Steelers Football - The Terrible Podcast - Episode 1300

    7/3/2020

Season 10, Episode 123 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can and in this Friday show, which was recorded late Thursday night, Alex Kozora and I get right to talking about the 2020 NFL Preseason now being expected to be cut in half. We also discuss the Thursday report that training camp roster are likely to be cut to 80 or fewer players because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Alex and I debate quit a few of things the NFL is still expected to discuss before the start of the preseason. We discuss if the NFL will push back the deadline date for franchise tagged players to be extended and if it would a big deal if that happened.

The Steelers now have a little less than two weeks to get outside linebacker Bud Dupree signed to an extension barring the deadline date being pushed back. We discuss his situation in addition to how it might ultimately play a role in what the Steelers do in the first-round of the 2021 NFL Draft if they can’t learn a lot about rookie outside linebacker Alex Highsmith in 2020. What kind of snap totals is the high side for Highsmith to play in 2020? We discuss.

The New England Patriots have signed quarterback Cam Newton to a one-year, $7.5 million contract and that has a lot of Steelers fans upset. With so many questions and comments coming in to the site and show about Newton’s contract details and the Steelers not attempting to sign him, Alex and I dedicate a segment of this podcast to going over the details of not only his contract and low salary cap charge, but also why there was no way he was going to land with the Steelers.

Former Steelers running back Jerome Bettis recently commented on the 2020 Steelers and his expectations for them so Alex and I break down all that he said.

Season 10, Episode 122 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can and in this Tuesday show, Alex Kozora and I get right to talking about the top 10 head coach rankings that CBS Sports released on Monday and where Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin is slotted.

Steelers tackle Zach Banner had a few interesting things to say during a Monday radio interview so Alex and I discuss a few of his comments in addition to talking some about his upcoming training camp battle with fellow tackle Chukwuma Okorafor.

Talking about Banner and Okorafor makes it easy for Alex and I to slide into a pre training camp preview of the Steelers offensive line. We discuss the eight players expected to make the 53-man roster in addition to the other offensive linemen under contract potentially battling for practice squad spots. Would the Steelers have any interest in signing free agent tackle Kelvin Beachum? We discuss that possibility briefly as well.

Alex and I move to discuss a few posts he’s done the last few days with one of them being about defensive tackle Daniel McCullers. We discuss if McCuller’s roster spot is guaranteed and more.

The New England Patriots have signed veteran quarterback Cam Newton so that transaction gets the attention of Alex and myself briefly.

As my pass protection series on Steelers rookie running back Anthony McFarland Jr. starts to wind down, Alex and I discuss what the findings have been from the nine 2019 Maryland games that have been reviewed so far.

    6/26/2020

Season 10, Episode 121 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can and in this Friday show, Alex Kozora and I get right to talking about the 2020 Hall of Fame game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Dallas Cowboys getting pushed back to 2021 along with the enshrinement ceremonies. We discuss what else the NFL has announced this week and their advertising plans and revenue possibilities.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin had a lot to say on Tuesday during his Zoom media session so Alex and I go through the primary talking points from that one-by-one. We spent a lot of time talking about the left guard and nose tackle spots based on what Tomlin said on Tuesday. Will defensive tackle Daniel McCullers make the roster this year?

The Steelers have yet to sign any of their 20290 draft picks to date so Alex and I talk a little about that topic. We move on to discuss Steelers wide receiver Diontae Johnson adding some weight this offseason and safety Minkah Fitzpatrick participating recently in an NFL Gamepass film breakdown session and what we learned from it. We also discuss my ongoing series that covers all of Johnson’s 2019 pass targets.

We also roll through some Steelers team continuity numbers I compiled this past week dating back to 2010.

    6/23/2020

Season 10, Episode 120 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can and in this Tuesday show, Alex Kozora and I get right to talking about what all Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger had to say recently about his rehab and more. We also talk about what one specific NFL Network analyst said about Roethlisberger on Monday.

Former Steelers wide receiver Martavis Bryant was back in the news on Monday so Alex and I discuss whats new with him and if he has any shot at resurfacing in Pittsburgh should he ultimately be reinstated by the commissioner.

What kind of growth did Steelers wide receiver James Washington have in 2019, his second season in the NFL? Alex gives an update on that.

With time ticking down until the Steelers report to training camp, Alex and I continue our position group look-aheads and breakdowns by discussing the team’s tight ends on the current 90-man roster. We talk extensively about Vance McDonald, Eric Ebron, Zach Gentry Christian Scotland-Williamson and Kevin Rader. We also talk some about the team’s heavy usage of tackle as a tight end and more.

A little late breaking news from head coach Mike Tomlin is also included in this show as he updated the status of two positions, left guard and nose tackle, and how Matt Feiler and Tyson Alualu are the players to get first cracks at being the starters at those spots, respectively, when training camp gets underway.

We close out this Tuesday podcast by answering a few more emails we’ve received from listeners.

Here’s the scoop

After searching for and listening to many different Steelers related podcasts, I’ve found the only one worth listening to consistently.

The detail that Alex and Dave put into their craft is amazing - these guys are comprehensive.

If you are looking for a fair, non-biased and comprehensive podcast on everything Steelers related, look no further.

Best Independent Steelers Analysis “Team”

If there is one reason you should listen to Steelers Podcast over all others, is because Dave employs a “team” of objective football analysis to covers all aspects of a football team. Where others have one one or two people or just brings on a guest or two and do not have a great team to provide back up and research. Dave’s team does it all in-house and does not sugar coat, while remaining a giant Steelers fan.

Once you listen, you will understand and listen.

PS: Dave, I love when you say, “However comma.....” 😊
