The White Picket Rebellion Podcast

The Salty Marine

For regular people who followed the rules, got tired of being trapped, and decided to build a different life. We were told to work hard, buy the house, pay the bills, chase stability, and wait for retirement someday. But a lot of us woke up realizing the old life plan doesn’t work the way we were promised. This channel is about questioning the traditional American Dream without pretending we have everything figured out. We’ll talk about midlife burnout, job loss, age discrimination, money stress, downsizing, housing costs, semi-retirement, starting over, walking away from status, and building a more realistic Plan B. It’s honest conversation for people who are tired of living trapped by debt, jobs, expectations, and a version of success that no longer feels worth it. If you’re rethinking work, money, retirement, where you live, or what you actually want your life to look like — welcome to the rebellion.

I Stopped Playing By The Rules. The Were Never Written For Us

I fell asleep on the couch and woke up to a 12-year-old girl with a ukulele singing about not playing by the rules of the game. A rerun from 2016. I watched it live back then, clapped along with everybody else, and got up the next morning and followed every single rule she was singing about. For ten more years. This episode is the question that rerun wouldn't let go of. Who actually wrote the rules we've all been living by? Who do they serve? Why did we buy in when nobody ever asked us to agree to them? And what happens when a 51-year-old finally puts the rulebook down? Fair warning before the comments beat me to it: I called it American Idol in the episode. It was America's Got Talent. I taught school for 18 years and still got that one wrong. We move on. In this episode: The rules you can recite from memory even though nobody ever wrote them downThe one question that changes how you see every rule: who does this serve? The part nobody says out loud: the rules used to pay out, and the payout quietly left while the rules stayedThe hardest thing for me to admit on a microphone: I didn't just follow these rules. I taught them. In a classroom for 18 years, and in uniform before that. Why getting pushed out of the game might be the blessing in disguiseThe smaller version of all this for you, even if you're not selling everything like I amNext episode, I'm going to do the thing I didn't do here: read you my actual new rules. The short list I'm living by now. If there's a rule you've stopped following, or one you want to stop following, put it in the comments. I read every one, and they shape where this show goes.
