How to Stop Feeling Stuck and Start Coming Back to Yourself with the C.A.L.M. Method

What if the thing standing between you and coming home to yourself isn't a system, or more time, or money? What if it's permission? In the finale of the Coming Home series, Shari brings together everything the series has been building toward: the C.A.L.M. Method, Clarity, Awareness, Learning, Mindset, told through the real story of a woman who found her way back to herself, one step at a time. Key Takeaways The C.A.L.M. Method is the framework at the center of everything Shari teaches: Clarity, Awareness, Learning, Mindset, and each stage opens the next. Clarity means getting honest about who you are right now and what matters in this season, not who you were ten years ago, and not who everyone else needs you to be. Awareness surfaces the beliefs that have been quietly running your choices, often for decades, so you can finally question them instead of living inside them. Learning is building rhythms that fit your real life, not rigid routines that collapse by week three. Sometimes the smallest steps, a nap, an afternoon with a book, are the most significant ones. Mindset is the quiet, steady practice of choosing a belief that supports who you’re becoming rather than the one that’s kept you where you’ve been. No one hands you permission. You give it to yourself, and that’s the real work underneath all four stages. The Seeker: If You've Spent Years Taking Care of Everyone Else

What do you enjoy? Just for yourself, not for anyone else. Could you answer? In this episode, Shari talks to the Seeker, the woman who has spent years showing up for everyone else and somewhere along the way lost the thread back to herself. She explains why this isn't a midlife crisis, it's a call, and offers one small step to start hearing your own voice again. Key Takeaways The Seeker is the woman who has spent years showing up for everyone else, and somewhere along the way, lost the thread back to herself, not all at once, but one small accommodation at a time. If someone asked what you enjoy, just for yourself, and you couldn't answer, that's not brokenness. It's a sign your own preferences went quiet, not that they disappeared. What gets called a midlife crisis is often something else entirely: a call. Your own life calling you back to yourself. Midlife naturally creates space as roles loosen, kids grow more independent, careers shift, and in that space, the question "who am I when it's just me?" surfaces. That's not a sign something's wrong. It's a sign something is waking up. You don't need permission to have preferences, to take up space with your own interests, or to say something matters to you without checking if it's convenient for everyone else. You already have it. One small step: write down one thing that used to light you up, not something you should enjoy, something that actually did, and ask yourself honestly, does it still? The Reclaimer: Why What Worked Before Doesn't Work Anymore

Same diet. Same workout. Same way of pushing through when your energy dipped, because it always worked before. And then, quietly, it stopped. In this episode, Shari talks to the Reclaimer, the woman whose body has been changing in ways nobody explained, and who's been pushing harder when what she actually needs is to listen differently. She breaks down what's really happening hormonally, why pushing harder often backfires, and one small way to start listening to your body again. Key Takeaways The body you had at 35 and the body you have now are not the same body, hormonally or biologically. That's not a judgment, it's fact. Estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone all shift in midlife, and they influence far more than reproduction: fat storage, muscle, blood sugar, stress response, and sleep. Pushing harder often makes things worse. More intensity or restriction on an already-stressed nervous system raises cortisol, disrupts sleep, and causes the body to hold on rather than let go. What works in this season usually looks like less, not more: gentler, more rest, more consistency, less intensity, nearly the opposite of what most of us were taught. The strategies that worked in your 30s were built for a different hormonal baseline, like using a map drawn ten years ago. The map isn't wrong, the terrain changed. Listening to your body means treating its signals, energy, sleep, mood, digestion, as data instead of obstacles to push through. The Giver: Why You Keep Putting Yourself Last

You said yes again. Not because you wanted to, not because you had time, but because someone asked and your hand went up before your brain could weigh in. In this episode, Shari names the Helium Hand, the pattern of automatic yes-saying that keeps midlife women putting themselves last, and the quiet belief running underneath it. Plus one small thing worth trying this week. Key Takeaways The Helium Hand is when saying yes has become so automatic that it happens before you’re even aware of it. It’s not weakness and it’s not simple people-pleasing. It’s a pattern built one yes at a time. Underneath the automatic yes, there is almost always a quiet belief running in the background: my needs can wait, it would be selfish to say no, or the quietest one of all, everyone else’s needs are real and mine are optional. Beliefs like these don’t announce themselves. They just quietly shape every decision, every yes, every time you put yourself at the bottom of the list without noticing you’ve done it again. There is a difference between saying yes because you want to and saying yes because it’s what you do. A choice has a moment of pause in it. Most women living with the Helium Hand haven’t had that pause in a long time. The shift is not about learning to say no. It’s about learning to pause long enough to actually decide. One breath before one yes is where it starts. Coming home to yourself doesn’t start with a dramatic overhaul. It starts with noticing that you have a choice at all. Good Menopause News Got Buried Last Week

