Unsolicited Permission: The Crown-Fixing Mom Podcast

Emily Liang

Unsolicited Permission: The Crown-Fixing Mom Podcast is the show for mothers over 35 who are done waiting, done shrinking, and ready to break the generational cycles that have kept them putting themselves last for generations. We talk about the hard stuff: the mom burnout nobody names, the mom guilt that won't quit, the identity you lost somewhere between diapers and carpool, the body that's been through everything and deserves to be celebrated instead of punished, and the community of women who fix each other's crowns instead of competing for them.FREE RESOURCES: 🧠 Take the free Mom Identity Quiz (13 questions, 5 minutes) → https://momstrong-quiz.base44.app  👑 Join the free MomStrong Crown Club on Facebook → https://facebook.com/groups/momstrongcrownclub  💌 Coffee with the Queen newsletter → https://lp.constantcontactpages.com/sl/JMH08xY/coffeequeen 📲 Instagram → https://instagram.com/be_healthy_be_you_trainer  🏋️ Coaching with Emily → https://getstarted.behealthybeyoufitness.com New episodes every Tuesday. Episode 15: Stop Watching Her Scoreboard | When Comparison Becomes a Measure of Your Worth

Have you ever looked at another woman's life and wondered, "What is she doing that I can't seem to figure out?" Her successful business. Her marriage. Her body. Her accomplishments. And suddenly, everything you've worked so hard for feels like it's not enough. But what if comparison isn't really about jealousy? What if it's about something deeper - the fear that you'll never be good enough? In this deeply personal episode of Unsolicited Permission, I'm opening up about my own struggles with comparison, body image, past abusive relationships, abandonment, and the pressure to make my late father proud. I'm also sharing what it's like to build a business dedicated to helping women rediscover their confidence while I'm still fighting to find my own. Because I don't coach women because I've mastered self-love. I coach women because I know what it feels like not to. In this episode, we're talking about: Why another woman's success isn't evidence of your failureHow past relationships and family expectations shape our self-worthThe pain of comparing yourself to the woman you used to beWhy comparison makes even meaningful progress feel insignificantThree practical ways to stop measuring your life against someone else's👑 THIS WEEK'S PERMISSION SLIP You have permission to stop checking someone else's progress, even if you're scared that letting go of comparison means letting yourself off the hook. Your challenge: Unfollow the scoreboard. Episode 14: Start From Here | When Your Old Plan No Longer Fits Your Life

What happens when you're ready to get your life back... but your body, your energy, and your circumstances aren't cooperating? I'm a certified personal trainer and health coach. And lately? I've been struggling to find the motivation to work out. Between ongoing health complications, difficult decisions about a potentially risky surgery, financial stress, motherhood, and trying to grow my business, I'm physically and emotionally exhausted. And I miss the woman I used to be. The woman who felt strong. Who loved being active. Who didn't have to wonder whether her body would cooperate. But here's what I'm learning: Maybe I don't need to get back to who I was. Maybe I need to learn how to take care of who I am right now. In Episode 14, I'm getting vulnerable about my ongoing battle with idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH), the uncertainty surrounding my treatment options, and what happens when motivation disappears under the weight of real-life stress. Because sometimes you're not lacking discipline. Sometimes your old plan simply doesn't fit the life you're living anymore. 👑 IN THIS EPISODE - Why losing motivation doesn't always mean losing discipline - The emotional toll of chronic health issues, uncertainty, and financial stress - What it's like to grieve the physical abilities and confidence you once had - The catch-up trap: why trying to make up for missed days can leave you even more overwhelmed - Why you don't owe anyone the days you missed - Three questions to ask when your old routine no longer works - The difference between lacking motivation and lacking capacity - Why rest, recovery, and asking for support are part of taking care of yourself 👑 THIS WEEK'S PERMISSION SLIP You have permission to build a plan for the woman you are today, even if you're still grieving what you used to be able to do. 💪 YOUR PERMISSION SLIP CHALLENGE Audit the plan. Don't automatically resume it. Take 5–15 minutes and ask yourself: 1. What actually changed? 2. What still fits? 3. What can I honestly carry right now? Then identify: - ONE thing you're keeping. - ONE thing you're adjusting. - ONE thing you're giving yourself permission to set down. Not because you're quitting. Because you're learning to work with the life you're actually living. 🎧 KEEP CONNECTING 👑 Join the FREE MomStrong Crown Club: https://facebook.com/groups/momstrongcrownclub 🧠 Take the FREE Mom Identity Quiz: https://momstrong-quiz.base44.app 💌 Join the Coffee with the Queen Newsletter:* https://lp.constantcontactpages.com/sl/JMH08xY/coffeequeen NEXT EPISODE We're talking about comparison and why it's so hard to move forward when you're constantly measuring yourself against other moms or the woman you used to be. Episode 13: Nobody Is Coming to Check | How Moms Keep Promises to Themselves

