulated. He also looks at a Senate investigation into Tether’s role in Iran-linked crypto activity and what the case says about the difference between USDT and Bitcoin when it comes to sanctions and enforcement. Bitcoin’s Orderly Reset | Ahead of the Curve

Bitcoin has seen its largest weekly reduction in derivatives exposure since October 2025, with remarkably little disruption to prices. In today’s episode, we examine why this orderly unwind supports a constructive outlook—and why lighter positioning alone does not guarantee another rally. Following our recent discussion of capital returning to Bitcoin, ETF inflows have continued, though their pace has slowed. We explore profit-taking in perpetual futures, the substantial reset around CME’s September expiry, and what historical comparisons can tell us. Spot holders appear reluctant to sell into strength, while rising US Treasury yields remain the main counterweight. Research and charts: k33.com/research.

Bitget Hack and Institutional Crypto Conviction | This Week in Crypto

Bitget’s roughly $352 million security breach raises questions about exchange security as new interviews offer a closer look at institutional crypto investors. In this episode, we cover the exchange’s response, Binance’s $100 million investment in Circle, the CFTC’s warning on prediction-market mention contracts, and a proposal for private Bitcoin transfers without changing Bitcoin’s consensus rules. We also examine Bitwise’s interviews with fifteen institutions: why Bitcoin remains their core crypto holding, how they choose investment vehicles, and what could make them reconsider their allocations after holding through a substantial market decline. Capital Returns as Bitcoin Breaks Out | Ahead of the Curve

Bitcoin has finally broken out of weeks of consolidation, climbing to its highest levels since January and making the first major higher high of the current drawdown. In this episode of Ahead of the Curve, we look at what changed once last week’s uncertainty cleared, why the return of external capital matters, and how Bitcoin’s move above the average ETF investor cost basis differs sharply from the failed retest in May. We also examine rising activity in futures and perpetuals, why leverage still looks relatively controlled despite improving risk appetite, and the growing evidence that the June low may already have marked the cycle bottom. CLARITY Fails, but Crypto Regulation Keeps Moving | Ahead of the Curve

The CLARITY Act failed its first major Senate test, with the cloture motion rejected 49–50. But the regulatory story did not stop there. Within days, the SEC introduced a temporary framework for certain onchain trading of tokenized U.S. stocks, while the CFTC expanded no-action relief for passive trading software providers. In this episode of Ahead of the Curve, we look at what CLARITY’s failure means for U.S. crypto regulation, why agency action can fill only part of the legislative gap, and how this week’s outcome fits with the broader convergence between crypto and traditional finance. We also cover the Federal Reserve’s 25-basis-point rate hike, Deutsche Bank’s planned digital-asset custody offering, and new legislative efforts around a U.S. Strategic Bitcoin Reserve and crypto taxation.
