    Gathering What You Already Have

In this episode of The Advocate You Didn’t Know You Could Be, Anne King moves on from building a timeline to the next important step: gathering what you already have. When something stressful lands in your life, it is easy to think you need to find every letter, every email, every screenshot and every missing detail straight away. Anne explains that you do not need to gather everything at once. You start with what is already within reach. This episode is about collecting information, not fighting a case. It is about understanding what you can show, what you cannot show, what is missing, what needs checking and what does not line up. Anne also explains why simple everyday habits can help protect you going forward. Communicating in writing, keeping notes after phone calls, saving screenshots, using receipts where useful, and keeping everything in one place can all help create a clear paper trail. Evidence does not need to sound formal or legal. It can be a letter, email, text, screenshot, payment confirmation, call log, bank transaction, note, photo or online message. If it helps show what happened, what did not happen, what was said or what was received, it matters. Using her own experience, Anne shows how the information they already had helped them begin to understand the situation, including the letter before claim, proof of payment, bank statement, credit report and notes from the day the CCJ was discovered. The key message of this episode is that gathering is grounding. You are not trying to solve everything at once. You are creating something you can see, hold, understand and build from. Building Your Timeline

In this episode of The Advocate You Didn’t Know You Could Be, Anne King focuses on one of the most important parts of advocacy: building a timeline. When something stressful happens, it can be hard to remember what came first, what was received, what was missing and what changed along the way. Everything can feel tangled, especially when fear, confusion or pressure take over. Anne explains why a timeline is more than a list of dates. It becomes the anchor for the whole situation. It helps you see what happened, when it happened, what action was taken, what was not received and where the gaps or contradictions may be. This episode shows that a timeline does not need to be perfect, polished or complete. You start with what you know. One date, one memory, one letter, one screenshot or one moment is enough to begin. From there, the shape of the situation starts to appear. Anne also explains why missing information matters. No earlier letters, no reminders, no follow-up or no explanation can all become important parts of the picture. These are not accusations. They are points that may later become clear, reasonable questions. Using her own experience, Anne shows how a simple timeline helped make sense of what had happened, what was missing and what needed to be asked next. The key message of this episode is that clarity starts with structure. Once you have a timeline, you stop drowning in detail and begin to see the situation more clearly, one step at a time. Now That You're Ready

In this episode of The Advocate You Didn’t Know You Could Be, Anne King moves from the first pause into the next stage of advocacy: understanding the process. Once the initial panic begins to settle, the situation can start to feel less impossible. Anne explains that most claims, complaints, disputes or unexpected problems follow a simple pattern underneath the fear and confusion. You do not need to understand legal jargon or complicated systems. You need a clear way to break the situation down. This episode introduces the core principle of advocacy: separate the emotion from the information. Fear, shame, anger, confusion and panic are all natural responses, but they are not evidence. They tell you how you feel, not what has happened or what needs to happen next. Anne then explains the four pillars of advocacy: what happened, what you know, what you do not know yet, and what you need to ask. These pillars can be used in many situations, from parking charges and benefits decisions to school issues, workplace problems, housing disputes, medical concerns and complaints. Using the experience that led her to write the book, Anne shows how the four pillars helped make sense of a parking charge issue that later became a county court judgment. Instead of guessing, panicking or arguing, the process became clearer: build the timeline, gather the evidence, identify the gaps and ask the right questions. The message of this episode is simple: advocacy is not fighting. It is understanding what is in front of you, asking clear questions and taking back control one step at a time.
