Cowboy Boots & the Stories We Wear with Heritage Boot Company Co-Owner Kimber Breaux

This interview with guest Kimber Breaux feels like one part interview and another part "Audible Original.” It’s not an Audible production, but it is as original as your favorite pair of blue jeans and it’s alive with stories. Kimber Breaux is co-owner of Heritage Boot Co. in Austin, Texas, and she shares her lifelong love of cowboy boots, her journey from Texas’s Golden Triangle to Los Angeles, California, and full circle to Austin, Texas. You’ll learn how boots tell a story and how wearing them can make you feel. Maybe you’ll sense the majesty of mustangs and the vastness of the evening sky as we circle from songwriting and inspiring kids through music to exploring adoption, addiction, sobriety, parents, storytelling, love, loss, grief, connection, inspiration, confidence and believing in yourself. Wait until you hear Kimber’s story of a kindness received from country great Wynonna Judd. And you know the final question of every episode. Will Kimber sing us out? Well, you’ll have to come find out for yourself. I hope you do. I think you’re going to love this one. 5X Paralympian Pours Into the Next Gen Learning to FLY with Matt Scott

Matt Scott is a five-time Paralympic wheelchair basketball player, two-time Paralympic gold medalist and the founder of the global social impact organization Fly Without Limits. At its core, the foundation is about investing in future generations and, in Matt's words, providing "disability empowerment, full stop." Matt is currently planning a 10-year reunion with his 2016 Paralympic gold medal-winning wheelchair basketball team and staff while continuing to grow the work he began three years ago through Fly Without Limits. In our conversation, Matt shares the story of his first basketball and his first sport-specific wheelchair—and how that single gift, given as an act of kindness, changed the course of his life. Born with spina bifida, he traces his journey from pickup games on outdoor courts in Detroit, to a traveling team, to making his Paralympic debut in 2004. We also discuss the urgent need for improvements in air travel for people with physical disabilities—from accessible storage space for wheelchairs to the indignities many still face when using airplane lavatories. Above all, our conversation is about the power of community, the courage to live your truth, and how simple acts of kindness can help someone discover then shine their full brilliant light. Plus, books, podcasts, learning, and as with all guests, I ask Matt if he'll sing us out. Will he? A 109 Year Old Family Restaurant Business Run on Authentic Hospitality with Grace Keros

Grace Keros is the third-generation owner of American Coney Island in the heart of Detroit, Michigan. She learned about hospitality and the importance of community by watching her grandfather and father before her.   In our conversation, Grace talks about what it means to have a family-run business, to be located in the center of the city, how generations of Detroit-area families have woven American Coney Island into their holiday traditions, and how the famous corner has witnessed the city's growth, change and resilience. She reflects on the importance of family, treating people with kindness, and how she and her employees continue the tradition of bringing people together through food, community, nostalgia, comfort and love. Grace also shares her early influences in life and in the restaurant business, the importance of humor and laughter as a way to connect, the role sports played in her upbringing, and the transformative impact of a beloved basketball coach. We talk about working hard and playing hard as ingredients for a healthy life, how a proper coney dog should—and should not—be served, signs from loved ones who have passed, the speakeasy chapter of the restaurant and the small but meaningful ways to show employees and every customer that they matter. Grace's energy is contagious. By the end of our conversation, you can't help but feel her joy for life—and her deep love for the city, the people and the traditions she serves every day. Plus kindness, reading, music and singing. I ask her to sing at the end. Will she? Follow @americanconeyisland on Instagram. Order your coney kit here.
