    Walter Urbon joins after USC baseball advances to first super regional since 2005

    The Dedeaux Download Podcast returns with Shotgun Spratling and podcast co-host Kasey Kazliner breaking down USC baseball's unreal run through the loser's bracket in the College Station Regional, winning four games in a row to be able to take the title and advance to the program's first super regional since 2005. At the end of the show, the podcasting duo also previews this weekend's Chapel Hill Super Regional where USC is two wins away from a trip to the College World Series in Omaha. But in between, special guest USC freshman outfielder Walter Urbon joins the show to talk about the wild weekend in Texas where the Trojans dropped their NCAA tournament opener in heartbreaking fashion to Texas State only to have that light a bonfire under the Trojans. USC's offense caught absolute fire, scoring 55 runs in four blowout wins to take home the regional. "It kind of felt like we were playing and scoring and I didn't even know who we were playing against," Urbon says. "We just went and scored runs and beat them." Urbon also discusses the atmosphere in Blue Bell Park where the home-standing Texas A&M fans didn't have much to cheer about the final two nights of the regional as the Trojans thumped the Aggies twice, including how USC knew they were going to take care of business once it forced the winner-take-all Game 7 "After we did that that [Sunday] night with their fans there, we had zero doubt," Urbon says. "We were totally going to win. We just fed off the energy." Urbon also discusses his journey this season from the unfamiliar territory of not playing every day to getting his chance because of an injury and then running with it and never looking back. The Los Angeles native also discusses his defense and how an activity like the Brazilian dance fighting exercise capoeira helps him stay grounded and athletic. Prior to Urbon's appearance, Shotgun and Kasey break down the regional win and what it means for the Trojans as they note three positives, including a full roster of players stepping up and quieting some of their critics. They also look at the loss of pitching coach Sean Allen after he was named the next head coach at Lamar...three days after the Trojans eliminated Lamar from the NCAA tournament.

    Which Trojan football players have the most to prove in 2026?

    In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham, RJ Abeytia and intern India Otto are back in studio taking a look at which Trojan football players have the most to prove in 2026. Head coach Lincoln Riley brings 15 starters back and has a new-look defense with Gary Patterson calling the shots on that side of the ball, but to make that elusive run at the College Football Players there are guys on the roster that will need to turn their potential into production. On the offensive side USC brings back a lot of proven production, from quarterback Jayden Maiava to the entire starting offensive line and a pair of talented tailbacks in Waymond Jordan and King Miller. The biggest question mark will be with the pass catchers and which wide receivers and tight ends can step up and become active targets for Maiava to get the ball too. The Trojans have the most to prove on the defensive side of the ball, especially in the front-seven where the pash rush and run stopping were underwhelming last season. Linebacker Desman Stephens looks the part, but can he step up and be an All-Conference type of performer for the Trojans? Defensive end Kameryn Crawford is another guy with talent to spare, but can he put up double-digit sack numbers this season?     Playoffs or bust? Our 2026 USC football schedule overview

    In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and RJ Abeytia are back in studio taking a look at the challenging 2026 USC football schedule to see what it will take for this Trojan squad to make the College Football Playoffs for the very first time. Head coach Lincoln Riley is confident he has the right team in place to make a championship run, and we take a high-level look at the schedule with notes on each of USC's opponents. With the Fighting Irish absent, the path to the playoffs should be easier, but USC is still facing off against three of the projected top-5 teams in the country and will need to win at least one of those games to make the postseason tournament. Defending national champion Indiana will be a tough road test and uber-talented Oregon and Ohio State both visit the Coliseum. USC head coach Andy Stankiewicz joins the show to talk about the Trojans making it to back-to-back regionals for the first time since 2001-2002, his reaction to not being a regional host despite a No. 9 RPI as well as what the Trojans have to do better to take the next step and make it to a super regional after being in a regional final last year. They also talk with USC southpaw ace Mason Edwards about his incredible season that earned him Big Ten Pitcher of the Year honors Tuesday. Shotgun and Kasey take a look at the Trojans' series loss in Eugene where every game was decided by a run, including two games going into extra innings with USC winning the opener 2-1 in 1 1 innings, dropping the middle game 4-3 and then losing a heartbreaker 6-5 in 14 innings on a walk-off two-out suicide squeeze. Shotgun and Kasey also take a look at where the Trojans stands in the rankings and key resume metrics, including looking at their regional host potential (or lack thereof).
