Welcome to The Other Ireland. This is not just a podcast. It is an independent project building an audio archive of Irish stories, memories and traditions. Here, I record and share the folklore, local legends, customs and traditions, superstitions, supernatural encounters and everyday memories that have been passed down through generations. Some stories are strange. Some are supernatural. Others are simply memories of how people lived, what they believed, and the traditions they inherited. The aim is simple: to record these voices and stories before they are lost. I work on The Other Ireland independently and voluntarily in my spare time, with the long-term aim of recording stories and memories from communities and people across Ireland. Episode 7: The Púca, Dracula & Stories We Inherit

In Episode 7 of The Other Ireland I am joined by Irish artist and storyteller Steve Lally, whose passion for Irish folklore and the old storytelling traditions really comes through in our conversation. What originally began as a discussion about the Púca, Ireland's shapeshifting trickster's, soon turned into something much broader. It was a fascinating conversation, and a reminder that when you sit down with a storyteller, you never quite know where the stories will take you. Episode 6: A Group Recording at McAuley Place

Episode 6 of The Other Ireland marks the first time I have gone out to record a group sharing their memories. McAuley Place is a residence for older people based in Naas, County Kildare. It is made up of 53 apartments. This episode is the result of going up there and not knowing what to expect. It was just me and my handy recorder. To be a part of this group discussion was really something special. Episode 4 : Bridget Cleary - The Woman Behind the Folklore

In March 1895, Bridget Cleary was killed in her home in Ballyvadlea, County Tipperary, in a case that would become forever linked with Irish folklore and belief in changelings. In this episode of The Other Ireland, we look beyond the story that became known around the world as the “burning of Bridget Cleary” to the woman at its centre. Featuring filmmaker Anne Williamson, we explore Bridget’s life, the beliefs surrounding her death, what happened inside that cottage, and the lasting impact of her story more than 130 years later. Episode 1 : What my Mother's side can Recall

Welcome to the very first episode of The Other Ireland. Every family has stories, and this is where mine begins. In this opening episode, I explain how The Other Ireland came to life and why I wanted to create a podcast dedicated to preserving Ireland's folklore, supernatural tales and family traditions before they're lost. The episode all started with a conversation with my parents about the stories they remembered growing up. After my Mam sent me a voice note recalling some of the tales she had heard, I realised there was something special worth preserving. That inspired me to ask my Mam's side of the family to share the stories they remembered, and together those conversations became this first episode.
