A Cancer Diagnosis, a Golf Course and the Words He Needed to Hear

After being diagnosed with prostate cancer, Chris Johnson began feeling guilty because so many things were going his way. He wondered what he had done to deserve the blessings he was receiving. During a round of golf, his friend Mike gave him the reminder he needed: grace isn’t earned, and the voice saying he was unworthy wasn’t from God. In this episode of Bogeys and Blessings, Chris shares how prayer, friendship and surrender helped him move from fear to peace. He also explains why his first prayer wasn’t simply for healing—it was for guidance. His story reminds us that we don’t always need to fix people walking through difficult seasons. Sometimes we simply need to listen, pray and be present. “Two are better than one… If either of them falls down, one can help the other up.” — Ecclesiastes 4:9–10

Cody Kelley | Golf, Grace and The Road Back to God through Golf

Cody Kelley grew up with a Bible in one hand and a golf club in the other—then walked away from both. College partying led to DUIs, isolation and years in the music business. When Cody unexpectedly lost what he believed was his dream job, the calls stopped and his future disappeared overnight. That loss became the beginning of his road home. In this episode of Bogeys and Blessings, Cody shares how he reopened his Bible, returned to golf through a $10-an-hour cart job and followed a series of small moments that eventually led him to teaching and mentoring young golfers. His story reminds us that no matter how far we wander, God is never waiting to condemn us. He is waiting to welcome us home. “When he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him.” — Luke 15:20

Friendship, Failure and Finding Grace | Chris Putnam

A round of golf started their friendship. Business, pride and shame nearly ended it. In this episode of Bogeys and Blessings, Justin Whaley and Chris Putnam look back on a friendship spanning nearly 20 years. They talk honestly about the opportunity that brought them closer, the decisions and circumstances that created distance and the grace that allowed them to begin again. Chris also shares how apologizing for an ugly golf match brought healing years later—and how missing a four-foot putt showed him that God had changed the way he responds to losing. Sometimes our biggest bogeys become blessings. We just may not recognize them until much later. “Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin.” — Zechariah 4:10 What small moment in your life might matter more than you think?
