The Dojo Exchange

James Moore

The Dojo Exchange is where martial artists from every style, every background, and every corner of the world come together to share their stories, experiences, and wisdom. Whether your journey began in Taekwondo, Karate, Judo, Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, Boxing, Wrestling, Kung Fu, HEMA, Filipino Martial Arts, Krav Maga, or any other discipline, every path offers lessons worth preserving and every martial artist has something to teach. Our mission isn't to decide which style is best, it's to learn from one another. Through conversations, we explore the people behind the martial arts: their journeys, challenges, philosophies, successes, failures, and the lessons that shaped them both on and off the mat. The Dojo Exchange is built on the belief that martial arts grow stronger when knowledge is shared freely. By bringing together instructors, competitors, historians, coaches, authors, and lifelong students, we create a place where traditions are preserved, ideas are exchanged, and different perspectives are welcomed with respect. Some episodes dive into history and tradition. Others explore competition, coaching, self-defense, leadership, personal growth, or the future of martial arts. Difficult topics aren't avoided, but they're approached through respectful conversation rather than confrontation, because growth begins with understanding. Whether you're a white belt taking your first class or a master with decades of experience, there's always something new to learn from someone else's journey. Different styles. Shared wisdom. Stronger together. One conversation. One lesson. One exchange at a time.

Beyond the Fist: Chris Rockhold & Korean Swordsmanship

In this episode of The Dojo Exchange, we sit down with Chris Rockhold for a conversation that goes beyond traditional striking and explores the deeper side of martial arts. Chris shares his journey through the martial arts, his experience in Korean martial arts and sword forms, and what drew him to the study of Korean swordsmanship. We talk about training, discipline, tradition, the mindset behind the martial artist, and the importance of preserving the knowledge passed down through generations. What does the sword teach us that the empty hand sometimes can't? How does weapons training change the way you approach martial arts? And what can studying another martial tradition teach us about our own?
