Why Is It So Hard to Break a Bad Habit?

In this episode of Chaos Development, Marvin Mikle breaks down the three challenges clients have brought to him most over the past 30 days: becoming their best selves, managing stress, and developing positive habits while leaving negative ones behind.  Marvin begins with a difficult part of personal growth that often gets overlooked: the person you're becoming may no longer fit the life you've built. Becoming your best self can mean establishing boundaries, changing your environment, leaving relationships behind, changing careers, or questioning things that have been part of your identity for years. Marvin explains why the people closest to you—and the energy they bring into your life—can have a major influence on who you become.  Then he tackles stress management from a different perspective. Instead of treating all stress as something bad that needs to be eliminated, Marvin argues that growth itself requires stress. The goal is to understand your stress, identify where your energy is going, and develop the ability to navigate life's pressures without allowing them to dominate you.  That includes paying attention to what consumes your attention. News, social media, entertainment, relationships, work, and everyday responsibilities can all compete for your energy. Sometimes managing stress starts by disconnecting from the things that repeatedly leave you anxious, overwhelmed, or emotionally drained. Finally, Marvin explores habits and why trying to eliminate a negative habit while simultaneously forcing a new one can divide your focus. His approach: start building the positive habit first and give it room to replace what no longer serves you.  The episode brings those ideas back to the three foundations of Chaos Development: chaos, energy, and flow state—learning to navigate uncertainty, direct your energy intentionally, and become comfortable operating when you can't control every variable. 00:00 – What clients are struggling with02:00 – Chaos, energy & flow state03:00 – Becoming your best self04:00 – Setting difficult boundaries06:00 – Your five closest people07:30 – Rethinking stress09:00 – Stop trying to eliminate stress11:00 – Where is your energy going?13:00 – Everyday stress & distractions14:00 – Turn off what drains you15:30 – Building better habits17:00 – Replacing negative habits18:30 – Start the good habit first20:00 – The Chaos Development philosophy21:00 – What chaos really means23:00 – Finding your flow state24:00 – Grounding, journaling & movement25:30 – Final thoughts----- Thanks for listening to the Chaos Development Podcast. What's Really Draining Your Energy?

In this episode of Chaos Development, Marvin Mikle explains the philosophy behind his coaching approach and why he believes lasting transformation begins by changing your mindset, protecting your energy, and developing a stronger relationship with your purpose. Drawing from his own transition from the military to Wall Street and eventually into coaching, Marvin discusses how high performers can lose themselves by tying their identity to careers, titles, and external success. He challenges listeners to examine the people, environments, and habits that may be draining their energy and preventing personal growth.  The conversation explores resilience, healing, discipline, purpose, fitness, mindset, emotional health, and learning how to navigate chaos instead of allowing chaos to control you. What is Chaos Development?

The host defines chaos as whatever sits between where you are and where you want to be, using a former pro football player’s difficult transition to everyday life as an example of losing direction for one’s energy. He explains his coaching approach through energy management—diverting energy within “primary chaos” toward needed outcomes—and performance coaching, where high achievers grow into their next level by becoming what they seek. Drawing on his path to becoming a Green Beret, he describes “raising your vibration” to match the frequency of the person you aim to become through training and preparation. Chaos is framed as a confusing, draining environment that steals clarity and energy, and the channel targets entrepreneurs, athletes, artists, and high-level achievers with topics like flow state, planning, rest, and sustaining intense work without being damaged, emphasizing flowing through chaos rather than eliminating it. 00:00 What Is Chaos00:44 Energy Management Basics01:05 Performance Coaching Lens01:43 Become Who You Seek02:32 Why Chaos Feels Messy03:16 Energy Frequency Vibration03:34 Who This Channel Serves04:16 Not Motivation Just Results04:28 Final Takeaways Outro----- Thanks for listening to the Chaos Development Podcast.
