Paul's Emphatic Rejection of Sin

This lesson examines the moral dangers of pragmatism and utilitarianism, arguing that such reasoning leads believers to justify sin by anticipating divine grace. It analyzes Paul's rhetorical question in Romans 6 to demonstrate that continuing in sin to increase grace is a form of presumption and heresy, rather than a valid theological conclusion. The message contrasts this flawed logic with the biblical truth that God sovereignly brings good out of evil, as seen in the lives of Joseph and Jesus. While God can redeem the worst of human intentions, such as the crucifixion, individuals are never permitted to intentionally commit evil to achieve a good result. The lesson concludes by emphasizing that obedience to God is an intrinsic moral good that reflects His character, regardless of the immediate consequences or worldly calculations.

Why Use a Confession of Faith? (1689 Confession)

This sermon addresses the common objection that a church confession undermines the supreme authority of Scripture, arguing instead that a confession is a necessary aid for understanding and applying biblical truth. By analyzing the 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith, the speaker demonstrates that the document explicitly affirms the Bible as the sole rule of faith and obedience, serving merely as a summary of what the Scriptures reveal. The message emphasizes that without clear definitions of key theological terms, the church becomes vulnerable to subtle heresies and false teachings that use biblical vocabulary to mask erroneous doctrines. Drawing on examples like Arius and modern cultural shifts, the sermon illustrates the danger of undefined concepts such as justice and love, which can be distorted without a confessional framework. Ultimately, the speaker urges the congregation to view the confession not as a rival authority but as a tool for contending for the faith, ensuring that the church remains healthy, doctrinally sound, and capable of identifying error in a complex world.

What it means to deliver someone unto Satan

This sermon examines the theological meaning of delivering a believer to Satan as a form of church discipline, rooted in 1 Corinthians 5. It distinguishes between struggling with sin and persisting in unrepentant, unacknowledged offenses such as fornication, covetousness, and heresy, which require exclusion from the fellowship. The teaching contrasts the spiritual protection found within the church, described as a hedge of God's care, with the domain of Satan, where the excluded individual is left vulnerable to spiritual attack. This discipline is presented not as an act of malice but as a necessary measure to protect the congregation from corruption and to prompt the offender toward repentance and restoration. The sermon emphasizes that the ultimate goal of such severe measures is the salvation of the spirit and the preservation of the church's purity.

2. Jesus the King is born

This sermon examines the narrative of Jesus' birth in Matthew 1, emphasizing four key theological truths: Jesus' full humanity, his supernatural conception by the Holy Spirit, his role as the savior of his people from sin, and the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy. The sermon argues that Jesus' genuine human nature was essential for his sacrificial work and intercession, countering historical heresies that denied his flesh. By analyzing the context of Isaiah 7:14, the message refutes the idea of a 'double fulfillment' in Ahaz's time, asserting instead that the virgin conception was the definitive realization of the Immanuel prophecy. A Good Minister of Christ

This sermon explores the characteristics of a faithful minister of Jesus Christ by examining 1 Timothy 4:6-7, emphasizing the role of service and spiritual nourishment. It argues that a good minister must actively publish the truth to counteract the natural human tendency to forget God's blessings and the prevalence of false teachings. The message highlights the necessity of pointing exclusively to Christ rather than self, ensuring that the congregation is fed with the timeless words of faith and good doctrine. Furthermore, it stresses the protective duty of rejecting profane fables and heresies to safeguard the flock from spiritual harm. It urges believers to maintain a high view of the church and to exercise themselves in godliness as a defence against deception.
