We've Forgotten How to Mark the Moments That Matter

We've Forgotten How to Mark the Moments That Matter What happens when we stop marking the moments that matter? In this episode of The Unstuck Edit, I'm talking about ceremony, ritual and tradition, and why I believe we need to bring more of them back into our lives. I'm a ceremonialist, and I've become increasingly passionate about the importance of pausing to acknowledge what has happened, honouring the people and experiences that have shaped us, and marking the transitions that change who we are. I'll share a story about a lack of funeral that made me reflect on what we lose when we don't gather to say goodbye. I'll also talk about the rituals I've created in my own life, including marking the end of my marriage and writing an Ode to My Ovaries. Because ceremony isn't just about weddings and funerals. It can help us mark the endings, beginnings, challenges and achievements that make up a life. And it doesn't have to be religious, expensive or elaborate. Sometimes it starts with a few quiet minutes, a question you need to ask yourself, or a small ritual that helps you reset. In this episode, we explore: What makes a ceremony different from a ritual or tradition. Why belonging, community and being witnessed matter. How we can mark grief, divorce, illness and other life transitions. Simple rituals to bring more intention into everyday life. Why you don't need permission to create something meaningful. A question for you: What moment in your life deserves to be acknowledged, honoured or celebrated, but hasn't been? I'd love to hear what comes up for you. The Unstuck Edit is about honest conversations, curious questions and practical ways to create a life that actually feels like you. Why You Keep Saying Yes When You Mean No | The Hidden Cost of People Pleasing

Are you a people pleaser? The kind of person who says yes when you mean no, apologises when you haven't done anything wrong, avoids conflict, puts everyone else's needs first and then wonders where all your time and energy went? In this episode of The Unstuck Edit, I’m exploring the hidden cost of people pleasing. Because being kind and being a people pleaser aren't necessarily the same thing. We talk about where people pleasing can come from, the “good girl” conditioning that can sit underneath it, and what happens when keeping other people comfortable comes at the expense of your own needs, boundaries and authenticity. I also explore the physical signals that can show up when we're overriding ourselves, why boundaries can feel so uncomfortable, and how becoming more conscious of our habits gives us the chance to make different choices. And ultimately, this episode isn't about becoming selfish. It's about being able to tell the difference between genuine generosity and abandoning yourself to keep other people happy. Because your life is yours too. In this episode:• Why people pleasing can become a learned pattern• The difference between kindness and people pleasing• Why saying no can feel so uncomfortable• The hidden cost to your time and energy• Boundaries, guilt and self-trust• Good girl conditioning• How people pleasing can affect your sense of identity• Questions to help you spot your own patterns• Why awareness creates choice Where are you saying yes when you really mean no? And what might change if you gave yourself permission to pause before answering? #TheUnstuckEdit #PeoplePleasing #Boundaries #SelfTrust

Not Every Ending Needs a Lesson

Not Every Ending Needs a Lesson What if not everything that happens to us needs to teach us something? We're often encouraged to find the lesson in every ending, setback or difficult experience. To understand why it happened so we can make sure it never happens again. But what if that search for meaning is sometimes keeping us stuck? In this episode, I explore the idea that not every ending needs a lesson. I share some personal reflections on identity, things I've carried through my life, and an experience during Munay Ki rites that made me question my need to understand exactly what was holding me back before I could let it go. We explore: • Fixing vs tending• Why we can become attached to finding the answer• Letting go without knowing exactly what you're releasing• Ritual and ceremony as ways of marking change• The metaphorical backpack we carry through life• Acceptance, acknowledgement and conscious choice• Why moving forward doesn't always require a dramatic decision Maybe you don't need to figure everything out. Maybe you can simply acknowledge that it happened, honour where you are now, put the bag down and choose what comes next. Not every ending needs a lesson. Sometimes you just get to let it be. The Unstuck Edit is about honest conversations, curious questions and practical ways to create a life that actually feels like you. What if you don't need to fix yourself?

