Beyond the Principal’s Office: Lessons on Life, Learning & Growing Up

What happens when students get to ask their Principal the questions they’ve always wanted to ask? And what do you discover when you meet the person beyond the title? In this episode of Sojourn – Student Voices, Parinika (Grade 9), Parikshit (Grade 9), and Hanvika Attada (Grade 5) step beyond the usual student–Principal conversation for a candid exchange about school, childhood, mistakes, success, dreams, and growing up. The conversation explores what success means beyond marks, why mistakes and failures matter, habits that can shape a student's future, how today's generation is different, and what students sometimes misunderstand about their teachers and school leaders. The Principal also shares what brings her joy, what concerns her about children growing up today, and what she would like to see change in education. And because no conversation with students should be entirely serious, the episode wraps up with a lively rapid-fire round touching on childhood memories, books, everyday favourites, Silver Oaks, and aspirations. It's a conversation that reminds us that behind every role is a person, behind every mistake is an opportunity to learn, and school is about much more than academic achievement—it's also about discovering who you want to become. Growing Up, Figuring It Out

Growing up comes with questions—some easy to ask, some awkward, and some we don't always know how to put into words. So what happens when students get a space to talk about them openly? In this episode of Sojourn – Student Voices, Rana (Grade 7), Vedansh (Grade 9), Dheeraj (Grade 7), and Jayant (Grade 8) join host Vishal for an open and engaging conversation following The Adolescent workshop conducted by the Super Seniors of Silver Oaks International School. From expectations and misconceptions about adolescence to bullying, cyberbullying, anger, friendships, and seeking support, the students reflect on situations that young people encounter while growing up. They discuss the impact words can have on others, why reaching out to trusted adults matters, and how honest communication with parents can prevent small misunderstandings from becoming bigger ones. There are lighter moments too—from gully cricket stories to a rapid-fire round on healthy habits, asking for help, and what could make growing up just a little easier. Candid, thoughtful, and occasionally funny, this episode reminds us that growing up isn't about having all the answers— it's about learning to ask the right questions, communicate openly, and know when to seek support.
