Fall in love.
I was looking for podcasts about the cult of "thrifting" - thrift shopping and thrift store culture, that is, when I stumbled upon this. I had a sneaking suspicion by the description that this would be right up my alley, and boy, has it gone above and beyond my expectations.
Sally Ann is a captivating host, with a sultry-nerdy NPR voice not unlike that of Ana Gasteyer in the Saturday Night Live 'Delicious Dish' sketch from the late 90s.
Apparently she's on some little indie radio station in Canada, but she may as well be from another planet - Planet Awesome.
There's something so utterly charming, so underground and cool yet so very familiar about this show, and it warms my heart to know that it exists in 2011, on the internet, though I swear it came out of some Evergreen student's dorm in 1993, on cassette.
If you are a diehard pop culture junkie, on the nostalgia tip, you will love this show.
If you think 'Mama's Family' is a cult classic, you will love this show.
If you love so-called guilty pleasures, you will love this show.
If you think the12" 9 and a half minute Jellybean Benitez "SUPAHOT!!" remix version is a lost art, you will love this show.
It's everything from DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince's squeaky-clean ode to S&M to a woman's workout instructional record, set to the theme of '9 to 5.'
My only criticism is that she only seems to do one hour-long show a month, though she says it's broadcast weekly on the radio. Maybe they're slow to post episodes to iTunes.
