    Learning to Lament

    Taming the Tongue (Part 3)

    James has been taking us on a guided tour of what it looks like to live as a “Doer of the Word” (1:22). In Chapter 2, he showed us how doing the Word shapes how we see each other (without partiality) and serve each other (see a need, meet a need). Now in chapter 3, James introduces a lengthy section about how being a doer of the word impacts how we speak to each other. This week, James gives us the final two reasons why we must seek to tame our tongues. As he says in this text, “the tongue is a fire, the very world of iniquity.” This week, we begin to not only understand the truth of that statement, but we will also begin considering how to put that fire out!

This Sunday, we continue our study on “Taming the Tongue.” James offers different motivations for why this effort is so critically important in the Christian life. Join us as he continues to help us learn what it means to speak in line with Christ’s own speech!

Now in chapter 3, James introduces a lengthy section about how being a doer of the word impacts how we speak to each other. Join us this Sunday as we start a new section in the book of James. Being a Doer of the Word in 2026 means speaking words that are aligned with God’s Word. James 3 will teach us how to tame our tongues and speak as Jesus spoke.

    The (Untold) Christmas Story

    A Faith that Works

    In James’s book, Chapter 1 taught us about the importance of faith and the change that it produces in us. Having been given faith in Christ, now we are responsible to use that faith to work out our salvation as we become “Doers of the Word.” In the process, the works that we now do (being in the faith) prove the reality of faith’s power in our lives. Join us this week as we conclude our study of James 2! This week, we’ll see how true faith powerfully drives us to live out the reality of Christ within us. A faith that goes to work proves that faith really does work!
