    Be not discouraged by scoffers

    ~~~~~ No 32 in the series - The Epistles of Peter. ~~~~~ **Considering 2 Peter 3:1-7** This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance: ....Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts.....But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. *1/ The certainty of scoffers in the last days. 2/ How we are not to be discouraged by them.* **Sermon summary:** This sermon addresses the challenge of maintaining faith in the face of scepticism and ridicule, drawing from 2 Peter 3 to encourage believers not to be discouraged by scoffers. The central message emphasizes that the last days are characterized by those who mock the promise of Christ's return, yet God's people are called to remain steadfast through the power of remembrance. The exposition highlights how believers should stir up their pure minds by recalling biblical truths, such as the flood and the Passover, which serve as historical proofs of God's judgment and salvation. Furthermore, the sermon instructs the audience to rely on the authority of both the Old and New Testaments, rejecting the scoffers' claim that all things continue as they were. Ultimately, the tone is pastoral and fortifying, urging the church to find assurance in the certainty of God's promises and the coming new heavens and earth, rather than yielding to the world's contempt.
    Father and Son at Work
    Preaching from John 5:19-30, Pastor Rockhill addresses the modern skeptical charge that Jesus never claimed to be God. His central burden is to show that although Christ never uttered the exact words "I am God," both His works and His words plainly reveal His divine nature to any audience familiar with the Old Testament Scriptures. Pastor Rockhill traces how Jesus, having healed on the Sabbath, deepens rather than softens the claim of His deity. The Son does nothing apart from the Father, not as a mere puppet but in willing, loving submission, for the Father and the Son are one God. Their common work flows from a perfect, mutual love. Jesus then claims two works that belonged to God alone: giving life and executing final judgment. As the fountain of life, the Son grants eternal life to whom He will, raising the spiritually dead through the Word applied by the Spirit, and as the Son of Man of Daniel 7 He is the perfect, righteous Judge of all the earth. He unfolds the sovereignty of God in salvation, showing the one work of the triune God in regenerating sinners, and points to the coming resurrection with its two outcomes, life or condemnation. Pastor Rockhill closes with a searching pastoral appeal built on the two calls of the Son: the gracious gospel call to repent and believe today, and the sober summons to stand before the Judge at the last day. Far better, he urges, to hear Christ's voice now in faith and pass from death into everlasting life for the glory of God alone.
    The Ark: A Last Days Warning?
    This update explores recent scientific discoveries regarding a boat-shaped rock formation on Mount Ararat, suggesting it may be Noah's Ark, and uses this as a catalyst to discuss the theological parallels between the pre-flood era and the present day. It highlights the widespread wickedness, sexual perversion, and biological mixing of kinds described in Genesis 6 as characteristics that are recurring in modern society through technology and cultural shifts. The Pastor emphasizes the literal nature of biblical prophecy, noting that the announcement of the potential discovery coincided with Rosh Hashanah, the date the Ark is said to have landed, reinforcing the idea that God keeps His promises and warnings. This serves as a pastoral call to recognize the coming judgment and the necessity of finding salvation in Christ, who is depicted as the ultimate ark of escape for believers. Questions Has Noah's Ark really been found, or is the Durupınar formation still just a possible site? Does the Bible actually say Noah's Ark landed on Mount Ararat, or does it say the "mountains of Ararat"? What evidence makes researchers think the boat-shaped formation in Turkey could be Noah's Ark? How closely do the measurements of the Durupınar formation match the dimensions God gave Noah in Genesis? What have ground-penetrating radar and core samples reportedly found inside the formation? Why did God tell Noah to put pitch on both the inside and outside of the Ark? Could preservation have been part of the reason? When Jesus said the last days would be "as the days of Noah," what similarities should Christians actually be watching for? What's the strange mixing described in Genesis 6.
