The bloody road you take for granted

The Bloody Road You Take for Granted The right to vote was not freely handed to us, it was fought for, marched for, bled for, and in some cases, died for. Recorded on the 61st anniversary of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, this episode of Our Cause takes a powerful look at the long and often bloody road that made the ballot accessible to millions of Black Americans. From the courageous footsteps of those who marched across the Edmund Pettus Bridge to the passage of landmark voting rights legislation, we confront a difficult question: Have we begun taking for granted what others sacrificed so much for us to have? Brother Karl Nichols and Brother Anthony Eaton are joined by special guest Corey Boyd, Chief Equity Officer for the State of Minnesota, for a timely conversation about the Voting Rights Act, the struggle that produced it, the state of voting rights today, and why understanding this history matters for the generations that follow. The blood was real. The sacrifice was real. The road was long. And every time we exercise our right to vote, we walk on a road somebody else helped pave. 🎙️ Our Cause — where social action meets conversation, history meets the present, and our cause becomes our responsibility.