In the span of three days, menopause went to Washington, D.C. Health and Human Services met with physicians about the estrogen patch shortage. The Senate held its first-ever congressional hearing on menopause. And the FDA convened a panel of medical experts. In this special episode, Shari breaks down what actually happened, why a Republican senator and a Democratic senator standing together on this issue matters, and what you can do right now, no matter which state you live in. Key Takeaways In one week, three federal agencies addressed menopause: HHS met with physicians and manufacturers about the estrogen patch shortage, the Senate held its first-ever congressional hearing on menopause, and the FDA convened a panel on testosterone therapy for women. The Senate hearing was led by Chairman Rick Scott (R-FL) and Ranking Member Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), titled "Half the Country, Zero Hearings." A bipartisan request was also made to the Government Accountability Office to investigate how menopause research and care are funded. 80% of OB-GYN residents say they feel unprepared to talk about menopause, and fewer than a third of residency programs teach it. That gap in training, not a personal failing, is why so many women leave appointments with more questions than answers. This is a workforce issue as much as a health issue: nearly 90% of women say menopause symptoms affect their work, and 1 in 3 has considered leaving or already left the workforce because of it. States are already moving. Rhode Island, Maryland, Washington, and California have all passed or introduced menopause-related workplace and healthcare legislation, and a federal bill is in both the House and Senate. None of this happened on its own. It happened because women kept talking. Staying in the conversation, sharing what you learn, and contacting your state legislators are all real, practical next steps. Who Is On Your Wellness Bus?

You've been figuring it out on your own. Googling symptoms. Researching when the labs came back confusing. Picking yourself back up when a new routine fell apart. You're good at managing things. What you might not have noticed is how tired you are of it. In this episode, Shari introduces the Wellness Bus — a framework for thinking about who belongs on your support team in midlife and names the one seat women say they need most. Key Takeaways Most midlife women have been managing their health alone for years not because they chose to, but because they assumed that’s how it was supposed to work. You are the driver of your wellness bus, not a passenger. You decide the direction. The people on your bus help you get there. Who belongs on the bus depends on your season: a doctor who actually listens, a health coach, a therapist, nutritionist, physical therapist, spiritual guide, massage therapist, or anyone who moves with you, prays with you, or holds you accountable. A health and wellness coach sits in the gap between your doctor’s visit and real life, between what you know and what you can actually do consistently in your specific life. Think of a health coach as the bus monitor: asking questions along the way, helping you figure out which road to take. The most-requested seat on the bus is accountability. Not cheerleading. Someone who knows what you said you were going to do and genuinely cares whether you did it. Sometimes someone needs to get off the bus. People want to change. What gets in the way is not having the right people around them. When women have the right support, they do things they genuinely believed were no longer possible. What midlife women need most is to feel seen, supported, and not alone in it. What a Health Coach Actually Does

You've read the books. Listened to the podcasts. Done the research. You know what a good night of sleep is supposed to look like, what stress is doing to your body, what your plate is supposed to contain. And still, nothing is sticking. In this episode, Shari names the gap between knowing and doing, explains what a National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach actually does in plain language, and offers a question worth sitting with this week. Key Takeaways Knowing what to do and being able to actually do it consistently in a real life are two completely different things. Information doesn't cross that gap. Support does. A health coach is not a doctor, therapist, or dietitian. A National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach is trained to the highest standard in the profession and recognized by the healthcare industry as a legitimate allied health role. A health coach sits in the gap between what your doctor tells you needs to change and what actually happens when you try to change it in your specific life. Health coaching works with behavior change from your starting point, using your own strengths, insight, and pace. It also works with the beliefs underneath the behavior, because sometimes what looks like a habit problem is actually a belief problem. The barrier to change is almost never what it looks like from the outside. Having someone who can see where you're actually getting stuck, and help you move through it rather than around it, is what makes the difference. Not all health coaches are also trained in life coaching. By looking for a coach trained in both health and wellness coaching and life coaching it helps you with the full picture of your life Resources ⭐️ Explore Shari's coaching and programs: https://www.sharibiery.com/midlife-coaching-programs ⭐️Find a National Board Certified Health Coach (NBHWC directory): https://members.nbhwc.org/search/custom.asp?id=6956 📗 Read It's Your Turn: https://www.sharibiery.com/its-your-turn-book 🌐 Website: https://www.sharibiery.com 📖 Join Shari on Substack: https://sharibiery.substack.com/p/start-here About Your Host, Shari Biery National Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach, author of It’s Your Turn, speaker, and creator of the C.A.L.M. Something Feels Off in Midlife & Here's Where to Start

Something has been quietly asking for your attention. Not a crisis. Not a dramatic shift. Just a low hum underneath everything that you haven't had a name for yet. In this episode, Shari opens the Coming Home series, a seven-part conversation about what it actually looks like to find your way back to yourself in midlife. She names the three ways that feeling tends to show up for women, and offers one small place to start. Key Takeaways What you're feeling isn't weakness or a flaw. It's a signal worth paying attention to. The feeling of being "off" in midlife tends to show up in one of three ways: bone-level exhaustion from giving too much for too long, disconnection from a body that's changing without explanation, or a quiet identity question underneath everything. You don't need a solution yet. Getting a name for what you're carrying is the first step, and it's more powerful than most people expect. The Coming Home series is seven episodes on coming back to yourself in midlife. Each episode stands on its own, so wherever you're starting, you're in the right place. Naming where you are doesn't require a fix or a plan. It requires honesty about what you've actually been carrying.
