"I Ended Up Getting Nothing": Why Andy Kelly's Back with 'Perfect Organism: The Assembly Cut'

We’re joined on the AI and Games podcast by Andy Kelly, a former games journalist and now PR manager at Devolver Digital, who is largely famous for being that guy who bangs on about Alien: Isolation on social media more than we do! You might remember Andy as a voice in our Alien: Isolation retrospective on the AI and Games YouTube channel in 2025. Andy sits down with Tommy to talk about ‘Perfect Organism: The Assembly Cut’, a new version of his unofficial companion book about Creative Assembly’s horror game. There’s a lot of interesting stuff to talk about in this episode, including: * How Andy got screwed out of royalties from Unbound: the publisher of the original version of ‘Perfect Organism’ * How the conversation around Alien has changed since the original book launched in 2024. * What to expect in the updated edition published by Lost in Cult. * How the 10 year anniversary of the game provided more info for the book. * Andy and Tommy muse about the recently released Alien: Isolation 2 trailer. #002: Reaching the 'Next Level' with Mike Cook

We welcome our first guest to the AI and Games podcast: Dr Michael Cook is a senior lecturer at King’s College London and has over a decade’s experiences as a researcher in procedural content generation and generative design for video games. Earlier this year he published ‘Next Level’, a book designed to be an introductory text for people new to PCG in games, and provides a fun and accessible entry point for people who don’t have a background in computer science to understand what’s happening. Tommy sits down with Mike for a right good natter about the process of bringing ‘Next Level’ to life. From the challenges of introducing complex subject matter to a general audience, deciding on what topics to cover, and why you can’t talk about Dwarf Fortress without also bringing up Caves of Cud. Catch Tommy’s review of ‘Next Level’ on the AI and Games newsletter: https://www.aiandgames.com/p/next-level-a-warm-and-encouraging The AI and Games Podcast is presented by AWS for Games.
