The Love That Would Rather Die | Scott Neal

For many of us, we were taught that Jesus died because God needed a sacrifice. But what if that’s not the full story? What if Jesus didn’t die because God demanded blood… but because God is love? In Part 3 of Killing God, we wrestle with the real question behind the cross: Why did Jesus have to die? This message challenges the idea of an angry, distant God and reveals something far more powerful: 👉 A love that sees you fully 👉 A love that doesn’t wait for you to get it right 👉 A love that would rather die than give up on you Even when we rejected it… Even when we nailed it to a cross… Love stayed. If you’ve ever struggled to believe God actually loves you… this message is for you. The Gods We Invent | Scott Neal

For many of us, the picture of God we grew up with feels confusing. Loving one moment. Angry the next. But what if the God we imagined isn’t actually the God Jesus revealed? In this message, The Gods We Invent, we explore one of the most powerful stories in the Bible, the story of Abraham and Isaac, and how it points forward to the cross. For centuries people believed the gods demanded sacrifice. Blood. Payment. Appeasement. But what if the cross reveals something completely different? What if the cross is not humanity offering a sacrifice to God, but God offering Himself to humanity?\ In this message we discover: • Why Genesis 22 is more than a test • How the story of Abraham and Isaac foreshadows Jesus • Why the cross reframes everything we thought we knew about God • The difference between a God who demands sacrifice and a God who gives Himself The cross does not reveal an angry God demanding payment. It reveals a loving God giving Himself for the world. If you want to know what God is like, look at Jesus. Why Religion Feels Heavy | Scott Neal

Many people assume Christianity is about trying harder to behave better. But what if that idea is actually the problem? In this message from Part 5 of the Relief series, we examine a subtle but dangerous distortion of the gospel: moralism. It looks spiritual, sounds biblical, and even encourages good behavior. But underneath it all is a message that creates pressure instead of freedom. The Bible reveals a critical distinction between law and grace. The law exposes our problem but cannot fix it. The gospel does something entirely different. Instead of modifying behavior, it transforms the heart. We also explore the difference between the Old Covenant and the New Covenant, why the Ten Commandments are described as a “ministry of death,” and how the blood of Jesus establishes a completely new relationship with God. When law and grace are mixed together, people live under guilt, pressure, and confusion. But when the gospel is understood clearly, something changes. You realize that you are no longer trying to earn a place with God. You are a child who already belongs. And that truth brings relief.  _______________________________ Subscribe to our YouTube channel for the latest messages and content by clicking here: https://www.youtube.com/forestparkchurch?sub_confirmation=1 To support our ministry and help us continue to reach people in Elizabeth City, and around the world click here: http://www.forestparkchurch.com/give/ Our mission: Help people follow Jesus one step at a time. Faith That Fights | Scott Neal

Some weeks, “try harder” theology collapses around your feet. In Part 4 of our Relief series, we talk about the kind of faith that survives when life doesn’t make sense. What do you do when prayers aren’t answered? When doubts won’t disappear? When you feel angry, forgotten, or wounded? Faith is not certainty. Faith is not control. Faith is not pushing down questions. Faith is this: No matter what, I trust God. From Hebrews 11 to Matthew 17, and the powerful story of Jacob wrestling with God in Genesis, we discover something freeing: You don’t need more faith. You need the right kind of faith. And even a mustard-seed-sized trust can move mountains. If you’re wrestling right now, this message is for you. When Guilt Won't Let You Go | Scott Neal

Relief - Part 3 Guilt and shame have a way of following us everywhere. Even after we apologize, even after we try to move forward, the voice of failure can stay loud in our heads. In this message, we look at why guilt feels so heavy, how shame keeps us stuck, and how Jesus offers something deeper than self-improvement or trying harder. Through the story of Peter’s failure and restoration in John 21, we see that Jesus does not just forgive. He restores. He meets us in our worst moments and reminds us that failure does not get the final word. Grace does. If you feel like your past still defines you, or like you have blown too many chances to be used by God, this message is for you. You may have failed, but you are not finished. Relief is a series about finding freedom from the pressure we carry and discovering the rest Jesus actually offers. The Cost of Keeping Up - Scott Neal

Relief - Part 2 Feeling tired, behind, or like you can never quite keep up? You are not alone. So much of our pressure today does not come from God, it comes from comparison. From what we see online, from the pace of life, and from the constant feeling that everyone else is ahead. In this message from our series Relief, we talk about how comparison speeds up our lives, distorts how we see ourselves and others, and quietly robs us of peace. Jesus shows us a different way. In Luke 19, He slows down in the middle of a busy crowd to notice one overlooked person, Zacchaeus. That moment of being seen changes everything. This message invites you to consider what might happen if you stopped trying to keep up with the crowd and started walking at Jesus’ pace instead. If life feels overwhelming, rushed, or heavy right now, this message is for you. There is another way to live. Peace really is better than pressure. In this message: • Why comparison is exhausting • How the pace of your life shapes your soul • What Jesus models about slowing down and noticing people • A simple, practical next step you can take this week Subscribe to our YouTube channel for the latest messages and content by clicking here: https://www.youtube.com/forestparkchurch?sub_confirmation=1 To support our ministry and help us continue to reach people in Elizabeth City, and around the world click here: http://www.forestparkchurch.com/give/ Our mission: Help people follow Jesus one step at a time. When Faith Feels Like Pressure Instead of Peace | Scott Neal

If you feel exhausted by trying to be “good enough” for God, you’re not alone. Many people experience faith as just another system of pressure: do more, try harder, measure up. But Jesus never invited people into more burden. He invited them into rest. In the first part of our series "Relief," we look at how religion can quietly become a performance system and why Jesus consistently pushed back against that. From the Beatitudes to Jesus’ invitation to the weary and burdened, Scripture paints a picture of a God who relieves pressure instead of adding to it. This message is for: Anyone burned out by church Anyone who feels like they are never “enough” Anyone carrying guilt, spiritual pressure, or shame Anyone who wants to rediscover the real heart of Jesus Jesus did not come to give you another system to master. He came to give you rest. 📖 Key passages explored: Matthew 5, Matthew 11, Matthew 23, John 7 📍 Forest Park Church - Elizabeth City NC, 27909 Subscribe to our YouTube channel for the latest messages and content by clicking here: https://www.youtube.com/forestparkchurch?sub_confirmation=1 To support our ministry and help us continue to reach people in Elizabeth City, and around the world click here: http://www.fplive.org/give/ Our mission: Help people follow Jesus one step at a time.
