Episode 9: Getting Comfortable with Uncomfortable

Episode 9: Getting Comfortable with Uncomfortable What happens when you stop avoiding the things that make you uncomfortable and start moving toward them? In this episode of Enter the Storyverse, I sit down with Che Rogers, former Princeton football player, model, actor, educator, and one of those substitute teachers students are genuinely excited to see walk through the door. Che's journey has taken him from the football field to the classroom, in front of the camera, and now onto the screen with two independent films on the way. Along the way, he's learned the value of taking chances, trying something new, and being willing to step outside of what's familiar. We talk about football, acting, education, working with young people, and the unexpected lessons Che has picked up throughout his journey. Whether he's talking about his own experiences or offering advice to students, Che brings a thoughtful perspective on growth, confidence, kindness, and how we treat the people around us. By the end of our conversation, Che brings those experiences together with a simple but powerful lesson about what can happen when we're willing to embrace the uncomfortable. Step into Che's world and discover the secret life of a substitute teacher.

Episode 8: Wearing Blackness Like a Badge of Honor

Episode 8: Wearing Blackness Like a Badge of Honor What does it mean to know where you come from while still discovering who you're becoming? In this episode of Enter the Storyverse, I sit down with one of my former students, recent high school graduate Tatem Smith, as she prepares for her next chapter at South Carolina State University, an HBCU. Tatem reflects on her identity as a young Black woman and what it means to wear her Blackness like a badge of honor. We talk about the importance of Black history, the struggles and sacrifices of those who came before her, and the responsibility she feels to honor their legacy through the opportunities she has today. She also shares the lessons she's learned through leadership, including how to communicate with people who see the world differently, why listening can be just as powerful as speaking, and the importance of creating spaces where everyone has the opportunity to feel seen and heard. As her former teacher, I had the opportunity to watch part of Tatem's story unfold. Now, she's getting ready to write the next chapter herself. Step into Tatem's world for a conversation about Black identity, education, leadership, legacy, and a young woman discovering the power of her own voice while honoring the voices that helped make her journey possible.

Episode 7: This Is What It Sounds Like!

Episode 7: This Is What It Sounds Like! What does a life of purpose sound like? In this episode of Enter the Storyverse, I sit down with entrepreneur, DJ, music producer, educator, choreographer, and community leader Jacobie Bluhm. Whether he's teaching in the classroom, coaching dancers, producing music, or building opportunities for others, Jacobie approaches every role with the same mission: to help people discover their potential and find their place. Together, we explore the soundtrack of Jacobie's life—from the people and experiences that shaped him to the faith that continues to guide his journey. He shares what it means to trust the process when life doesn't follow the path you expected, how creativity can become a form of service, and why kindness and inclusion are values worth carrying into every room you enter. One of my favorite moments comes when I ask Jacobie to describe the soundtrack of his life, leading to a conversation about purpose, perseverance, and the people whose voices have helped shape his own. Whether you're an artist, educator, entrepreneur, or someone still figuring out your next verse, this conversation is a reminder that every life has a rhythm, every story has a melody, and every one of us has the opportunity to help someone else find their song. Episode 6: The Hero You Didn't Expect "I'm not going to be the good guy in this story..." Those are the first words we hear in this episode and they become the thread that connects every chapter of John Wells III's remarkable journey. Actor. Educator. Playwright. Comic-Con panel creator. Award-winning author of The Kalib Andrews Chronicles. Above all, John is someone who understands what it means to search for your place in the story. In this episode of Enter the Storyverse, John reflects on growing up in a deeply Christian home, the challenges of coming out, and the long journey toward embracing his authentic identity. Episode 3: Hold My Dr. Pepper

Episode 3 - Hold My Dr.Pepper What do you do when people tell you that you can’t? For educator, activities director, and community leader Ashley Matkins, the answer is simple: Hold my Dr Pepper. In this episode of Enter the Storyverse, Ashley shares the lessons she’s learned from stepping into challenges, proving doubters wrong, and finding the courage to bet on herself when others wouldn’t. Through stories from her career, leadership journey, and involvement in her community, she offers practical insights on confidence, perseverance, and the power of showing up when opportunities arise. Our conversation feels part TED Talk, part life lesson, as Ashley shares strategies for building meaningful connections, creating inclusive spaces, and fostering a sense of belonging wherever you lead. She reflects on her own journey of coming out and how that experience shaped her understanding of inclusion, empathy, and community. One of the most powerful ideas she shares is that “what’s good for my family is good for so many others”—a reminder that when we create systems and spaces that honor people’s humanity, everyone benefits. We explore why community doesn’t happen by accident, how small changes in language and mindset can help people feel seen, and why some of the most impactful leaders are the ones who intentionally make room for others at the table. Whether you’re a student finding your voice, an educator building culture, or someone looking to create stronger connections in your community, Ashley’s message is clear: inclusion isn’t about making exceptions for a few—it’s about building a better experience for everyone. Step into Ashley’s world and discover what can happen when confidence, community, and a little Dr Pepper fuel the journey.
