    Isolated Christianity is Impossible

    12 For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ.--13 For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one bodyJews or Greeks, slaves or freeand all were made to drink of one Spirit.--14 For the body does not consist of one member but of many.--15 If the foot should say, Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body, that would not make it any less a part of the body.--16 And if the ear should say, Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body, that would not make it any less a part of the body.--17 If the whole body were an eye, where would be the sense of hearing? If the whole body were an ear, where would be the sense of smell?--18 But as it is, God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as he chose.--19 If all were a single member, where would the body be?--20 As it is, there are many parts, yet one body.--21 The eye cannot say to the hand, I have no need of you, nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you.--22 On the contrary, the parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable,--23 and on those parts of the body that we think less honorable we bestow the greater honor, and our unpresentable parts are treated with greater modesty,--24 which our more presentable parts do not require. But God has so composed the body, giving greater honor to the part that lacked it,--25 that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another.--26 If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together.--27 Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.--28 And God has appointed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, helping, administrating, and various kinds of tongues.--29 Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles?--30 Do all possess gifts of healing? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret?--31 But earnestly desire the higher gifts.     Jesus Entrusts His Personal Reputation to You and Me

    13 Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, Who do people say that the Son of Man is?--14 And they said, Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.--15 He said to them, But who do you say that I am?--16 Simon Peter replied, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.--17 And Jesus answered him, Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah!     1 Now Peter and John were going up to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour.--2 And a man lame from birth was being carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple that is called the Beautiful Gate to ask alms of those entering the temple.--3 Seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, he asked to receive alms.--4 And Peter directed his gaze at him, as did John, and said, Look at us.--5 And he fixed his attention on them, expecting to receive something from them.--6 But Peter said, I have no silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you.     21 Then Peter came up and said to him, Lord, how often will my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? As many as seven times?--22 Jesus said to him, I do not say to you seven times, but seventy-seven times.--23 Therefore the kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who wished to settle accounts with his servants.--24 When he began to settle, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents.--25 And since he could not pay, his master ordered him to be sold, with his wife and children and all that he had, and payment to be made.--26 So the servant fell on his knees, imploring him, Have patience with me, and I will pay you everything.--27 And out of pity for him, the master of that servant released him and forgave him the debt.--28 But when that same servant went out, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii, and seizing him, he began to choke him, saying, Pay what you owe.--29 So his fellow servant fell down and pleaded with him, Have patience with me, and I will pay you.--30 He refused and went and put him in prison until he should pay the debt.--31 When his fellow servants saw what had taken place, they were greatly distressed, and they went and reported to their master all that had taken place.--32 Then his master summoned him and said to him, You wicked servant!
