Imbue Barrel Aged done Old Fashioned

Got something to say to this podcast? Send a voicemail, and you might hear yourself on the next episode! From the outer suburbs of Melbourne, we explored two of Imbue Distillery’s finest – the Suburban and the Barrel Aged. In this episode we are back with part 2 - Barrel Aged. Check out part 1 episode - Suburban gin already released! We are again joined by Pepper to taste, and review Imbue Distillery’s Barrel Aged Gin from Melbourne, Victoria. For this tasting we took a slightly different road. We tasted the gin neat, on ice and then with a cocktail! Imbue Distillery is run by Mel and Mick Sheard. Amanda has been a long time fan of the Imbue gins, and made friends with Mel through a love of bright fashion accessories (through Ruby Olive). Mel also supported Frocktober fundraising efforts of the Dame Frockstars with a signature gin cocktail. CORRECTION – on the Barrel Aged, the barrel used to infuse the gin in is APERA (like a sherry barrel). Oops. Thanks Mel for the correction. Gin featured: Barrel aged in Apera (not Aperol) cask – made into an Old FashionedHere is the cocktail recipe for the drink we made in this part 2 pod Old Fashioned (Gin) 60ml Barrel Aged Gin (like Imbue Suburban Barrel Aged) to mimic the notes of traditional whiskey, but dry London gin gives a brighter, herbal finish. 10 – 15 ml Maple syrup (choose pure, dark maple syrup for a deeper, more robust caramel flavour) 2 – 3 dashes of Angostura bitters (for this cocktail we used Orange bitters) Garnish – a thick strip of orange peel (but don’t try to BBQ it like Gerry did to ours!) Combine the gin, maple syrup and bitters to a mixing glass. Add ice to the glass and stir continuously for about 20 – 30 seconds to properly chill and dilute the cocktail. Strain the mixture into a rocks glass over a single large ice cube block. Add your garnish – gently squeeze (express) it over the drink to release the oils and toss it in to decorate! A Spirited Recollection of a Pickle Gin

Got something to say to this podcast? Send a voicemail, and you might hear yourself on the next episode! We are back with another Garden St Gin tasting box delight and having a second taste of the Bombak Pickle gin – because one taste wasn’t enough. We are also joined by a new friend and neighbour for the Bombak Pickle gin – Pepper! It turns out Gerry isn’t the only pickle appreciating neighbour in this hood. Pepper was surprised to find a worthy challenger for her favourite Green Ant Gin. In this episode, we are tasting two different gins. We explore them the Juniper and Garnish way; tasting the gin neat, then with a big ball of ice. For the Garden St Gin as a final spin, we do the recommended and provided tonic and garnish. For the Bombak gin we've made up our own G&T. Gins featured: · Recollection Spirit’s Apple and Honey gin is a delight to the senses. It features apple and honey on the nose, juniper and citrus and a subtle cardamom spice. It has a dry, warming finish. Check out their website for more cocktail recipes and food pairings. They approach their gin making and bottling in a sustainable way, and the gin reflects good and memorable moments for the makers. It is locally produced in Melbourne using local Victorian honey. · Bombak Pickle gin: uses Western Australian grown pickles, fresh dill, cucumbers and coriander seed to create a unique gin for pickle and non-pickle lovers. Bombak Distillery is a family-owned & run distillery located in Osborne Park, Western Australia. Their location is traced back to our immigrant Croatian Great Grandfather who set up market gardens on the land in 1946. The land was worked by three generations including their father and is again being used by the fourth generation to handcraft spirits.
