    * Unidentified at Zurich Film Festival 2025 *

I already reviewed the 21st edition of the Zurich Film Festival in 3 previous Gimme a Beats: in November 2025, with a focus on the movie Hedda, in January 2026, with a focus on the movie Cuerpo Celeste and in March 2026, with a focus on the movie Calle Malaga. As listeners of the Gimme a Beat know, after exploring the *female factor* of the Zurich Film Festival, I adapt my radio shows to the releases of the movies I focus on. This year, I have seen more than 30 movies, and had the opportunity to interview 4 female filmmakers and 1 music composer. To make sure that these movies receive the attention they deserve, I created several Gimme A Beats, each focused on one movie and, when possible, aired in alignment with their Swiss cinema release (not all of the movies will be released in Switzerland). Considering the number of movies I've seen, I will not be reviewing all the movies and posting them on the Gimme A Beat page. But I will continue posting the reviews after tonight's show, since most of the movies from the festival are coming to the cinemas next year. This year again, I will be focusing on my highlights only. To find them, you should follow the search with the following hashtags: #zff #zff2025 #highlight #gimmeabeat. In tonight's Gimme A Beat, I will be focusing on one of my movie highlights: Unidentified, directed and written by Haifaa Al Mansour, one of Saudi Arabain's first female and best-known directors. This will be my last Gimme a Beat with the focus on the Zurich Film Festival 2025.  Unidentified is not yet available on streaming platforms, but I just found out that it will be released in US cinemas on June 19th, so hopefully we will also be able to see it in Swiss cinemas soon. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tune in to Gimme a Beat tonight (18.05.2026) to hear my review and impressions of the movie Unidentified, featuring an interview with director Haifaa Al Mansour, music by Saudi Arabian band Seera, and a selection of songs by female artists from across the region. I will also include the soundtrack from Mary Shelley, 2017's movie directed by Haifaa Al Mansour, composed by Amelia Warner.   Tune in for... * Calle Malaga at Zurich Film Festival 2025 *

I already reviewed the 21st edition of the Zurich Film Festival in two previous Gimme a Beats: in November 2025, with a focus on the movie Hedda, and in January 2026, with a focus on the movie Cuerpo Celeste. As listeners of the Gimme a Beat know, after exploring the *female factor* of the Zurich Film Festival, I adapt my radio shows to the releases of the movies I focus on. In tonight's Gimme A Beat, I will be focusing on one of my movie highlights: Calle Malaga, directed and written by one of my favorite filmmakers, Maryam Touzani. The movie soundtrack was composed by Freya Arde, a film composer and music producer. Calle Malaga has been playing in the French-speaking part of Switzerland since February 25th, coming to Swiss German cinemas on April 9th, and the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland on April 30th. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tune in to Gimme a Beat tonight (16.03.2026) to hear my review and impressions of the movie Calle Malaga, featuring an interview with director Maryam Touzani, movie soundtrack composed by Freya Arde, the central song *Toda Una Vida* by Maria Dolores Pradera, and my selection of wonderful Spanish songs by female artists in a similar style.     Tune in for... * Unfiltered with Naveni *

Back in 2024, while scrolling through my social media, I came across Longstreet Unchained concerts (which I immediately renamed Longstreet unplugged as they reminded me of the original: MTV Unplugged). Longsteer Bar, where these concerts are held, used to be one of my favorite spots in Zurich, back in the day when I was still DJ-ing and going out. So, I was glad to see it still reinventing itself, attracting new crowds. One of the concerts caught my attention not only because it was fun, charming, and bubbly, at the same time, but because of the singer, Naveni, and her talent. I haven't heard of her before, so I did a bit of research. Naveni is a 23-year-old self-taught singer-songwriter and producer from Switzerland with Indian-English heritage. Even though there were some technical issues, and she seemed a bit nervous, she completely took over the stage and the audience. She switched between Swiss German and English, making jokes about herself and explaining the songs she was performing. The gig was not perfect, but it was genuine, entertaining, and fun, while clearly showcasing Naveni's talent as an artist and performer. Afterwards, I reached out to Naveni for an interview. It took us a while to find a time that worked for both of us, but finally, in March 2025, we got together for the video call and interview. We talked about everything: her new album (currently in the making), her upbringing, finding her path to becoming the person and the artist she is today, and even her hair. The interview was honest, unfiltered, and delightfully human - my favorite kind.  -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tune in to Gimme a Beat tonight (16.02.2026) to hear all of this and more, while listening to Naveni's music, including her brand new single💙: Better Man, released on Friday, February 13th, 2026, and her selection of songs by female artists.   Tune in for... * Cuerpo Celeste at Zurich Film Festival 2025 *

