At the U.S.-Mexico border Federal prosecutors say agents at the San Ysidro Port of Entry found 69 live animals hidden in taped-shut pillowcases inside a concealed compartment of a Volkswagen. The animals included lizards, venomous vipers, caimans, a baby crocodile, and a snake. Three caimans died after nearly 24 hours in the vehicle. Survivors were taken to the San Diego Zoo. Georgina Bribiesca Chavez and an alleged partner have pleaded not guilty to wildlife-trafficking charges.