When Nobody’s Watching | Learning to Keep Promises to Yourself This episode was supposed to come out September 22. It’s October 5. And instead of pretending those two weeks didn’t happen, I want to tell you exactly where I’ve been. On September 21, I underwent an angiogram/venogram as part of my ongoing pseudotumor cerebri (IIH) workup, followed by a lumbar puncture and an IV iron infusion that didn’t exactly go according to plan. I came home sore, exhausted, and with a very tender femoral artery site. Then came the harder part: learning that I’m not a candidate for the stent we had hoped might be an option. The path we’re considering now comes with complications, risks, and some big decisions. And for the last two weeks, I’ve been tired, frustrated, upset, depressed, and trying to clear my head enough to figure out what comes next. The podcast didn’t happen. And nobody came to check. Which, ironically, is exactly what this episode was supposed to be about. Because keeping a promise to yourself doesn’t always mean doing the thing exactly when you said you would. Sometimes it means coming back when you can. In this episode, we’re talking about: • Why moms can be incredibly reliable for everyone else while treating their own needs like suggestions • The difference between accountability and self-trust • Why needing support is NOT a sign that you lack discipline • The quiet wins we rarely give ourselves credit for • Why rest, adjusting the plan, and returning all count • How to stop using missed days as evidence that you “never follow through” • Three practical ways to start rebuilding trust with yourself • Why a changed plan is not a broken promise And I’m sharing this one while I’m still in it. I don't have every answer about my health yet. I don't know exactly what comes next. But I do know this: September 22 — I couldn't do it. September 29 — I still wasn't ready. October 5 — I came back. Not perfection. Evidence. This week’s Permission Slip: 👑 You have permission to count the things nobody saw. Keep one quiet promise to yourself this week. Make it small enough to fit the life you're actually living. Then write it down and remind yourself: That counted. Because maybe self-trust isn't believing you'll never get knocked off course. Maybe it's knowing you can find your way back. 🎙️ Unsolicited Permission: The Crown-Fixing Mom Podcast Hosted by Emily Liang, founder of Be Healthy, Be You #MomStrong #MomsOver35 #SelfTrust #HealthyHabits #Consistency #Motherhood #WomensWellness #UnsolicitedPermission Support the show

Episode 11: Start Before You Feel Ready | You don't have to start over

Waiting for a better week to take care of yourself? One where nobody's sick, the schedule holds, and you finally feel ready? This one's for you. In this episode of Unsolicited Permission: The Crown-Fixing Mom Podcast, Emily Liang gets honest about getting sick, missing a week, and recording this episode before she felt ready. For moms over 35 stuck in survival mode, she breaks down why "I'll start when I feel ready" keeps us in the Start-Over Cycle, why readiness shows up after you start, and how to come back from a hard week without guilt, a penalty lap, or starting over from scratch. In this episode: Why waiting to feel ready is avoidance in a nicer outfitThe Start-Over Cycle, and the MomStrong Return that replaces itWhat your kids' first week of school can teach you about readinessHow to find the smallest honest version of a healthy habit when you're worn outThis week's Permission Slip ChallengeThe School-Year Rhythm Rebalance is a FREE 14-day challenge for moms, September 14–27, inside the MomStrong Crown Club. Episode 10: Discipline Isn't a Personality Type | How Overwhelmed Moms Build Consistency

"I'm just not a disciplined person." How many times have you said that after another week when the workout didn't happen, the water bottle stayed full, or the ten minutes you promised yourself disappeared? But look at everything you did do. You got the kids where they needed to go. You remembered the appointment. You met the deadline. You signed the thing, packed the thing, paid the thing, and handled the hundred other things somebody was counting on you to handle. Maybe you don't have a discipline problem. Maybe the problem is the setup. Everything you're consistent about has scaffolding underneath it: a schedule, a deadline, a reminder, a coach, a teacher, a boss, or somebody who notices when you don't show up. Meanwhile, the promises you make to yourself usually get... good intentions. Then when those good intentions don't survive a chaotic Tuesday, you make it mean something about who you are. In this episode of Unsolicited Permission, we're changing that. And I'm looking at my own history, too. I've always been the woman with the overloaded plate - sports, activities and leadership roles in high school; a double major, three jobs, dance, sorority and Panhellenic responsibilities in college. I thought I was just really good at doing a lot. But when I looked underneath it? There was structure everywhere. Practice. Rehearsals. Shifts. Meetings. Deadlines. People expecting me to show up. So maybe the answer isn't another lecture about becoming more disciplined. Maybe the promises you make to yourself deserve some scaffolding, too. In this episode: → Why “I have no discipline” may be the wrong diagnosis → How external structure has been supporting your consistency for years → Why good discipline reduces how often you have to rely on willpower → How decision fatigue makes your own needs easier to push aside → The three-part setup: a cue, a minimum, and a witness → How to stop diagnosing yourself and start diagnosing the setup → Why your minimum needs to survive your real life — not your ideal one → How Episode 9's “not right now” becomes the foundation for what you build next This week's Permission Slip: 👑 You have permission to stop making your inconsistency mean something about who you are. The Challenge: Build ONE bus. Choose one promise you keep breaking and give it: A cue - what already happens right before it? A minimum - what's the smallest version that still counts? A witness - who will know? Stop diagnosing yourself. Diagnose the setup. 🎧 Listen to the podcast: https://youtu.be/bOZsyo5UIRw 👑 Join the free MomStrong Crown Club: https://facebook.com/groups/momstrongcrownclub 🧠 Take the FREE Mom Identity Quiz: https://momstrong-quiz.base44.app 💌 Join the Coffee with the Queen Newsletter: https://lp.constantcontactpages.com/sl/JMH08xY/coffeequeen 👑 THE SCHOOL-YEAR RHYTHM REBALANCE We're starting September 14 inside the MomStrong Crown Club. 14 days. Episode 9: You Run This. Even When It's Tilted.