In November 2025 - Gimme a Beat, I reviewed the 21st edition of the Zurich Film Festival. This year, I have seen more than 30 movies this year, and I had the opportunity to interview 4 female filmmakers and 1 music composer. As in previous years when I had this many interviews, I break my review of the Zurich Film Festival into several Gimme A Beats, the second one happening tonight, and a few others later on. In most cases, and when it's possible, I will adapt my radio show to the Swiss screenings of movies, to make sure that these movies receive the attention they deserve. Considering the number of movies I've seen, I will not be reviewing all the movies and posting them on the Gimme A Beat page. But I will continue posting the reviews after tonight's show, since most of the movies from the festival are coming to the cinemas next year. In tonight's Gimme A Beat, I will be focusing on one of my movie highlights, Cuerpo Celeste, directed and written by Nayra Ilić Garcia.  Unfortunately, this awesome movie still doesn't have a local Swiss distributor, so I don't know when it is going to come to Swiss cinemas. But I am hoping that this will change soon, and maybe tonight's show will help. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tune in to Gimme a Beat tonight (19.01.2026) to hear more about the Zurich Film Festival, a review of the movie Cuerpo Celeste, featuring an interview with director Nayra Ilić Garcia, and my selection of songs by Chilean female artists.     Tune in for... * Representing 21st Century RnB - Part II *

Back in January 2024, Rolling Stone released their 100 Greatest R&B Songs of the 21st Century. The list created lots of buzz; some people loved it, others pointed out what was missing, and the artists featured in it, celebrated. I have always been a huge fan of R&B, so I decided to do my own response. In January 2024, I created my own list and dedicated the whole Gimme a Beat to it.  Since the list was very long, I broke the show into the two parts, but never got to the second part. This December, I decided to go back to the 2nd part of that list. Considering that R&B, with funky, contagious beats is all about brining out a plethora of emotions, comforting, happy and nostalgic vibes, I thought it is very appropriate for my Xmas 🎄🎅 🎄show of 2025. This is also the time of reflection and for me putting this list together was like walking down the memory lane, most of these songs reminded me of the past times, boyfriends, lovers, and fun times with friends. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you are looking for catching these feels this Xmas🎄🎅🎄, tune in to Gimme A Beat (15.12.2025) tonight to hear my selection (Part II) of the 21st Century R&B songs featuring Rihanna, Jill Scott, Tweet, Ella Mai, Janelle Monae, Kelis, Jessie Ware, Jorja Smith, Raye and many more. Tune in for… Representing 21st Century RnB - Part II   with a click-to-play Spotify or Deezer playlist (for the songs played in the show and available on the streaming platforms) from 22:00 - 00:00 on: webradio lora Kisses, Babymonster ————————————————————————– For the info about old shows, please go to previous entries Some platforms may not show the links. * Hedda at Zurich Film Festival 2025 *

