    Elijah Has Come

Mark 9:9–13 teaches that Jesus' path to glory was an intentional, voluntary, and substitutionary path that necessarily required suffering and death before resurrection. By commanding the disciples to keep the Transfiguration secret until after He rose, Jesus establishes that His glory cannot be rightly understood or proclaimed apart from the cross. Furthermore, by explaining that Elijah has already come through the rejected and martyred ministry of John the Baptist, Jesus reveals that suffering is the scripturally appointed lot for both the forerunner and the Messiah. This passage emphasizes that Christ's suffering was not an accidental tragedy or a failure of God's plan, but the ordained means to bear the punishment for sinners, offering instruction that true discipleship and the path of faith involve following a crucified Savior whose victory is firmly declared in His resurrection.

The Reformers- To Avert from Men God's Wrath

This sermon explores the theological foundations of the Reformation through the lens of John Hus's hymn, "To Avert from Men God's Wrath," contrasting the true gospel of Christ's atonement with the false doctrines of the medieval church. The central message emphasizes that humanity's peril is God's wrath, which is averted only by the sacrificial death of Jesus, rejecting the notion of merit-based salvation or the sale of indulgences. The text highlights the necessity of self-examination and faith in Christ alone, drawing on the example of martyrs like Hus who defended the sufficiency of Scripture and the priesthood of all believers. By examining the historical context of persecution and the spiritual danger of relying on human works, the sermon calls for a sober recognition of sin and a reliance on the cleansing power of Christ's blood. The tone is convicting and instructional, urging believers to guard against spiritual complacency and to live in gratitude for the grace that delivers them from wrath and enables them to love their neighbors.

The Doctrine of the Trinity (Part Two)

(AI Generated Summary) This lesson examines the historical development of Trinitarian belief in the early church, specifically during the second century, to demonstrate that the doctrine was not a later invention but a foundational conviction of the apostolic era. By analyzing the writings of Clement of Rome, Irenaeus, Justin Martyr, and Polycarp, the study highlights how early Christians maintained a rigid monotheism while simultaneously affirming the distinct personhood and deity of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The presentation emphasizes that this 'Trinitarian consciousness' was evident in baptismal formulas, liturgical worship, and apologetic defenses against charges of atheism from Roman authorities. The speaker argues that these historical records refute revisionist claims that the Trinity was codified only in the fourth century, showing instead that the church possessed a clear conceptual understanding of the triune God from its inception.