It's nine at night and you're doing the math. Who got what today? The kids. Work. The house. The appointments. The endless things that needed you. And somehow, there was nothing left for you. So you hand yourself the same verdict so many overwhelmed moms do: I have no balance. But what if you don't have a balance problem? What if you have a definition problem? In the final episode of August's take-your-life-back series, I'm throwing out the idea that balance means giving everything an equal piece of you. Because real life doesn't work that way. And I know that personally. I've always been the woman with a loaded plate. In high school, I stacked sports, activities, performances and leadership roles. In college, I double majored while working three jobs, dancing, and taking on sorority and Panhellenic responsibilities. My answer was always the same: I'll figure out how to carry it all. Until IIH forced me to admit that this time, I couldn't. For the first time, I had to put something down. Graduate school. Not because I stopped wanting my degree. Not because I gave up. Not because I couldn't handle it. I had to learn the difference between “I quit” and “not right now.” I need to take care of my health. Fix my head. And then I'll be back. And maybe that's what real balance sometimes looks like. Not proving you can carry everything. Knowing what needs you right now, protecting enough of yourself that you don't disappear in the process, and giving yourself permission to let something else wait. In this episode: → Why work-life balance is a two-sided scale for a twelve-sided life → Why intentional doesn't mean you chose what happened → The lesson IIH taught me about finally putting something down → Why “not right now” does NOT mean giving up → The small “floor” that keeps you from disappearing during a lopsided season → How to decide what needs you now — and what can wait This week's Permission Slip: 👑 You have permission to let your life tilt without calling yourself a failure. The Challenge: Finish these three sentences: Right now, this season is tilted toward ______. The thing I'm protecting while it's tilted is ______. The thing I'm giving myself permission to say “not right now” to is ______. 🎧 Listen to the podcast: https://www.youtube.com/@Unsolicited-Permission-Podcast 👑 Join the free MomStrong Crown Club: https://facebook.com/groups/momstrongcrownclub 🧠 Take the FREE Mom Identity Quiz: https://momstrong-quiz.base44.app 💌 Join the Coffee with the Queen Newsletter: https://lp.constantcontactpages.com/sl/JMH08xY/coffeequeen August was about taking your life back. Episode 8: Back to School, Not Back to Survival Mode

You don't have to control the chaos. You just have to hold your corner. The kids got a fresh start. The school got a fresh start. Nobody handed one to you. And every year, back-to-school season has a way of doing the same thing: the calendar fills up... and mom disappears. In this episode, Emily names the September Slide — the way overwhelmed moms slowly lose their routines, health goals, quiet time, and connection to themselves when the school year gets loud. But this year, we're doing it differently. You do not have to control the whole storm. You just have to decide what part of your life the storm does not get to take. Emily shares what this season actually looks like in her own home — competitive gymnastics, t-ball, homework, therapies, activities, business, school, health appointments, and everything in between — and why she's stopped waiting for a calm week to finally take care of herself. Because there is no calm week coming to save us. There is only the decision to keep one part of the season with your name on it. In this episode: → Why the school-year routine often pushes moms back into survival mode → The “September Slide” — and why it is not a discipline problem → Why you cannot keep solving an overloaded system by deleting yourself from it → How to choose one school-year anchor that can survive a hard day → Why “if it only works on a good day, it’s not a corner — it’s a wish” → How to create a backup plan before the schedule gets chaotic → What it looks like to hold your corner without needing the whole day to go right THIS WEEK’S PERMISSION SLIP: You have permission to keep one corner of this season for yourself — and protect it like it matters. Because it does. THE CHALLENGE: Choose one school-year anchor that keeps you connected to yourself. Then choose its backup spot for the days when life inevitably interrupts it.