In 2025, Zurich Film Festival celebrated its 21st year. Over 11 days, the festival attracted an impressive 135’000 visitors. A total of 115 films were shown, including 140 World and European Premiers, 16 of which were Swiss movies. The whole city was buzzing with good vibes, filled not just with movie lovers, but with international and national stars. First held in 2005, Zurich Film Festival established itself very quickly on the national and international film festival scene. The formula for its success it's probably a mix of an attractive location: an international but small city of Zurich; a great selection of movies and different programs/events like ZFF Masters, ZFF for Kids, and a few others. I loved that this year most of the movies were shown in the cinemas I prefer: Frame, Corso, and Arthouse. I love these cinemas for their quality and awesome location (close to my house 😎). Looking at all these years, I have been visiting or reviewing (since 2017) Zurich Film Festival. The way I like to explain its success is to quote/paraphrase the sentence I found in the industry booklet a few years ago. Basically, the organizers agree on a few basics for a successful film festival: “Content is king, Collaboration is key and Encounters among creative folks are essential”. I am glad to confirm that even after many years, the organizers are still taking “these basics” seriously while developing the festival further and, most importantly, in the right direction. This is why I keep coming back and reviewing Zurich Film Festival. From the perspective of Gimme A Beat, exploring *the female factor* of the festival is easy. Zurich Film Festival always provides a significant number of female stories and movies from female directors, and a good balance of different genres, aspiring filmmakers, and (potential) blockbusters. As listeners of Gimme A Beat (and my family and friends) already know, having a busy schedule is business as usual for me, even if it felt that 2025 was busier than ever before, and with so many great movies, definitely a pleasure. For me, Zurich Film Festival is all about watching movies. My most enjoyable moment is sitting in the dark cinema, fully immersed in the storyline. This year, even though many fabulous events were happening on the festival grounds, I haven't attended/seen any of them. Most importantly, I have seen more than 30 movies this year, and I had the opportunity to interview 4 female filmmakers and 1 music composer. With so much more material, I have decided to dedicate several whole Gimme A Beats to Zurich Film Festival, the one happening tonight and a few others later on. In most cases, I will adapt my radio show to the Swiss screenings of movies, to make sure that these movies receive the attention they deserve. Considering the number of movies I've seen, I will not be reviewing all the movies and posting them on the Gimme A Beat page. But I will continue posting the reviews after tonight's show, since most of the movies from the festival are coming to the cinemas next year. This year again I will be focusing on my highlights only. To find them, you should follow the search with the following hashtags: #zff #zff2025 #highlight #gimmeabeat. In tonight's Gimme A Beat, I will be focusing on one of my movie highlights, Hedda, directed and co-written by Nia DaCosta, with a soundtrack composed by Hildur Guðnadóttir. Since the 29th of October, the movie has been available on Amazon Prime.  -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tune in to Gimme a Beat tonight (17.11.2025) to hear my impressions of the Zurich Film Festival, the reviews of the movie Hedda, featuring interviews with Nia DaCosta and Hildur Guðnadóttir, as well as the movie soundtrack composed by Hildur.   Tune in for... * Juana Aguirre at Primavera Sound 2025 *

Primavera Sound (commonly referred to as simply Primavera) is an annual music festival with the main location in Parc del Fòrum, a park situated directly at the Mediterranean seafront in Barcelona, Spain. The festival takes place between the end of May and the beginning of June every year since 2001. In addition to the best-known edition in Barcelona, since 2012, Primavera Sound has expanded to Primavera Sound Porto Edition as well. Before 2025, Primavera Sound festivals were organized in several locations outside of Barcelona and Porto; this year, Primavera Tours are scheduled in Madrid and Barcelona in June, July, and September. I already dedicated one show to Primavera Sound 2025, just before the radio summer break, featuring an interview with Marta Pallarès, Head of Press and Corporate Relations at Primavera Sound, and a selection of songs from female artists who performed at the festival and were my highlights. Check it out here.  In tonight's show, I am going back to Primavera Sound Barcelona 2025 with a different focus. During Primavera Sound 2025 in Barcelona, I saw many great gigs. Thanks to Instagram being able to host 20 videos per post, I was able to create one post per day, and here they are for day 1, day 2, and day 3. You can also see my reviews via the Gimme a Beat Facebook search. One of my highlights of the festival was Juana Aguirre, an über-talented Argentinian artist, singer-songwriter, composer, and producer, whose music is a mix of experimental, folk, indie, and Latin American folklore. I discovered Juana through Primavera's program, and from the moment I discovered her, I didn't stop listening to her. Her music made me feel emotional, happy, sad, and melancholic, all at once. I was excited to finally see her live for the 1st time, and her powerful, intense performance exceeded expectations, effortlessly feeding the souls and minds of the audience who attended it. A few days before, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Juana for an interview. We talked about her beginnings, her latest album anónimo, how it differs from Claroscuro, her first album, and the music and artists that inspire her. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tune in to Gimme A Beat tonight (18.08.2025) to hear my interview with Juana Aguirre, featuring her music and female artists who inspire her, plus my impressions of her performance at Primavera Sound Barcelona 2025. * Marta Pallares – Head of Press and Corporate Relations – at Primavera Sound 2025 *