What if you don't need to fix yourself? What if you need to tend to yourself? In this episode of The Unstuck Edit, Gail explores the surprisingly powerful difference between fixing something and tending to it. When we think something needs fixing, we create a binary: broken or fixed, wrong or right, stuck or unstuck. But people aren't broken machines. Our lives evolve. Our bodies change. Our desires change. Sometimes the thing we thought we wanted at the beginning of a journey turns out not to be what we want at all. Gail shares a very personal story about changing her relationship with food, weight, health and her body, and why she's beginning to think about this as tending to her body rather than fixing it. She also revisits the story of her old business, Fashion Fixer, and the realisation that the word “fixer” never quite fitted because her work has never been about fixing other people. It's about helping people see their choices, find their agency and decide what comes next for themselves. So rather than asking: “How do I fix this?” Try asking: “What would it look like to tend to this?” And perhaps the goal isn't to take every area of your life from a 6 to a 10. Maybe it's simply to help one part of your life move from a 6 to a 7. What are you tending to right now? If this is your kind of conversation, I'd love you to join The Unstuck Club where we have space to go deeper and where I share tools for you to try.

Small Brave Edits: Why Radical Change Doesn't Stick

What if you don't need to overhaul your life? What if you just need to make one small change? In this episode of The Unstuck Edit, I'm exploring why radical life overhauls can be so difficult to sustain, and why small, consistent changes can create much more lasting transformation. I share some of the small habits I've introduced into my own life, from Kundalini and journaling to creating an evening routine, time blocking and changing the way I think about difficult experiences. Because getting unstuck isn't always about making a huge leap. Sometimes it's about one small choice. One habit. One different response. One tiny edit to the way you live your ordinary days. We talk about: • Why doing everything at once can leave you overwhelmed• How small habits build momentum• Creating rituals that actually support you• Embodiment and becoming more aware of what your body is telling you• Moving from "things are happening to me" to "things are happening for me"• Why curiosity can be more powerful than perfection• Giving yourself grace when your plans don't go perfectly• How small choices can give you more agency over your life And perhaps most importantly: What is one small thing you could change this week? You don't need a new life. You might just need a new way of doing one part of the life you've already got. How to Get Unstuck: You Don't Need to Know What's Holding You Back

Welcome back to Season 2 of The Unstuck Edit. It's been a minute. After a summer of reflection, turning 50, making some conscious changes around my health and wellbeing, receiving the rites, and generally asking myself some fairly big questions, I've come back to one of the things I've been wrestling with for years: What is it that's actually keeping me stuck? I've spent a lot of time believing that if I could just work out what the block was, I'd finally know how to heal it. But what if I don't need to know? What if I can simply decide that I'm ready to stop carrying it? In this episode, I'm sharing some of the reflections that have been coming up for me recently, from my relationship with food and alcohol to community, embodiment, intuition, turning 50 and the slightly terrifying realisation that there are no guarantees about how much time we have. We explore what happens when we stop rushing into action and instead take a moment to return and root. Because sometimes we're desperate to make a change, but we're not yet feeling safe enough in ourselves to hear what we actually want. And sometimes the most powerful thing we can do isn't another strategy, another answer or another plan. It's coming back into the body. Getting grounded. Listening. And trusting ourselves enough to take the next step. This season, I'm going to be exploring that with you through The Unstuck Edit, bringing together somatic practice, embodiment, self-reflection, intuition, ritual and some honest conversations about what it means to create a life that actually feels like yours. • Turning 50 and the reflections that came with it• Why I'm making conscious changes around health and wellbeing• What a year without alcohol has taught me• The power of community when we're trying to change• My experience of receiving the rites• The surprising realisation that I don't need to identify every block before I can release it• Why feeling safe in your body matters when you're trying to make changes• Somatic practices, intuition and clarity• People pleasing, comparison and entering my "zero f***s" era• Why September is about returning and rooting before rushing into action• The importance of returning to the practice when life inevitably gets in the way• And the question I'm leaving you with: What is your why? Because maybe getting unstuck doesn't always begin with figuring everything out. Maybe it begins with coming home to yourself. I'd love to hear from you - What are you ready to put down? And underneath the thing you're trying to change, what's your why? Come and tell me. I love hearing people's stories. how to get unstuck, feeling stuck in life, how to move forward, personal growth, self trust, nervous system regulation, somatic practices, somatic yoga, embodiment, intuition, trusting your intuition, life changes, starting over, new beginnings, people pleasing, self awareness, finding clarity, wellbeing, midlife change
