    It's a question no parent wants to ask. But every parent who has children depending on them financially should. If I die tomorrow, what happens to my children? In this episode, we follow the financial reality of a mother who provides for her children, has a home loan, retirement savings and life cover — but hasn't calculated whether her family would actually be financially protected if she died. We work through life cover, income replacement, outstanding debt, education costs, estate liquidity, beneficiary nominations, wills, retirement fund death benefits and testamentary trusts. We also explore the difference between simply having life insurance and having enough protection to address the actual financial needs of your family. Because the question isn't: "Do I have life cover?" It's: "If my income disappeared tomorrow, what financial gap would my family be left with?" This is where financial planning becomes more than numbers. It's about protection, responsibility and legacy.

    I'm 35 With Nothing Saved for Retirement. Am I Too Late?

    You're 35. You check your retirement statement. And the number isn't anywhere near where you thought it should be. You start comparing yourself to everyone else and wonder: "Have I already messed up?" In this episode, we take a 35-year-old woman with limited retirement savings and work through what starting late can actually look like. We explore compound growth, investment returns, inflation, contribution rates, retirement age, asset allocation, tax-efficient retirement planning and contribution escalation. Most importantly, we separate financial reality from financial panic. You may be behind. But being behind doesn't mean you stop. We calculate what changing your contributions and giving your investments more time could potentially do — while being honest that projections are illustrations, not guarantees. Because retirement planning isn't about comparing your number to someone else's. It's about answering: Where am I now? Where do I want to be? And what needs to change?

In this episode, we follow the financial reality of a woman earning a decent income but struggling to build savings or wealth. We unpack cash flow, lifestyle inflation, debt, fixed and variable expenses, irregular expenses and financial priorities. The problem isn't always that you don't earn enough. Sometimes the problem is that your income already has too many jobs before it reaches you. We work through the numbers, identify the cash-flow gap and show what happens when that gap is deliberately redirected towards emergency savings, debt reduction and long-term investing. Because earning more money doesn't automatically create wealth. What you do with the money you earn matters.

In this episode, we take a realistic South African income of R20,000 and work through what it would actually take to become a homeowner. We look at affordability, deposit, bond repayments, interest rates, transfer costs, municipal costs, insurance, maintenance and the impact of existing debt. But we don't stop at: "How much will the bank lend me?" Because what a bank is willing to lend you and what you can comfortably afford are not always the same thing. We work through the process and arrive at a realistic homeownership outcome. The goal isn't simply to get a bond. It's to become a homeowner without becoming house-poor.