Primavera Sound (commonly referred to as simply Primavera) is an annual music festival with the main location in Parc del Fòrum, a park situated directly at the Mediterranean seafront in Barcelona, Spain. The festival takes place between the end of May and the beginning of June, every year since 2001. The 2025 edition of Primavera Sound has been an edition of superlatives: maximum attendance with 293,000 visitors and more than 900 journalists from around the world (me included 🌟), people from 136 countries and 311 performances. The main location of the festival is still Parc del Fòrum, but during the whole week, the whole of Barcelona is buzzing, celebrating the festival. There are Primavera a la Ciutat (which means "Primavera in the City" in Catalan) showcases on the iconic venues of Barcelona, as Sala Apolo, Razzmatazz, and Laut, allowing music to resonate beyond the main locations. And there are many networking opportunities and conferences for the music professionals and as part of the Primavera Pro offering. I attend some of these, but not many. During the day, I love exploring Barcelona, soaking up its unique vibe outside of the festival, and meeting with the local people. And writing daily reviews 😎! As many of the listeners of Gimme a Beat know, I've been following Primavera Sound for a while now, for several reasons. Not only that Primavera always have an impressive line-up, and it is happening in Barcelona, one of my favourite European towns, but this festival has been a leader in the gender-balanced line-up, and the role model for inclusion and diversity, not just in Europe but worldwide.  And this, by default, makes Primavera Sound a perfect festival for Gimme A Beat. But it took me a while to start reviewing Primavera. The first time I attended and reviewed the festival was in 2023. I know, I know, it is a bit embarrassing, but I wrote the detailed reasoning in my Primavera Sound 2023 review.  This year, I decided to go back, and I was so happy that I did. Everything worked perfectly: superb organisation, collaborative weather: sunny but not too warm with a continuous sea breeze; great food, easy-to-move-around festival layout, and perfect location. All of this, combined with friendly and energetic festival-goers, local and international crowds excited to be there, created a unique, unforgettable atmosphere.  In addition to this, the Primavera Sound 2025 achieved a unique milestone: their Three Headliners were three women under the age of 35: Charli XCX, Sabrina Carpenter, and Chapell Roan. This is where the Powerpuff Girls reference is coming from as well, which I thought was a brilliant move, also from the perspective of merch, and this huge Powerpuff Girls statue near the merch stand. With this and an impressive, carefully curated line-up, exploring the *female factor* of Primavera Sound with my Gimme A Beat lenses (or better said sunglasses) was easy. And I returned with enough materials for two shows! Didn't I just write that THIS is a perfect festival for Gimme A Beat?! Even before I arrived, I discovered so many, for me, new artists just by studying the program. And I knew that I would see some of my favourite ones that would move me to the core. And when I got to the official festival, the time seemed to fly by. I would arrive late in the afternoon at the festival ground and leave in the wee morning hours with feet and back pain from all the dancing, standing, and exploring. Still, then tomorrow, as I was recollecting memories and writing a review of the day before, I couldn't wait to go back and do it again. I've seen many great gigs, but thanks to Instagram being able to host 20 videos per post, I was able to create one post per day, and here they are for day 1, day 2, and day 3. You can also see my reviews via the Gimme a Beat Facebook search. Two weeks before the festival, I reached out to Marta Pallarès, Head of Press and Corporate Relations at Primavera Sound. I usually only interview female artists – I've never done something like this before. But given Marta's role at Primavera Sound, a festival that continuously "walks the talk" when it comes to inclusion and diversity, and the impeccable press strategy that shows others how to do it right, I really wanted to speak to her and include her in my Primavera Sound coverage. Honestly, I didn't think that she would say yes, but she did 🎉!  And THIS made my Primavera Sound experience super special even before the festival even began. I learnt a lot in this conversation, from what it means to lead Press and Corporate Relations at Primavera Sound, to how their deep, authentic commitment to diversity drives both artistic credibility and serious business results. (With the impressive line-up, also including 3 female headliners, they were sold out before Xmas 2024).  I also realized something bigger: the magic of Primavera’s strategy and communication approach — where walking the talk isn’t just a slogan — is something we can apply anywhere. Even in industries like tech, where I work too. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tune in to Gimme A Beat tonight (16.06.2025) to hear my impressions of Primavera Sound Barcelona 2025, and an interview with Marta Pallarès, Head of Press and Corporate Relations, and a selection of songs from female artists who performed at the festival and were my highlights.
