Depth Charge #19: The Evidence Was a Lie

Send us Fan Mail Depth Charge #19: The Evidence Was a Lie What if the evidence is real… but the conclusion is wrong? In Genesis 37, Joseph’s brothers present Jacob with a blood-stained coat. The evidence seems undeniable: Joseph must be dead. But the evidence wasn't the whole story. In this Depth Charge, we dive into the story of Joseph and discover a powerful pattern that points us toward Christ—the beloved Son who was rejected, suffered, was taken down, and yet was ultimately exalted by God. Joseph's brothers thought they had ended the story. At the cross, it looked like Jesus' story had ended too. But God was writing something they couldn't see. Sometimes the evidence is real. The pain is real. The loss is real. But what we see isn't always the whole story. Follow the scarlet thread from Joseph to Jesus and discover why the evidence is never the end. Scriptural Subject Study Part 1: Ginosko and The Way, Getting To Know

Send us Fan Mail Getting to Know the Scarlet Thread What does it really mean to know God? And what does it mean when Jesus says, “I never knew you”? During our study through the Gospel of Mark, we kept coming back to two words and two ideas: ginosko and the Way. We realized we had been talking about them throughout our studies without stopping to fully uncover what Scripture was showing us. So we decided to go back to the beginning. Back to the garden. Back to the moment when the relationship between God and man was broken. And from there, we're going to follow the scarlet thread of Christ woven throughout Scripture—from the garden to the cross, and from the cross back to the garden. What does it really mean to know God? What does it mean for Christ to know us? And what happened to the Way? In this three-part study, Brent and Jason dig deep into ginosko, the Way, the seed, the Word, the law, sacrifice, the sower, and ultimately the relationship God intended with mankind from the very beginning. This isn't just a Greek word study. It's a journey through Scripture. And this is only the beginning. Part 1 of 3 — Getting to Know the Scarlet Thread Come study with us. DEPTH CHARGE #18 — THE LOVE LEDGER

Send us Fan Mail DEPTH CHARGE #18 — THE LOVE LEDGER How many times have you forgiven somebody? Once? Twice? Ten times? Maybe you’ve stopped counting—or maybe you haven’t. In this Depth Charge, we’re going straight into what Jesus meant when Peter asked, “How oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him?” Jesus didn’t give Peter a number to keep track of. He told him to stop counting. From Peter’s question, to Jesus on the cross crying, “Father, forgive them,” to Paul’s reminder that love “thinketh no evil,” Scripture gives us a picture of a love that doesn’t keep a record of every wrong. So here’s the question: WHAT’S IN YOUR LOVE LEDGER? Whose name is written there? What debt are you still demanding they pay? Maybe it’s time to close the book. This is The Love Ledger. Scriptural Subject Study: He Must Needs Go Through Samaria-

Send us Fan Mail The Living Water: From the Rock to the Samaritan Woman What if the conversation Jesus had with the Samaritan woman at the well began hundreds of years before she ever drew that bucket of water? In this episode of BibleBangers, Jason and Brent follow the scarlet thread from Mount Gerizim and Mount Ebal, through the stones and the Rock that followed Israel into the Promised Land, and into the history of Samaria. We explore the gods of the Old Testament, the dispersion of Israel, and the spiritual history that stood behind the woman Jesus encountered at the well. Then Jesus speaks of something far greater than physical water—living water. From the Rock in the wilderness, to the well in Samaria, to Jesus Christ offering the water that gives everlasting life, the pieces begin to come together. And the story doesn't stop at John chapter 4. We follow it into Acts, where the Gospel goes into Samaria and the ministry of Christ continues among the very people at the center of this story. Come with us as we follow the scarlet thread—from the Rock, to the well, to the Living Water, and into Samaria. Chapter by chapter. Line by line. Verse by verse. DEPTH CHARGE #17 — WHO STARTED YOUR SECOND BIRTH?

Send us Fan Mail DEPTH CHARGE #17 — WHO STARTED YOUR SECOND BIRTH? You had absolutely nothing to do with your first conception. So how much of your second birth starts with you? In 1 Peter 1, Peter takes us into one of the most profound descriptions of the new birth in Scripture. He doesn't begin with what we accomplish for God. He begins with what God has done for us: “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.” — 1 Peter 1:3 Notice the language. “Hath begotten us again.” Peter doesn't describe us as creating our own new birth. He points us to God as the One who begets. You didn't cause your first conception. You didn't give yourself physical life. And Peter describes the new birth in remarkably similar language. But then Peter takes the thought even deeper. He calls us “children of obedience.” He tells us to call upon “the Father.” He speaks of “the brethren.” Something has happened. We haven't merely adopted a new set of beliefs. We've been brought into a family. But what brought about this new birth? Peter takes us all the way back to the language of seed: “Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.” — 1 Peter 1:23 Your first life came through corruptible seed. Your flesh grows old. Your body eventually dies. Peter compares all flesh to grass and the glory of man to the flower of grass. The grass withers. The flower fades. But then comes the contrast: “But the word of the Lord endureth for ever.” Corruptible seed produces a life that eventually withers. But Peter says the new birth comes through INCORRUPTIBLE SEED — by the Word of God. And how does that Word reach us? Peter tells us: “And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.” — 1 Peter 1:25 The Word is preached. We hear it. And somewhere in that process, God does something we could never do for ourselves: He begets us again. And then something begins to appear. Obedience. Holiness. Calling God Father. Love for the brethren. Peter says: “Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren...” — 1 Peter 1:22 Why does Peter call them “brethren”? Because if we have been begotten by the same Father, through the same incorruptible seed, we haven't simply joined the same religion. We've been born into the same family. So perhaps the question isn't merely: “Have you decided to become a Christian?” Peter's language takes us somewhere deeper: “Have you been begotten again?” Because you had absolutely nothing to do with your first conception. So how much of your second birth starts with you? Join us for Depth Charge #17 as we dive into 1 Peter 1 and follow another thread of Scripture pointing us toward the new life we have in Christ. MARK CHAPTER 16 —THE RESURRECTION, THE BREAD, THE LIGHT & THE FIRSTFRUITS

Send us Fan Mail MARK 16 — RESURRECTION, BREAD, LIGHT & FIRSTFRUITS The stone was rolled away. The tomb was empty. But what if the resurrection of Jesus Christ is connected to a much bigger picture that runs throughout Scripture? In Mark 16, Jason and I walk through the chapter line by line and verse by verse, uncovering the spiritual principles surrounding the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ—and following the scarlet thread that leads us from the Passover Lamb to the Firstfruits. Along the way, we uncover some fascinating pictures hidden throughout Scripture. Aaron's rod that budded was placed in the ark—and it didn't simply come back to life. It budded, blossomed, and produced fruit overnight. Inside the ark was also the manna, the bread from heaven. And surrounding that picture in the tabernacle was the light of the candlestick, with its almond-shaped imagery. Resurrection. Bread from heaven. Light. Fruit. Could these ancient pictures be pointing us toward something greater? And what does all of this have to do with Christ being the Firstfruits? Mark 16 isn't just about an empty tomb. It's about life coming from death. It's about the Lamb. It's about the Firstfruits. And it's about what happens when the Firstfruits rise. Come with us as we dig deep into the final chapter of Mark and follow the scarlet thread from the Passover Lamb, through the resurrection, and toward the harvest.
