Out of the Depths

The sermon explores Psalm 130 as a journey from personal despair to communal hope, structured around four directional gazes: inward, upward, forward, and around. It begins with the recognition of one's own sin and the resulting 'depths,' urging believers to cry out to God rather than hide. The message emphasizes that while God sees all iniquity, He is a forgiving God who offers plenteous redemption, providing a stable anchor for the soul. This assurance fuels a patient, active hope for God's intervention, modeled by the psalmist's waiting. Finally, the focus shifts outward, encouraging believers to desire the same salvation for others, trusting in God's abundant mercy to redeem all who place their faith in Him.

Give Me Thine Heart (Part 2)

The sermon explores the biblical command to give one's heart to God by examining various negative heart conditions and their corresponding spiritual remedies. It identifies deceit, despising, dying, delaying, double, and despairing hearts as obstacles to a godly life, offering specific scriptural countermeasures such as diligence, devotion, generosity, immediate obedience, singleness of mind, and dependence on God. The teaching emphasizes the urgency of acting on God's will without procrastination and the danger of dividing one's loyalty between worldly pursuits and divine service. Additionally, it addresses the pastoral responsibility of parents to avoid provoking bitterness in their children and encourages believers to trust in God's past, present, and future faithfulness rather than relying on self-sufficiency. The overall tone is instructive and convicting, urging listeners to align their inner dispositions with God's statutes.

Having A Constant Faith

This sermon explores the duality of the Christian experience by contrasting David's confident confrontation of Goliath with his later psalms of distress. The speaker argues that feeling overwhelmed is not a sign of weak faith but a common reality for God's people, citing multiple instances where David cried out to the Lord in despair. By examining 1 Samuel 17 and various Psalms, the message emphasizes that believers should view trials as reproaches against the Lord rather than insurmountable personal failures. The tone is pastoral and vulnerable, encouraging the congregation to reject isolation and instead rely on God as a very present help in times of trouble. The central theme is that faithfulness remains constant even when emotions fluctuate, urging believers to run to the Lord in both moments of strength and weakness.

How Long Lord-Pt. 3

This sermon concludes a study of the book of Habakkuk by focusing on the prophet's final prayer, which centers on the themes of remembering God's past faithfulness and rejoicing in His character despite impending judgment. The preacher explains that Habakkuk looks back to God's actions in the Exodus and the conquest of Canaan to find perspective, acknowledging that God is just in bringing the Babylonians against Judah for their sin. Despite the physical and emotional turmoil of facing inevitable destruction, Habakkuk chooses to trust in God's sovereignty, declaring that he will rejoice in the Lord even if the agricultural harvest fails. The message emphasizes that while the world is under God's wrath, He has remembered mercy through Jesus Christ, who bears that wrath so that believers may receive salvation. The sermon concludes with a call to choose mercy over justice, urging the audience to trust in God's ultimate plan and find joy in their salvation rather than despairing over present circumstances.

How Then Can We Live?

This sermon addresses the human tendency to either despair under the weight of sin or rely on self-righteousness, using Ezekiel 33 to demonstrate that God's justice demands repentance rather than excuse. The central message emphasizes that God takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked but urgently calls them to turn from their evil ways, a call grounded in His sovereign oath and covenant faithfulness. The text distinguishes true repentance from mere regret, defining it as a concrete directional change that involves acknowledging sin, seeking restoration, and trusting in the perfect righteousness of Jesus Christ rather than one's own religious record. By confronting the lie that God's way is unjust, the sermon invites listeners to abandon both despair and pride, pointing instead to the cross where justice is satisfied and mercy is extended to those who turn to Him.

Spiritual Recalibration & Holy Optimism

The sermon explores the concept of "holy optimism," arguing that Jesus consistently disciplined the twelve disciples to shift their focus from immediate circumstances to the eternal character and promises of God. By examining passages in Matthew and John, the message highlights how Jesus used metaphors, such as birds, lilies, and the mustard seed, to correct spiritual myopia and anxiety. The central theme is that true discipleship involves a spiritual recalibration where believers trust God's provision and power, even in the face of persecution or personal failure. This perspective encourages a hopeful, God-centered view of life, where difficulties are seen as opportunities for God's glory rather than sources of despair. The sermon calls the church to embody this ethos by mentoring others to look beyond their current struggles and anticipate the grace and purposes of God.
