    Geekwire Week of 10.19.26

We're back for another edition of Geekwire! Here's what we're discussing this week: We read between the lines of Roger’s recent comments to break down whether Queen + Adam Lambert has quietly run its course and what it signals for the band's touring future.  We react to the recent news of Ian Hill retiring as the longest running member of Judas Priest, his replacement, and his athleticism. Mike Love of the Beach Boys appeared very frail at their recent performance in Nashville. We react to it as well as bandleader John Stamos’ (yes, uncle Jesse) comments on the situation. Aerosmith is headlining a stacked lineup of “friends” for a two-night stand at the Hollywood Bowl. We look over the lineup and react. We take a quick look at the Record Store Day releases and discuss the recent rise in CD sales. The Dead Daisies have tapped Kelly Hansen as their new front man. We discuss him getting the sweetest gig in the business these days. Quiet Riot has captured the rock world with new lead singer John Torra. We give our thoughts on the situation and what it could mean for the band’s future. Metallica wowed Vegas audiences at the premiere of their Life Burns Faster residency at The Sphere. Some incredible visuals. If you’re a High Roller rock/gear collector, you can own a piece of Rick Nielsen history in a current auction. We go over some of the more interesting items. Primer 55 made a surprise appearance on TNA wrestling on their tour stop in San Antonio and our friend and awesome photographer Voltage Junkie was right in the middle of things. The guys over at Hair Metal Chaos make some predictions on the 2027 concert season that may include a Poison return and the unveiling of a new singer for Skid Row. We give our thoughts. . Zinny Zan, while discussing his new Zan/Cody project, dropped a bombshell involving a new Tim Skold/Harry K. Cody Shotgun Messiah album. What could lie ahead? Decibel Geek Conquers the Mountain

The Decibel Geek crew headed to Gatlinburg, Tennessee, for three days of loud music, great people, and unforgettable moments at the Mountain Music Festival—and we’re bringing the whole experience home in this supersized episode! In Episode 680 – Decibel Geek Conquers the Mountain, we recap an incredible weekend filled with killer performances, stacked lineups, memorable setlists, and plenty of surprises. We share which bands blew us away, the people we connected and reconnected with, and what makes this community of rock fans so special. More than anything, the Mountain Music Festival felt like a gathering of friends brought together by the music we love. Huge congratulations and thanks go to Larry Morand, April Lee, and the entire Mountain Music Fest team for building such an awesome weekend and making everyone feel welcome. We also have to give a special shout-out to Mooger Fooger and all the wives—Aaron’s, Mooger’s, and Chris’s—for being part of the adventure and making the weekend even more fun. Music wasn’t the only entertainment happening during the festival. The Punchlines and Backlines comedy shows ran throughout the week, and we made it into Saturday’s show, which included Jason McMaster stepping up to perform comedy. Yes, you read that correctly—and you’ll hear all about it. After the main recap, we have bonus material recorded Saturday during the festival. Aaron goes through his recent CD purchases, we share our thoughts on the weekend up to that point, and turn the conversation toward a candid, behind-the-scenes discussion about Decibel Geek itself. Finally, we close the episode with Geek on the Street, as we wander around the festival asking attendees a series of completely ridiculous rock-related questions. The answers are unpredictable, hilarious, and further proof that rock fans are the best people to hang out with. Altogether, it’s nearly three hours of Mountain Music Festival coverage packed with music talk, festival stories, comedy, community, CD collecting, questionable street interviews, and everything else that happens when Decibel Geek takes over Gatlinburg. Mapping Out The Mountain Music Festival 2026

The Mountain Music Festival 2026 is almost here, and this week we're breaking out the map, studying the schedule, and figuring out exactly how we're going to tackle three days of rock and roll in Gatlinburg! In this episode, Chris and Aaron map out The Mountain, running through the entire three-day festival schedule and sharing the bands and performances we're most looking forward to seeing. With multiple stages running throughout the weekend, there are plenty of tough decisions to make. We break down the biggest overlaps, which acts are playing more than once, and how those second sets might help us avoid sacrificing one band for another. We also discuss Punchlines and Backlines, the comedy shows taking place on multiple nights during festival week featuring comedians and familiar faces from the rock world. Between the bands, comedy, clinics, late-night activities, and everything else happening around the event, there's going to be a lot to keep up with. And we're not just coming to watch. Decibel Geek will be roaming The Mountain all weekend recording video and audio, talking with fans, capturing some man-on-the-street insanity, and gathering plenty of material to bring back to the show and our social channels. Whether you're joining us in Gatlinburg or following along from home, this episode is your preview of what promises to be a very busy weekend. Who are the must-see bands? Where are the toughest schedule conflicts? And exactly how much rock and roll can two aging podcasters cram into three days? We're about to find out. Decibel Geek Maps Out The Mountain — check it out and we'll see you in Gatlinburg! Decibel Geek is a proud member of the Pantheon Podcasts family. Contact Us!
