This is challenging confrontational humor, and social commentary in the guise of trolling. The show can at times be a little raunchy or juvenile just like Mad Magazine or National Lampoon. If you find yourself triggered, that's the point. Phil mocks everything and everyone. Some characters hold extreme views, this hyperbole is pointing the finger at racism, sexism, political hypocritical views on both sides.
Phil simultaneously plays characters who are at odds and having arguments, while also playing Phil Hendrie talk show host. Who usually tries to referee, or represent the more reasonable voice between two absurdly extreme or stupid characters voices/opinions. This is an old trick from the call in days. He often weaves current events into the story line.
Do not confuse jokes at the expense of racists as racist jokes. By portraying these caricatures he is calling out their presumed warped world views. This show can be uncomfortable, if you can not separate the portrayal of stupidity or evil from the actual thing, then this show is not for you, neither is network television. It will make your blood boil. This could be good medicine for anyone who has never been punched in the face for assuming their way is the way, and ignoring the reality of the thousands of diverse and opposing views.
Phil Hendrie is in the Radio Hall of Fame, for good reason. The goofy characters he plays have real feeling and development over the short and long term. Like the great Ernie Kovacs this show is silly, not stupid. Though it is far more crass. He is a talented tv/radio voice actor, improv and written comedian, as well as having something to say.
He now also plays archived shows from his call in radio days, which are hilarious. Character story lines evolve over days, weeks, months, and years. Like an addictive soap opera.
Do your self a favor and give this show a listen, have a laugh at yourself and the world. Look up Phil's youtube videos, his wiki, his website, get yourself the back stage pass "The best value on the internet other than...(no spoilers)".
