Why you lose your peace to others: And how to get it back

I answer messages quickly. Not out of politeness, but because it feels like the thing that wants to be done, and somewhere along the way I started expecting the same in return. So when I write to a friend and see that the message has been read, and then a day goes by with nothing coming back, something starts up in me that has very little to do with the friend. He is ignoring me. He wants to punish me. Nothing has actually happened out there, and in here I have already produced a whole Netflix series, with a murderer, a villain and a victim. The victim, of course, is me. And that is exactly what this episode is about. What we see in other people is not a fact, it is our own state of mind reflected back at us. The person who did not answer is usually just making dinner, entirely innocent, and the only place my peace can come back from is the place where I lost it. In this episode I talk about what to do with that. It is not about arguing better or explaining your hurt more clearly. It is about handing the whole story over, which is what forgiveness actually means. I give it away, and from there the situation can be corrected by something wiser than my own thinking. This episode is for you if you· replay conversations in your head long after they ended· read silence as rejection· would rather be right than be at peace· notice how much power other people have over your mood· want something to do the next time it happens Afterwards you will notice the moment the film starts running, and you will have a choice about whether to watch it. Be grateful to everyone who does not answer you the way you wanted. It is a chance to get free of the ego thought system, and those chances come around more often than we would like.
